  • From the WGN Archives, we take you back to June 1986, when a tip from an Indiana farmer led authorities to discover the bodies of mob boss Anthony Spilotro and his brother Michael. Then-WGN reporter Steve Sanders filed this report on the scene shortly after the bodies were found.
Anthony Spilotro, who was famously portrayed by Joe Pesci in the 1995 film ‘Casino,’ was later confirmed to have met his demise in a Bensenville basement, according to testimony given in the “Family Secrets” trial in 2007.

With how deep that hole was it was obvious the mob had every intention of the Spilotro brothers never being found again. Had the farmers there not noticed the disturbed soil around that area or just simply ignored it they would still be on the missing list today.

Buzzards were flying around the grave site which indicates a sloppy burial. I think animals began digging also. So, naturally the farmers knew something was dead.

Why did they not realise a tractor is gonna be hitting that spot at anytime. Only if they'd decided on burying them 10 ft left in the woods next to the field, they may never have been found.

These individuals were not as intelligent as they were made out to be. They were the whipping boys and cover for the small hat mob. The only “gangster” in vegas was Oscar Goodman and associates

If Michael hadn’t gone with he would still be alive. One of the guys who buried him told his wife who then went to the FBI lol. Also Michael had a small role in Magnum PI as well.

Great story. I went to the Family Secrets trial and heard from Nick Calabrese in graphic details how the Spilatro brothers were beat and stomped to death
