I’m sort of on the fence There’s a good reason shows need to go off the air: I believe it’s that these shows are essentially products of their time Let’s just say the Simpsons was not meant to stay on the air for 30 years I suppose maybe the character of Jay Sherman could resurface in some modern format: Jay in his 60s could do a CZcams rendition of Coming Attractions or something like that
If you take note of the graduation date of 1954 and that he's allegedly the New Years baby of 1937, that means he got into college when he was like 13.
I think you forgot "Well he won't get the silverware! I've glued THAT to the ceiling" Jay "I understand the silverware I guess but the furniture?!" Franklin "YOU understand the silverware?! *whistle and finger circling brain* wackooooo"
Franklin is the only character to make me laugh in this show. I can't believe my favorite scene wasn't here, it's when Jay gives his crew a series of "safe" questions to ask Franklin. After Frank answers every question with "NILKNARF!" I die laughing
It's a shame this show didn't have more seasons. It was very nearly as good as "The Simpsons," and the constant "Jewishness" of the humor is brilliant.
@Thiago de Andrade I don't honestly know, I don't recall this comment lol. There's a lot of hints at Jay Sherman being Jewish in rhe show, that's all I can think of...
@@KokoRicky Thank you for your reply. Only now I noticed how old your comment was. To be honest, I have been aware of The Critic for some time now, but only have been delving into it recently. Sherman reminds me a little of the stereotype of the clumsy, bad-with-people Jewish intellectual (like Woody Allen's characters), but his family's backgroung seems to be solidly WASP old money.
Sometimes Sherman‘s dad was a little bit sane, but he’s mostly crazy. I think it’d be cool in the remake of the show the critic if they made a remake. Sherman’s dad can go back-and-forth being insane. And then not insane. To make the show more interesting. He doesn’t act crazy at all and then episodes where he does and episodes where he doesn’t
His greatest quote is missing from this: "As the first black female head of the Ku Klux Klan, I'd like to say America stinks!" (as an opening statement in a debate for President)
That'd be funny! I was talking about when Jay talks to himself, he'll make up a voice & say that he's speaking with Ethel Ethel (Jay's voice disguised): You were quite a looker, Mr. S! Jay: Thank you, Ethel. You know, that analyst said I should stop doing this. Ethel (Jay's voice disguised): He's a quack! Jay: Right as always, Ethel! (Thanks for the upload! =D)
"Dad, you've always been sort of a father to me..." So subtle I almost missed this. The show had some of the best writing for its time.
This show was cut down in its prime- We need this sort of humor over the airwaves in an intense way.

@@KRobinson-ko1ne I think it’s more the style of humor than the show itself.
Franklin is a zen master with a high creative intelligence. He's super rich and does whatever he wants because he's simply amused by his own actions.
If you take note of the graduation date of 1954 and that he's allegedly the New Years baby of 1937, that means he got into college when he was like 13.
the creative intelligence shows at 4:40
I want to be him when I grow up.
I love that they make reference that Franklin doesn't actual have dementia he is just constantly drunk. My future looks bright.
I thought it was because he never recovered from trying Ted Kennedy's spiked punch.
Thank you Mr. Gerrit Graham for voiced Franklin Sherman!
Quinn, from Voyager! I knew I recognized his voice!
@@BBBoggs He was also Andy's foster father in Child's Play 2.

I have to say these were way ahead of their time Jon Lovett your greatness let's start doing some new ones please
I use to watch this show every week. Never had 1937 & the early onset of Dementia looked cooler. Go Franklin, go!
I wish this show would've lasted. It was so rich. Franklin was my favorite.
if I was a vegetable I think I'd be a carrot.
You missed the part where the wine glass gets shout of out his hand and he says "Not to worry" and pulls up a second hitherto unseen wine glass.
The Peanut is neither a pea nor a nut
Oh wait, it is a nut
I remember a lot of shows from this time were like funny but soothing 😄
I want to boogie with baby '37!
I love the Baby '37 music!
Franklin is gotta be my absolute favortie character in the show aside from Jay. I relate with him a lot. Except for the rich part. 😂
I love this show already.
Funniest character on tv
It's a shame this show didn't have more seasons. It was very nearly as good as "The Simpsons," and the constant "Jewishness" of the humor is brilliant.
What is so Jewish about the shows' humor?

The bit at 5:10 is simple but always me laugh so much 😂
That amazing moment when you discover Franklin Sherman was Beef in Phantom of the Paradise.
i would like a date like that man had
“I’ve invented the worlds first fish-mo-baby-whirl-a-ma-gig. It’ll be bigger than the badgerblaster!”
So many questions…

Great idea for a vid. Franklin is one of the funniest characters ever.
If that owl joke was done on Family Guy, it would have gone on for ten minutes.
You my goodman have a fine taste for comedy. A smart choice indeed.
god i could die laughing, but my favorite scene was his first date .
You'll complain about that but not the old man in a diaper. This line got me busting up laughing.
@4:40 LOL! My god, that entire machine has no purpose, but it's pure hilarity :D
*God
Aww this is missing my favourite one. The scene where Franklin says "If I were a vegtable I'd be a carrot."
1:01 he has a point. Alien 3 was the death of the series.
Franklin Sherman is so funny!
Augh I need to find the clip where he glues the silverware to the ceiling!
All hail Gerrit Graham!
8:56 is my favorite LMAO
I'd love it if you made a video on Jay's "assistant", Ethel
Jay: I'd love to introduce you to her but she just jumped out the window.
Nilknarf!
my fav clip ever was
who
My wife eleanor
who
My wife eleanor
...
08:05 First time I watched it, I didn't catch the book title xD
2:00
How many of us actually wish our first date went down like that?
*raises hand*
Do you mean the girl in the 1st ep of the second season? I forgot her name, but he never married her, they're just dating.
This show is better than the Simpsons
Imagine if Franklin and Pinky ever met...
Hoo My wife, Eleanor. Hoo My wife, Eleanor. Hoo My wife, Eleanor... LOL
why oh why did they cancel this series
It'll be bigger than the badger blaster.
The Roadrunner or Wile E. Coyote?
i've invented the first fish-mo-baby-whirl-a-ma-gig. it'll be bigger that the badger blaster rofl.
I can't wait for 2037.
"now who wants too boogie with baby 37?" ::dances:: BUHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHA
My wife Elanor.
he's saying Elenor
Happy 1937!
Franklin is Jay's adopted father, not his father in law
Who wants to boogie with baby '37?
I am so sure Duke is Jay’s biological father. Every single neuron says so
1:43
now who wants to boogie with baby '37 ?!?
My wife Eleanor
Penguins can't fly. PENGUINS CAN'T FLY!!!
XD
It's not "putts," you putz.
Am I the only one who finds it weird to hear Nancy Cartwright voicing a GIRL in a show?
This is Joe Biden right now
If you've ever seen the Brian De Palma film The Phantom of the Paradise, Franklin's voice actor Gerrit Graham played the glam rocker singer Beef.
also Bud the Chud
thanks for including the "who? my wife, Eleanor" one, it´s my favorite ever
You've been drinking!,... wait a minute... Penquins can''t fly! PENGUINS CAN''T FLY!
Still cracks me up no matter how many times i watch.
Well, the results vindicated him.
His greatest quote is missing from this: "As the first black female head of the Ku Klux Klan, I'd like to say America stinks!" (as an opening statement in a debate for President)
It was Vice President (Duke was running for President).
Shame this was on before social media took off, It would've been a lot bigger...
He is the man other men aspire to be.
I miss this show!!
Oh son, if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: "Who are all you people?"
This show was perfect, with a perfect intro...God damn the people that cancled this show. It was awsome!
"I didn't ask to be Secretary of Balloon Doggies, the baloon doggies demanded it!!"
One of my all-time fav characters.
one of the best shows ever to grace TV. ahead of its time.
THIS GUY IS AWESOME! YOU ARE THE BEST CZcamsR!
I would pick this over Family Guy any day of the week!! I miss this show!
"You are a disgrace to this family!"
Man, that ALWAYS cracks me up!
One of the funniest characters ever
2:41 What really gets me is the music. It's the music that makes me almost die laughing.
I'd like to meet Mister Piccolini.
I'm not wearing pants...I split my pants, and now I'm not wearing pants.
Truly the greatest man of the 20th century.
Franklin always cracked me up! 🤣
He's one of my favorite characters ever.
TAKE THAT, BIRTH OF MAN!!!!!
I freakin' love Franklin!
ha you have to love the look and reaction of surprise jay makes when franklin says his fishmobabywhirlamagig will be bigger than the badger blaster
that was the best Ethel moment.
i've invented the first fish-mo-baby whirlamagig!
Aw, you forgot my favorite, Nilknarf!
I remember laughing for years after watching that!
I was hoping to see "Prison, that was the best 5-10 years of my life!"
The Mr. Picolini joke is the only miss.
Franklin is Crazy Drunk Dad you grow to love ...XD!!!
That'd be funny!
I was talking about when Jay talks to himself, he'll make up a voice & say that he's speaking with Ethel

@Argie87 ...oh wait, it is a nut.
you forget how hilarious the character of franklin was.
Guy was cuckoo
06:49 I just now realized he's reading the yellow pages.
