- Papa Scorch is one the most popular and fun Titans to use in Titanfall 2, but it comes at a price. Scorch can lock down path ways, do damage to multiple Titans, and he uses FIRE. On the other hand, his thermite launcher is weak, he's know for taking a lot of damage, and he's a slow, bulky Titan.
In this video Ill show you how to best use scorch in Frontier Defense, Show you the best Titan kits to use, and all the upgrades you get to look forward to.

Personally, I feel that scorch's extra shots function fine, like the memestiff and the saltball. What I really wish is that scorch could have legion's aegis upgrade that gives him all of his kits at once.

Yeah, but it would be lots of fun! I suppose I'm really wishing for crazy party game modes where you can do stupid things like that, but I doubt we'll get them before Respawn stops supporting tf2.
I whish that too. the final aegis upgrade for scorch feels a bit lackluster IMHO. but maybe I'll change my mind once I get ahold of it. but he'd probably be REALLY op with dreadnought.

Better ingredients, better pizza, papa scorch
Here are my tips as someone who maxxed out Scorch
1- Be aggressive when possible. Yeah, Scorch can get overwhelmed easily, but during the beginning and ends of a wave, where there are only 2 or 3 titans, go in and shred them as fast as possible. Odds are that as long as you aren't doomed, 2 or 3 titans will be easy for you.
2- Camp titan spawning grounds. The best strat is to throw down a trap and shoot either a firewall or a thermal shot at it the instant the shield is going down. This works WAY better when you memoruze when titan shields go down, that way they'll instantly get vaporized by incendiary damage (and possibly instantly destroyed).
3- Stick to lane control. There's a reason the bridge troll guards bridges, and it's the same as to why good Scorch players stay in closed off lane areas: you cannot go around them when in that narrow space. This makes maximizing damage with the Scorch's kit much easier, to the point that you'll be making titans disappear in seconds upon walking into your sights.
4- Don't use Tempered Plating. If taking your own incediary damage is such a big issue with you, either play another, more mobile Titan, or stop moving forward when using your abilities. Let's say you dropped a trap on top of yourself and NEED to ignite it ASAP. Taking a little bit of self damage is okay as long as you don't abuse it.
5- SPAM. THE. CORE. As you saw, Scorch is capable of getting his core back RIDICULOUSLY fast, so there is no reason to hold onto it during a big fight. Additonally, it can instantly kill enemy titans if the core drops them to doomed (kinda like Legion's Executioner Aegis Upgrade). In fact, since you already control lanes effectively, this core practically becomes a 3 kit on a much shorter cool down than the rest.
6- Smoke. SPAM it. Since you get cores more often than a fat guy gets extra servings at the buffet, you'll also be getting electric smokes more often than even a counter-ready Monarch. So, use them in just about every situation possible. Examples:
*When a large group of titans is coming towards you? Use the smoke to cloak yourself and fire away.
*When you're moving through a group of moving titans? Throw down all of your available smokes to maximize DPS.
*End of the game and you have extras? SMOKE RAVE!!!!
7 (and last)- Always start reloading. In most games where reloading individual rockets or grenades is possible, gamers will find a way to make their characters reload each instance they stop shooting. Do the same for Scorch. Did you stop shooting? Reload immediately. That way, you minimilize the reloading time when situations get dire. Besides, you have other (and much stronger) means to deal damage, so you can use firewalls and traps to deal damage while you reload.
What kit do u recommend for scorch, do you think the increased damage and duration for thermal shield is good?
@bilboshwaggins1676 I use the "Scorched Earth" kit. The extra thermite from the "Flame Core" not only helps with the titans that didn't die instantly frome your core ability, it also helps with building my "Core Meter Multiplier"
@@seancarter4488I have also maxed Scorch, and I typically use Wildfire Launcher. I can definitely see the appeal of Scorched Earth, and while I haven’t tried it, I assume that the kit only benefiting when using the core is worse than the kit benefiting all the time. Though as you explained, cores are effectively on cooldown, so I suppose I should try it out next time.
Also, you didn’t mention it and I’m curious about your perspective. Is Overcore the best titan kit for Scorch? think it’s either Nuke Eject or more frequently Enhanced Speed (or whatever the kit is that decreases dash cooldown).
Otherwise, great advice all around!
@egregastandindus1193 in my opinion you get you get your core so fast any way that using turbo engine or nuke eject is better.

Hey Butterbar. One big thing to remember. Enemies don't shoot at you while hidden in smoke. This'll give time to hide and delay while the barrels recharge. Remember to only shoot one barrel at a time unless absolutely necessary. By popping back and hiding in smoke then delaying advances with the barrels you can avoid charging in and using the shield. This is where wildfire is better than the tempered plating. Sit back and work the corners. Hell, bounce the barrels off the walls to get them into position. The scorch is vital in any round of frontier defense.

How would you compare him to Legion? Legion's for the most part pretty relaxed. It's only when we're forced to get up close without smoke and sidestrafe mashing gun shield and powershot does it get really hectic, but for Scorch it's your bread and butter. Ion feels like the patrol dog to me if you aren't engaging or running full speed to the next drop zone to drop trip wire before their bubbles even pop you aren't being as damage effective as you ought to be it seems.

Actually, loading 3 round is much faster than loading 1 round 3 times - what I mean is, that besides inserting rounds there is starting and ending part of animation that is done every time you are reloading - open the gun, put round(s) in, close the gun.
So in tern of effectiveness there not only DPS boost, but also increased RRPS (reloaded rounds per second))))
honestly I find nothing wrong with the double reload. it makes sense. one round is one round, its a single shot breach loading grenade launcher, what do you expect

I think scorch is op in frontier defense. If you manage trap snd flamewall cd, you can single handedly lock down a corner even on master difficulty. Def need to land shots tho, you cant really afford to miss
I always loved scorch for the hit and run style with area denial. Being able to play corners and hit an enemy, even long range, and still doing DOT to those enemies is great. I like to try and stay closer to the harvester when playing and letting my teammates put out aggro damage and often find myself being the longest surviving. I recently downloaded tf2 on pc on sale and played my first game of frontier defense in a long time, had mvp on 4 of 5 waves, love me some papa scorch
Thank you for your service as a firefighter. I have the same grievances you mention with the thermite launcher however I'd like to add I don't feel there should've been two upgrades to get to the three shot thermite launcher. It should've been three shots at the hot streak level and have hotstreak as the first upgrade then something new for the missing 6th upgrade. It would've been
better like you said if it fired three rounds after reloading once. When I first read the upgrades for scorch I thought it was reload once and it fired like the coldwar *dunk* *dunk* *dunk* so you're firing them in one burst but you have much more AOE you can do and do a bit more than a single shot if all three hit directly. I would've much preferred that. They could've changed the cylinder so it had a three square back to show the three chamber round too! That would've been really neat.

I think scorch and northstar would make a good pair, scorch is able to take a fair amount of damage and to close halls while northstar (with piercing shot) can shot through him and multiple titans. If a scorch sees northstar put down a trap then he can use the incendiary trap when a titan is locked down and deal huge damage. If 3
2 scorch's held down their own lane the northstar could bounce back and forth helping if one starts getting overwhelmed. And scorch also picks up where northstar lacks which is taking out the grunts and spectures due to her slow shot. I think the only problem would be the drones but that could be helped by monarch who could provide shields to the scorch's to make sure they stay alive.

You're an ultimate zone control machine, and you can throw your thermite and cannisters from top of the bridge with easy, while holding upper right flank at the same time and take out 2 camps of mortal sceptres instantly and 2 more with close proximity.
Titan's strenght depends how you use him.
As you get upgrades, it goes from single thermite grenade to belt fed thermite grenades(2 attached, then 3 attached) that have to be shoved in a little more.
It's faster to reload all three in a row then to reload after every shot, not only can he put out a lot of damage quickly, it also cuts the reload animation so that you don't open up the thermite launcher three times
Butter i love playing in the network and loved the fd game with you. As far as scorches thermite launcher your idea would be really fun. As well i had the thought of a clip system almost like we see with the G2. Take 5 seconds to reload and back to dps. Just a thought. The other tip i would have is doing the thermal shield kit because when you get held back in maps like homestead its nice to burn 4 or 5 reapers. Or two waves of drones. Just a thought let me know

Scorch, Ion and Northstar are the only Titans you really need for FD. I've done FD Insane multiple times and maxed out Aegis ranks on all my Titans. And no matter the level or map, I've always found Scorch, Ion and NS to be the only Titans you need.
Also great vid, haven't seen any FD focused vids except for this one.

I guess the bright side of not using tempered plating is that if you have nuke eject then you can get it when you might need it most
I prefer to use Scorched Earth in Frontier Defense since it helps you recharge your core with any enemies that DID survive your flame core still taking more damage from the residual thermite.
I always just run the scorched earth, or whatever it's called that makes my flame core leave thermite on the ground. That usually works for me

Butter, if you play blackwater and get overrun in that tunnel, you're not Scorching right. Then again, I stick to normal.

Inferno shield upgrade kit is just too good to not use to I recommend that over tempered plating. Overcore is ok but come on survivability vs getting your first core fast is not worth it to me. After you get your first core with him over core doesn’t do anything. Every time you drop down your titan and it starts at 30% that’s it it doesn’t do anything else. So turbo dash is definitely what you should be using instead. Inferno shield blocks incoming damage so increasing the duration makes it way more useful than tempered plating. The damage of inferno shield isn’t really that important since your not really going to be using it like that in frontier defense.

Any love for Ion? I just started playing Titanfall 2 and really like how Ion plays in Frontier Defense (I don't care for PvP), but I'm not finding a whole lot on how to play it best. I get it's a jack-of-all-trades Titan, but surely there are some tips and tricks for it?

Question. Concerning the insane difficulty for frontier defense do you believe that it should allow the players to have their Titans for the beginning of the 1st wave? And the Titans should be allowed to use in the 1st wave for only insane difficulty

Boosted Thermal shield kit is the only one ya should take. It's boosted again with the Angies rank, can eats nuke Titans, as well as eat a nuke ejection. Legion cant do that....
So the shield can protect from the explosion?
@@bradenhagen7977 it can save you from death but it will make you doomed, etheir you run a doomed scorch or you eject for a new one. But if you save your dash while giving a legion a face wash with fire. You can easily get out of the range of the nuke ejection. Plus, melting 3/4 of a titan's HP and hitting with one or two shots from the thermite launcher will make easy kills if it doesn't just out right kill them.
@@bradenhagen7977 but if you're talking about like a Archer or like tracking missile from a tone than yes. It's just the explosives that will still cause area dpm that you'll fight like a nuke legion but if it's a projectile, scorch can eat it.

Thermite launcher has low damage... are you on crack? Maybe if you don't take the perk for it, but all the others are meh at best in this mode so why wouldn't you?
I respectfully disagree with some of your points. I don't consider myself a great player but I do average 8000 points and most mvp on hard and usually leave most team mates with damage delt medals. I play scorch wildly different. I try to set him and choke points and burn as many times as possible building/using my core then nuke eject when I need to. Iv held things with scorch that I didn't think I could and definitely wouldn't have with any other Titan and I'm a legion Main
The only downside I found on scorch is that they die before you can terminate another titan

the reload is dumb, imagine if ion had to reload five times for each shot he had. it's stupid, the three thermite rounds need to go away and there should be a cluster shot instead. just like ion. VERY SIMPLE FIX.
