Paste Wax on a Table Saw

  • This table saw tip will help prevent your table saw top from rusting. It will also help your stock slide easier across the top by applying Johnson’s Paste Wax. I use this on my table saw to help everything glide smooth on the top and prevent rusting. You can also use steel wool and mineral spirits to remove rust from your table saw before applying the paste wax to the saw. Applying paste wax to the saw is a great way to maintain the finish and useability of your saw for years to come.

    Great work simple and to the point.
    Another tip, if you use a saw sled, paste wax the bottom of that and the runners. It will make owl snot seem sticky.
    The big benefit of the paste wax is it doesn’t have chemicals to stain the wood. Car wax will produce the same slick and protective surface, but contains staining chemicals that will react with tannic acid in many wood types.

    I have a older craftsman 113 table saw. Wax is a life saver on it.

    Could I use beeswax instead?

    Hey man, had a question… did you have any issues with your Delta Table Saw fence not being square? I was ripping some edges yesterday evening, and noticed it wasn’t 100% square when I locked it down. Any tips or advice?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  Před 2 lety +1

      I didn't have any issues. But you can adjust it. Take the fence off and flip it upside down. You'll see that there are a couple of tabs that go against the rails that you can adjust to get it square. Good info on how to do it here czcams.com/video/AK5MLWRHIa8/video.html

      Boeshield makes a good teflon based product. T-9 I think it is called. Also you can check out Carbon Method (search CZcams you'll see several videos). I bought the Carbon Method pack but haven't applied it yet.

      Frequently! All the time! Constantly! After any project I have I will blow it off and wipe it down before I slide it home in its bunk. Seriously. Its soooo easy to apply and one tub like he has will last for a long long time. If you make wood jigs its great for that as a finish as well. I lube my router sleds and miter sleds with it. I cannot imagine life without it! Get it! Use it!
      Side note. If you are working with fine lumber that you will be dyeing or staining later you might consider wiping the project down with mineral spirits just in case any wax transferred to the wood. Not really all that likely to be an issue but its also not a bad idea anyway to help raise any grain that needs it before you find out the hard way :)

    Hey Matt, I have the same table saw and love it as well. Have you thought about an outfeed table and found any online for purchase? I’m looking for one before I think about having to build one.

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  Před 6 lety

      I haven’t looked for one online. But I have thought about building one. I do need one! Right now I have my old Delta table saw behind it using it as an outfeed table. It’s about 4” shorter though so it’s not really an outfeed table. It just keeps my stock from falling to the floor.
