Yes, I know there is an annoying couple of specs of dust during the 2001 monolith bit. It bothered me, but as we say around here: sometimes "We're not making Avatar" - Robbie
Clean the lens next time you helmet. - Todd
Thank you for clarifying. I watched this on my phone, and kept trying to clean the ever elusive spec. I am so glad I found your channel, top quality content. -New Subscriber
guys ihave learnt alot from you very cheapp

You prolly dont care but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last couple of days :)
Nice job. I have made many flats, they are very useful. Sometimes we make temporary flats that are less engineered than the ones you are showing. At the end of a shoot our temps are tossed. If you are going to continually use and move the flats, the way you are building them is ideal.
also... EXCELLENT Filming and Editing... Love that you took the time to WRITE specific things... that really helps. Thank YOU.
Thanks for creating this video! Very handy for an independent filmmaker.
Great video. VERY helpful! Thanks for making an informative AND entertaining “How-to” video.
Thank you so much - I wish I could add a picture to show everyone the value of this video! - it only took me half a day from shopping and building. Best video ever. Thank you fine Sir
This is very helpful, I been dreaming of starting a Kids show in my spare time. I have space that can be used for temp sets during the week and two rooms we don't use in the church also for more permanent stuff.
I know what id saw half my fingers off if I even attempted this but it was still incredibly satisfying to watch
Great vid man keep it up love it
This was a great video and very informative, thank you.
This intro is hilarious! 4 years later and still good!
This video is super awesome and helpful.
this is amaizing guys
inspiring, thank you!
Great video, thankyou!
To save $$$ use furring strips & drywall screws.
This is 4 the at home style, I have worked at the studios building sets and we wld norm use 1x for the frame and luane or masonnite.
We wld also skim them w drywall mud and sand them, add trim, paint.
If u do the mud just skim the luane really thin like scrap as much as u can off! Easier to sand and saves material!
Totally agree w what this guy said tho, dont fear the flat or feel u have to do it just like this or that, just make a flat background!
Great great video I built 4 and follows the steps closely, excellent results love it !! Could you elaborate on the concept of a Muslin cloth over the set wall, I like the idea of being able to dress the set wIth a certain color and then be able to re use that color. Say for a re shoot or if it’s a generic color that could be used on multiple occasions
Great advice and video, I used to work building and painting sets but cool to see the home version like not in a stage. I make them at home with furring strips which are super cheap 1x3s, like 6 for $12 and use screws if no nail gun. The ones they build in real movies can be built better or worse.
This is very helpful
Love this
Just found your channel! Go Stars! 🤘🔥
Thank you
Awesome video. I will buy the materials today. Just one question, as I want to do this as low budget as possible so this is an option for future projects as well:
Do you really need the wood glue before putting the nails?
How do you make the corners? Do you nail them? Or do you clamp them?
Any advice on adding windows to these sets to punch a light through? Or possibly a future video? Great stuff btw!!
We were thinking about adding windows, but for that, you'd probably need a plywood thicker than masonite to support the window, along with support slats along the back to put it into place. But I don't see why you couldn't add a fake window using metal liners, window trim, and a plastic sheet from the hardware store. Try it out and let us know how it goes, we would love to see if it works out! We might try in a future video! -Robbie
Shutterstock Tutorials Thanks for the reply! Yeah I’ll definitely give it a go!
Thank u
Great flat. How do you put wheels on flat?
There's a dust on your sensor... from 1:11 :)
The way you are holding that hammer was driving me nuts, great video though a side of the sensor dust lol
Where would you hang the nails for the pictures? Like directly into the frame I guess? But then wouldn't that constrain you to some specific places where you can hang the paintings?
I'd recommend using those command strip style hooks if you can, but in all honestly - we just drove nails into the masonite board... probably not the sturdiest configuration but it held just fine.
Are you the Miniac's younger brother? No disrespect...love that guy.
ooof, yeah don't build flats this way, use 1x3 boardsa and luan, my back hurts even thinking about moving these around set.
How much did it cost?
Does anybody have any advice on attaching tiles to these boards or similar? looking to create a shower set that's more accessible than a general shower
you could buy those fake sticker tiles probably
That's what I ended up doing lol
How about the versatility of green screen 🤔
Why wouldn't I use screws???
And what would you recommend to make the ceiling
Noooooooooo! Your top and bottom rails should run the entire length. This creates "sleds" for the flats to slide on. If you build the flat your way, when the flat is slid or tipped over on a corner, it is likely to break apart over time.
take that price of wood and multiply by 3.
Mr Beast before becoming popular
that Dallas Stars shirt is horrendous but great video otherwise 😂😂
NO NAILS>.... Screws... always screws...
Man, you can see the gaps between the flats and even nail indentations.. there must be more to it than this..
Oh dear lord no....on so many levels no.....At least your videography skills are very good and you are entertaining to watch. But Please do not build flats like this. Rails (top and bottom horizontal) should be 4'. stiles (verticals) should be inside of the rails 8' - thickness of material used for rails. Toggles inside of the stiles (4' - thickness of material used for stiles) and toggles should be 2' on center starting at the bottom and going up. (3 toggles in a 4x8 flat) Do NOT wait until the glue dries. Do attach one rail to the skin making sure it is square to the frame. DO square the rest of the frame to the skin once the first side is attached. If you wait till the glue is dry you can't square anything up. If you don't have square frames how can you attach them together? Do attach the skin to the toggles so you don't need the 2x4 on the back. Jacks can be 1x3 instead of 2x4 and using two fasteners in the pieces of the jack will eliminate the need for any other bracing.
Hey Eric, any good video recommendations for building flats the way you suggest?
Could you make a video tutorial? If not, this one will have to do 😬
Those unwieldy imperial measurement units should be abolished!
Why can't those Americans use centimeters and millimeters like (almost) everyone else...?
Apart from that, great DIY instruction. Well done!
Was that a picture of Aaron Rodgers? :p
1:20 That dirty lens is bugging me.
Alternate use: Make a corner using flats then paint it up like an open Christmas card for an oversize yard decoration.
thats bulshit because I see how their connected, What? youre going to cover overething with the paintings?? That's a joke mate
