Dave returns just in time to watch Steven Seagal's lone directorial abortion, On Deadly Ground. It's as masturbatory and embarrassing as expected. We had Off Cam Pam with us to give some insights into his hilarious attempts at being Native American. Seagal never ceases to amaze me.

Seagal was going to make a movie about Genghis khan where he was going to play the Mongolia warlord unfortunately that movie was never made it would have been epic otherwise
That cereal is nasty, not sure how anyone can enjoy it.
Yes, the concussive blast from an explosion can put out a fire.
will this increase my spirit of the man bear?
Michael Caine is legendary for taking pretty much any role for a Paycheck. Which is why my favorite quote from him was his answer to the question, "Have you ever seen Jaws: The Revenge?" He replied, "No, I have not. However, I have seen the house I bought with the money I was paid for that movie, and it's very nice."
thats one of my fav things about caine lol. that quote and he admits he just does movies sometimes for money, he doesn't try to hide it at all and i respect that. he deserves that nice house from jaws the revenge lol.
Hey, he was a war hero.
In my book, he's entitled to not take everything too seriously. Good for him!
Same with Danny Trejo, that man does not turn down work.
“ I look at the first page of the script and then the last page. If the character I play is on both pages, I do the bloody picture”.

Ya, why shouldn't he? It doesn't harm his career. Everyone still knows he's a terrific actor. Power to him! 👏
"Only through the elimination of violence can we achieve world peace".
-Seagal after drop kicking a dude through a window
Ultron had the same opinion.
Y.K Kim
It takes violence to eliminate violence; ergo, we've got to fight evil with its own weapons.
😅😂😂
Geniu writing, am I right? 🤣😅
It is so weird seeing a Seagal movie with actual actors in it.
It's almost a real movie.
Joan Chen is a hottie.
Reminds me of a time when he made movies that actually went to theaters and were somewhat watchable as well.
@@alucard624 what are these things you speak of? “The eaters”? Is that something from the before times? Before the corona?
Let me guess, Michael Caine did this because he wanted a trip to Alaska.
I’m Native American and in the 90s I thought Steven seagal was a bad ass because of this movie. Then the rumour came out that he was part Native American and it made this movie more bad ass. Looking back it now…. Ouff. Love that you guys finally made this video, been watching yous for a good year now, pretty much watched all of your early vids too, need more chuck Norris films, keep up the awesome work guys ok love you
Take pride in your heritage. 👍👍👍
thats why hes so hated, he did all this to trick people into thinking hes cool and "one of them" so they would give him attention and money. it sadly worked for awhile, im just glad it stopped lol. i dont think anyone but steven knows what nationality he really is.
I really hope that English becomes the next culture he tries to claim. Hearing him try to pull off an RP accent would grant a hundred angels their wings.
Steven cast a Chinese actress to play Alaskan native.😂
That topless fantasy lady in vision quest doesn't look native.😅
😂 This reminds me of when Johnny Depp claimed to have a Cherokee Great-Grandma, back in 2011 while working on The Lone Ranger movie, where he played "Tonto" the native sidekick; 🙄
all for the sake of the native kids in the reservations, whom he wanted to "inspire". 🙄
You know, reawaken the warrior in them.
Spoiler>/spoiler>
"I wanted to maybe give some hope to the kids on the reservations. They're living without running water, and seeing problems with drugs and booze. But I wanted to be able to show these kids ''Fuck that, You're still warriors, man!''
🙄🙄 Spoken like a nice white savior, Johnny
Spoiler>/spoiler>
That is exactly it. The explosion takes away the oxygen from a fire, smothers the flames and the shockwave pushes the oil away from the fire, so it doesn't catch again. Using explosions to put out the fire is actually how they do that. I'm pretty sure you need more protection than what Seagal was wearing though and I'm not sure where he placed the barrel of explosives would work that well.
John Wayne did a far far better job in 'The Hellfighters'-
"You wanna put out an oil fire, sir? You set off a bigger explosion right next to it. Sucks away the oxygen, snuffs the flame."
-Captain Price, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
Segal single handedly set climate activism back by around 400 years with this movie
good! .. activism based on a hoax anyway... not a single climate predictions ever came true..
you only know anything about climate control because you've been told what to think about it by the mainstream media because you are a typical brainless mainstream media fed sheeple
“Well, I’d normally be on board with saving the ice caps, but if the world ends so does Seagal…”
That's a good thing. Climate activists are worst than climate change.
This is the film that tanked Seagal's career. He was riding high off the back of Under Siege (still a great film, largely because of everyone else in it), and would only do a sequel to that if he could direct a movie himself. On Deadly Ground was that film, and it ultimately tanked... as did Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (which is genuinely So Bad It's Good - hope you do it at some point, he wears a girdle and everything). Afterwards that double-bill of failure he was basically relegated to the Direct-to-DVD slump he's been stuck in ever since.
It's funny how Sifu went from an enviromentalist to a supporter of russian dictators.
I think that's a narrow view to say THIS is the movie that takes his career. Safe to say it would have tanked anyway
Please. There is no such thing as a good (much less "great") action movie. Especially anything this piece of sh*t had anything to do with. The Seagal of Under Siege is the Sensei Seagull who is now Putin's special envoy. Morons swinging their dicks around at lesser humans is not a recipe for a great movie. Stallone, Van Damme, Norris...all of them suck and always have. The only movie where a "martial artist" fights for justice that was ever any good was Billy Jack, and even then it was only because he was a modest, reluctant anti-hero who was defending the innocent from good ol' boys and dick-swingers. The entire genre is a rancid, narcissistic bowel movement.
@@philiphied It actually did fairly well at first, opening at number one. That's why I said it ULTIMATELY tanked, because once people realised how bad it was, it didn't stay at number one for long.
I disagree about Under Siege 2.. ok, it ain't as good as the first...but it's a decent action movie to pass the time
Michael Caine is one of those actors who always give good performances, even if the movie itself is utter schlock.
It’s impossible for him to give a bad performance.
At a certain point in his career, Caine decided that he’d be in anything that paid enough, but that doesn’t seem to have hurt his professionalism…
Christopher Walken also comes to mind.
@Surferdude Tje Do what? Look idiotic?
Jaws the revenge bought his mum a house
Steven Seagal is for movies what Tiger King is for Animal Rights
And like the tigers that were put down in Tiger King, so were the supporting actors of On Deadly Ground. The only difference for the actors was that it was requested. Steven stem-severing seasick seagull Seagal should be locked up for attempted murder of film.
Carol FUKEN Baskin
This might've been the movie I started noticing Seagal have an air of confidence rarely seen in this day and age.
Self-confidence is the essence of a man; 😂😂 It takes confidence for a white saviour to believe he carries as many racial genes as he claims.
This coming at the tail end of what Michael Caine himself called his "take any role that offered a good paycheck" period. Which he said winning a Golden Globe five years later "so I made a lot of crap. But I made a lot of money so I can afford to be picky." And the year after that, he wins a second Oscar so pretty sure he felt worth it.
He's made two appearances on SBIG now. Hoping for more.
So how do you explain his appearance in the Vin Diesel flick The Last Witch Hunter
@@albundy774 Maybe he just wanted to work with Vin Diesel. Same with Helen Mirren in Fast 8 and 9.
Caine made more than his fair share of schlock. The Swarm is definitely one of those films.
@@albundy774 he was coerced.
With Dave explaining the story beats to Jason, I've come to the conclusion that Dave can see Seagal movie plots like Neo does the Matrix

Sinkers and floaters.
It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I like it mainly because the cast and action that's it lol

This is the movie that caused people to stop going to Seagal movies.
Great video guys And fun fact director Steven Seagal filmed almost 40 minutes of footage for the environmental message at the end of this movie, and planned to use it all in the final cut. After pressure from Warner Brothers and a disastrous preview screening, where audience members booed, laughed, and made obscene gestures for the entire sequence, Seagal cut the final scene down to about seven minutes.
Steven Seagal has his opinion here but he has no idea about this problem and how big it really is.
The fact is the technologies he was talking about can only serve this world if we have to format the world for them in 10 or 20 years.
I think most of us know we have to solve this but nobody has a solution for a nightmare problem like this.
I can't bear the idea of Seagal pulling an Author Filibuster.
40 mins? Is that real?
@@JasonBrant yep according to the IMDb trivial page
@wespozo oh, ayuh, it's for real.
"Of course I ride good, I'm a native American!"- Joan Chen, Chinese Actress
To be fair, there are ancient connections between ancient China and the Inuit people.
Still though a minimal effort was put into the casting of the shaman and tribesmen extras.
The film starts and Lola begins chewing her foot off so she doesn't have to watch. I feel ya girl 🤣
That's a smart move.
@6:52 It wasn't the pilot banking. Seagal just switched seats and the weight of his ego caused the chopper to tip that way! 🤣🤣🤣
Best thing that came out of this movie was the South Park parody of Randy in Native American gear doing a variation of Seagal's speech from the end. I laughed so damn hard at that part.
Sad part is that this and even Fire Down Below are still better than the direct to DVD garbage his career would be relegated to later on.
This had a big budget, which makes it all the more hilarious to me.

I often enjoy manic villains in movies but there's just a lot that doesn't work about Michael Caine in this role. not his fault, just weird casting. it adds to how hilariously bad this movie is. this movie truly is a masterpiece of disastrous trash 😆

I remember seeing this as a teen who enjoyed Seagal's early stuff and being stunned, by not only how badly made it is, but how morally ugly. Its message is basically, "If you see someone being racist, literally beat it out of them and they will change. If you see oil companies hurting the environment, commit terrorism against them and you're a hero." Seriously, how much of the climactic sequence is Seagal murdering unarmed or helpless people as they try to escape? It's like if a blockbuster action movie was written by a sociopath.

My brother in laws friends literally hiked 3 miles through Wenatchee National Forest, Washington cause they had closed the area off to film. To meet Steven Seagal when he was filming this movie. They got caught by security but Steven Seagal agreed to meet them. They waited 2 hours in a camping trailer and got to hangout 20 minutes with him and talk. They said he was really nice. They have this huge picture of 8 of them and Steven Seagal standing in the middle with this same jacket on.

At the time, Seagall was at the height of his megalomania. Believe it or not, he was sure he would win an Oscar for Best Picture for this movie.
Oscar worthy Writing. Directing, Acting, Producing & Action Choreography.
Steven at his best.
All he's missing is his iconic Waddle technique he develops later during the Golden Age of Hollywood. A master of his craft. A worthy Nobel Peace prize contender on all categories.
I never imagined Seagal would fit a stripping scene in even this movie, but I was somehow incorrect. I gave him to much credit.

No she’s not. She’s Chinese. No seriously, the actress is Chinese and playing an Inuit. 😂
Her character in the movie is Native Inuit genius lol. Al Pacino isn't Cuban but he still pretended to be one in Scarface.
It's a bit silly that he can't find an actual Inuit actress for that role.
Fun review as always! I saw this one the weekend it premiered in theaters. And yes, this was an A-list Warner Bros release. Originally titled "The Rainbow Warrior", Seagal apparently filmed plenty more environmental messaging for the movie -- but WB made him trim it down (luckily). Silly movie, but entertaining in the bad way. Best aspect is Ric Waite's robust widescreen cinematography -- which is strangely cropped in your review...

Ah, Steven. Forever the mystical peaceful warrior.
Seagal punched the racism out of him.
That’s actually how oil rig fires are extinguished… the explosion actually sucks up all the oxygen and causes a vacuum that snuffs it out
Sven Ole Thorsen, who is in this, wrote about his expierience. Steven found out that Sven actually was an old Karate fighter and kept calling him out about it and challenging him. Sven finally got tired of this and accepted.. To no surprise Steven went flying. Steven got so mad about this that Sven's role became much shorter in the final movie. Now I only have Sven's words for this in his Biography.. but the more I see about Seagal the more i believe it.
Jean Claude Van Damme would wipe the floor with him. The two never got along and one time, Van Damme had enough of his BS talk and challenged him to a fight in a parking lot. He wound up waiting for an hour before realizing Seagull had ghosted him...
Long-time subscriber, but just getting to this one. Great stuff. I saw an interview with a Warner Brothers executive where the executive talked about Seagal directing this movie. Specifically, he mentioned that the studio had an agreement with Seagal about budget overages. All approved overages, which happen on every film, would be covered by the studio. All un-approved overages would be taken out of Seagal's salary. By the end of the movie, Seagal owed the studio more than his salary (acting & directing). In exchange for the studio writing off his debt, he agreed to be in the first portion of Executive Decision (which explains why he was killed in the first 20 minutes). Glorious Hollywood story.

Damn funny AF, awesome episode. I wish you would've shown the outrageous R Lee Ermy speech about how great Steven seagal is tho. That's the best part ever
You are correct about the explosion. My dad was a firefighter and a John Wayne fan. When i first watched Hellfighters, my dad explained (as I try to remember) that essentially the explosion deprives the fire of oxygen putting it out. Then allows them to then cap the crude gushing out.
I used to watch 'On Deadly Ground' on telly so many times. It was 8PM special for years on certain channel that had very limited movie offer. Also this movie has an amazing star cast: Michael Caine, drill Sergeant, future dr Cox, still unknown Billy Bob. After "Under Siege" Sensei Seagal was really at the top.
The cast really is stellar.
This is the most i have ever laughed watching a CZcams video. From the banking helicopter onwards I was crying.
I can't help laughing every time I see this movie! I have a friend who is Lakota and this came on tv one night when we were hanging out. He gets enraged when he sees it and I have to ask what his problem with it is. He says just to watch the first bit. When it gets to that bar scene, he goes on a long rant about how that Native American guy is just a stereotypical drunk and it takes the white savior to come in and restore the honor of this people. He rants so hard on that drunk guy that it just put me in stitches! It pretty much ended with "Fuck Steven Seagal and fuck that guy!" I still crack up every time I see this flick or see it mentioned. I hope Seagal knows how highly he is thought of by at least one Lakota out there. If he's not sleeping good at night, it's because this guy is thinking about him.
My dad worked for the company that the villain was based on up where seagal was filming. He went with his oil field friends and watched it. They laughed the whole time. My dad and I watch it once a year
