I first learned about Tanabata through an online friend. He is Japanese and he sent me some photos of the Tanabata Festival celebration in his city. Unfortunately, we have lost contact but I’m glad that he introduced me to the wonderful story of Tanabata. I hope he is doing well and I hope that he will enjoy the Tanabata this year.

Very clear and informative-- as a big fan of Japanese culture, I can't get enough of these~ Interesting how many holidays fall on the "month+day" double scheme; i.e. Girl's Day 3/3, Children's Day 5/5, and Tanabata 7/7. I wonder how many more holidays are like this? Looking forward to seeing more, if you plan to make 'em!
This month+day double scheme originally comes from China. While 5/5 and 7/7 are still widely celebrated, 3/3 isn't that widely observed anymore, unfortunately. 5/5 is the Dragon Boat Festival. While 5/5 and 3/3 may have been associated with boys and girls respectively in the past, modern China uses the "international" Children's Day to celebrate kids on 6/1.

There's a character in the game "pop'n music", SARASA, that has hair like the bamboo trees with hanging wishes, and whose song has the genre listed as "TANABATA". Now, I finally understand!

hi my name is guilherme i'm from brazil, the tanabata matsuri festival is also celebrated in brazil in the city of sao paulo for many years sao paulo has the largest japanese community in the world outside japan, i speak portuguese and japanese i learned japanese at 8 years old today i have 17 years I understand Japanese perfectly like a native 🇧🇷🇯🇵❤️

Yep the story is just like the Chinese story this is really a copy of the Chinese Festival
even the weaver girl and the cow heard are the same story! it’s just Japanese people and names
that’s the only differences but the holiday itself is different then the Chinese version [Gosh Dang!!!!]

Has the Origin Story of Tanabata ever been adapted in any Anime TV Shows and Movie ????
It has in certain episodes of shows that’s for sure. The basics doraemon, sazae, etc have probably had a few episodes about it. As a stand alone movie I don’t think so. Maybe a short anime for kids
