The tale of the "head." This is my first “Super-Custom.” I hope you enjoy!
I have done so much with so little for so long that I can now do anything with nothing.

I like it, a lot. The Scammell truck always bothers me one way. Where are the headlights and are there two or four? Lights are absolutely necessary for a snow plow. One last question, how strong do you think your frame is? E.G. How many days of play by a kid do you think it would survive?
Woah . . . there's a lot there . . . I looked at many photos of the actual Scammell truck and then I tried painting headlights (one each side) on it where they were supposed to be. Since there is no casting definition as most Lesney products have I thought they just looked like random dots not headlights. Then I tried the head of a small nail . . . do you realize how small that area is? I have very large hands. Anyway, that wasn't happening, they looked odd.
To your last question, I wouldn't even venture a guess. Let me tell you this though. In the 80's I worked in an auto parts store and sold JB Weld. They would send us two engine valves "welded" together with JB Weld and we tried . . . a bunch of young, backyard mechanics full of piss and vinegar with a store full of tools . . . we couldn't get them apart. But those were "mated" surfaces. My answer is this I guess, it is either indestructible or it would break in the first minute. I'm not going to test it since I have many-many hours into it.
Really great question though.
👍👍👍👍
@@TimeRider I don't remember playing with Matchbox box trucks, but you did get this reefer box from another matchbox truck. Anyway, it's a great model and concept. I'd buy one if I saw it on display. Keep making really FUN customs like this please.
@@TimeRider I would bet your truck is way stronger than the original snow plow after using your nail construction
When I was a kid with these models, for our RR layout. I Had the Cooper -Jarrett tandem trailer highway truck. Seeing as you get 2 trailers & only 1 tractor. I used the Scamell , removed the plow & body added another axle & wheels to make It a tandem tractor, painted it blue & had another truck for the other trailer. The Scamell kind of looks like an American White or REO, We were always altering these. I still do custm altering but in 1/64th scale now.
It's for display not play, it was probably broken from some kid
That is truly one of the best lesney videos on CZcams. Hands down.
Thank-you, very flattering.
That was a great example of doing a lemonade with a half lemon! Awesome work
"One of my hobbies would be sanding", that was great. Fantastic work on this.
A wonderful wonderful creation...... looks shop bought well done
Very nice . It lives. Thanks again.
Beautiful job thanks for sharing your talents
Amazing result.... fantastic!
That turned out beautifully.
Stepping into the world of not only Restorations, but customizations. Orange happens to be my favorite color. Very nice. Matchbox would approve.
LOL . . . I appreciate the sentiment but here's the thing . . . it would *NEVER* fit in one of their boxes!
🤣🤣🤣
You set your self apart , MAGNIFICENT!! I watch Marty, Baremetal HW, Diecast Resurrection, Matchbox Garage , And your channel as well. Their good but you have brought a special WOW factor to this hobby. Awsome job!
I loved that and you did the model justice. I have a collection of Scammells from models, T-shirts and literature from the factory. I also know a local chap who collects the real things and houses them in his own private museum. He has one very similar to your model in both 4 wheelers & 6 wheelers. Just the earlier cab but still with the split screen. Scammell were a pioneering company in their day, unfortunately like the most of British engineering, they were allowed to die and all the patents I believe ended up in America. (Under the Paccar Group). They produced the first military tank transporter for the British Army around the First World War right up to the last one being the Commander, I have driven one loaded with military tank. Now replaced with the Oshkosh. I have also driven and repaired Mack tank transporters as I am also a Mack 'nut', T-shirts, models, books excetra. I just keep taking the tablets. Ha Ha.
Beautiful, well done.
Brilliant as usual
Really cool custom Time Rider it turned out great.
Nice job love the Scammell truck!
Great job fabbing this together. When you said you chose to paint it orange I actually made an audible groan, but I must say it does look good. Always enjoy your presentations, thanks for sharing your experience and humor.
OMG 😃.... What a beautiful job, you most definitely made a home run with this... Great job 🤙..
Thanks Char, you've been with me a long time . . . relatively speaking . . . I appreciate your support!
Lee, thankyou very much I appreciate your responses, it's almost like talking to someone famous on you tube.... I have so much respect for this hobby, one day I hope to have a set up to where I can do this... I love these die casts and I enjoy watching and learning.... 🤙
Nice idea. Works well.
Very nice example Time Rider 🍻👍
Excellent Work
Mighty convincing. Nice work.
That turned out amazing. I think it worked out well because it was a truck. Amazing that u got it to sit level. Wouldn’t mind seeing more “Frankenstein” trucks. I may even try one myself. Thanks for posting. 👍👍👍
You will . . . I'm actually working on one right now. Maybe next weekend.
Very well done
Very well done!!! Congrats!
Wow a 1 of a kind custom. Congratulations mate
Fantastic job
Awesome ingenuity
Nailed it well done.
That truck is AWESOME!! Excellent job!
Great custom! It looks like a real Matchbox.
Well . . . it is! It's two of them in fact! But I get what you mean!
👍
Really, really nice result. You AND Fred got it right.
Thanks for sharing buddy looks great buddy q👍👍
very well done.
It's gorgeous. And orange is perfect. Great channel.
Thanks!
Absolutely stunning work!
Looks amazing
Impressive! It also would have made a great military lorry. Great job!
I thought about it . . . truly.
Very nice work. The color scheme reminds me of the late, lamented Coles Express trucking company (not to be confused with the chain of Australian gas stations), which used to be a fixture on the roads of Maine in my childhood. Their rigs had a very similar deco.
Looks fantastic! With those colors, make up some decals for Yellow Freight and then you've got something really special.
Good color choices, looks nice.
Awesome custom
This is one of your best, perhaps THE best customs/restorations yet! To me it looks like something Lesney could have produced themselves. The color scheme is very well choosen too.
Well done on producing a truly one off model from what was basically scrap and destined for the bin/trash.
"What do you do with something with this?".....Exactly what you did! Nice job!! Way to do a custom! Interesting to watch
Very nice!
Love your work, looks great
Nicely done Lee!
That was so inspiring and well executed. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow I am in awe sir, lovely job looks like it was always meant to be. While Marty plays with his camera trickery you just get on and create your own matchbox lol. Keep up the good work.
I have a great deal of respect for anyone who makes a video and puts it out there for others to critique. Marty likes to do his restorations and I appreciate his abilities, I learned a lot from him when I started this. Lately, I haven't seen anything in his videos that everyone hasn't already seen . . . just in a different color. I think he would do well stepping outside the box at least once in a while though. But he's Marty and so long as it works for him, who am I to judge?
Nice, i like how more of the diecast channels are doing customs and mods, why not?, what a great looking truck.
I love doing restorations, they are the heart and soul of this hobby, but I think the customs really give a modelers creativity a ride!
Very nice.
I like to see someone thinks outside the box and make something beautiful. Now that was a custom great job man
Quite a handsome utilitarian vehicle. To those who go "OMG you dared to cut a Matchbox in half!", I say "Hey, it's an old toy which has been played with a lot, so it fulfilled its purpose. Now it has a second life."
That's genius!
It actually looks like something matchbox would produce! Fantastic work!
Wow that's fringing awesome. Awesome job.
Thank you very much!
Very nice😀👍
Awesome.
Nice! Looks factory!
Wow! Fantastic
very nice job rider
very nice job agentTR.
Wow this came out awesome nice job
Now that’s a back in the day Man Truck. Nice work!
Excellent Job!!
This little cab had so many possibilities. In the end what you did to it is awesome. I love the end result.
That looks absolutely beautiful. And that's possibly the first time a Scammell has been referred to as 'beautiful'. And it looks absolutely RIGHT, too. It's the sort of vehicle that you'd see with oil company survey teams, perhaps in South America or the middle East. I have both vehicles you used to make this - but as they are two of my favourites, I'm going to keep my eyes open for a couple of tatty ones to do 'surgery' on. If that were a genuine Lesney model, when I was a kid, it would be on my 'wants' list for sure. Nice one. I saw the Baremetal HW soldering video - and he was only able to solder the model, as he copper plated it first, which I imagine helped disperse the heat. I gave up on trying to solder ZAMAC way, way back in the 1980's. Adhesives have come so far nowadays that soldering is best left to electronics and delicate jewellery repair.
Yes, yes, yes, I agree and another yes!
LOVE IT!!!!!
Great custom. Looks better than I first thought it would. You might want to get a jeweler's saw. You can make straight cuts in tight spots like cutting that cab off flush.
Beautiful job. I like to see broken parts used to do a custom vehicle. Very clever!
Amazing restoration. I would have thrown the cab away or used it in a model scrapyard. You have created a masterpiece, a silk purse out of a sows ear. I salute you sir.
I really like what you did to this. You nailed it spot on!
Thanks George!
It came out really well, another great video. The luxury car challenge looks fun, can't wait. 👍
Very Nice
Very good TR an awesome result I salute your skill and patience's
I did watch this last year Lee , but i do like to indulge in enjoyable recollection of past builds .
Looks good
looks like it came that way. I'd call it a mild custom because you got it to fit so well together. Super nice.
awesome
Nice work. The orange is the same color my hometown's public works. Orange. Or "safety yellow." City of St. Louis, MO.
Wonderful job! Congraulations, Sir.
I really enjoyed watching you create something from nothing. The outcome is brilliant. Love it. Thank you for the effort you put in
Absolutely stunning, love the color combination. Great work!
Very nice work, it’s as if it was meant to be, you’d never say it was a cut and shut, it really turned out beautifully, top job👌👍😊
looks good
just awesome
OUTSTANDING!
So well done, if you didn't know Lesneys (Matchbox)
.... it looks OEM....!
Damn! That was a great job!!!
Always enjoy you vids, and I like the history of the toy when you start.
Very interesting!! Thank you.
No . . . thank you!
That's what would be described as bleddy handsome you from round my way. That is a true wreck to riches build
Looks great
That came out brilliantly. The container might look good in British racing green.
It might . . . but I think the cab would have had to be black or white for that to work.
Wonderful job. The result is awesome!!!👍👍👍
I love seeing the creativity of customs. it looks great now. looks like it came from the factory, excellent job
Well I must say, you did good Lee. Fabulous turnout. Thank you from South Africa
One of a kind .
A cool imaginative solution to making a Scammel truck. Me likey!
Very impressive the way it worked out fantastic job 🏅🏅🏅
That's a wonderful makeover, beautiful work and you choose a good color , enjoy your weekend Sir !
Wow, what a creative custom. Fantastic job!
