- Couch Combat is a splitscreen FPS that I made in Unity. I went from practically zero knowledge of game development to scripting, designing, animating, and 3d modeling the entire game, and I faced many problems along the way. This is the entire story of my game's development, from start to end.

Man you're mad for editing 3 hours of content... respect
Thanks, although to be fair it is a compilation of older videos, but I felt they needed a bit of an overhaul and some people like really long videos
it was even more than that when you account what he had to cut out
True
This is an avenger level dev log. Congrats
This is awesome! I love how 2 hours and 40 minutes of the devlog are labeled “Bug Fixes” because that’s very accurate 😂
This is such an insanley well made devlog, congrats my guy on your game
Awesome , I love the details through your journey , I enjoy it ..
“Each frame, the bullets draw a ray cast between where it was and where it is last frame.
The bullet draws a line cast between where it is now and where it was last frame.
If that line cast, yes it’s a line cast, not a ray cast, hits anything, then it calls an event that destroys the bullet and creates particles.
This also completely eliminates the need for bullets to have a collider at all, they just use ray cast.”
So is it a ray cast or a line cast?
I actually have couch combat, its a lot of fun with friends.
Don’t know if you will see this or if your still even thinking about couch combat, but I think a fun twist (could also be a modifier) would be that when characters are killed they enter a “down but not out state” where an enemy would have to throw/push them off the map for them to actually die, and if the character is left in the down but not out state for a set amount of time they get revived… feels like that would add to the fun chaotic mess especially in games with +2 people
Right now I’m pretty much 100% focused on my new game, but I’ll keep a modifier like this could be fun for an update in the future
Well done mate
Awesome!
Wish I wasn’t so late, look fun man 🎉
this video is so good
Holy WOAH. I’m gonna watch this entire thing tomorrow at work.
I've felt the same the feeling there is no game you like so you make your own and from that feeling im working on a high octane shooter because I don't want to pay for ultra kill or just spend money
YO 3 HOURS OF CONTENT
Fun fact all call of duty games released on steam support split screen! (this project is really cool I just wanted to bring up cod)
Nice
"The four corners of a large circle"
very epic
Hey man I was wondering how you deal with situations where you hit a wall and take a lot of time to eventually only make very little progress. I am a musician but hit those walls especially often when I try to complete projects and upload them to the internet with visuals. My projects never took more than 1 week max. so I really would like to learn how to work invested on a project for at least half a year in order to reach more complete and "perfect" results that are worthy of sharing on the internet.
Thanks for the long compilation of your older videos!
Wish you only the best and keep doing what you enjoy! :)
I hit walls like that often, and most of the time, I just kind of keep going. I usually will lose a lot of productivity over these times, but I’m not really in a time crunch so it sort of works for me now and I eventually get out of the rut and become way more productive for awhile
@@ButWhyLevin Then I guess what I am doing different is that I just switch to another project instead of waiting out until I "get out of the rut". I think I'll try to limit my projects to a number of 3-5 then. That still allows me to switch when I need some distance from a problem but I still get projects done since I don't just start endless new ones!
Thanks a lot for you help! You definetely earned the sub and I'm looking forward to watching your progess! :)
You really inspire me to overcome those walls! :D
Make a hat was actually just the bucket
totally accurate battle simulator* not grounds. (just saying, also I love your vids.)
mostly positive on steam im gonna try the demo
hey man, love your content, i have a request if you could...
I'd love to know the difference between visual studio and visual studio code. please:)
lately i been trying to get into VS Code but couldnt help it because visual studio felt more comfortable, even though everyone tells me VS Code is better...
maybe i didnt set up VS Code as i should?
maybe its different from windows and mac?
im on mac by the way, if anyone else can answer me it would be appreciated aswell
thanks in advance:D
Honestly, I just used vs code as it was easy to set up. If visual studio is working better for you, then just use it
THis reminds me of the good old days on fortnite, even though many people relate, none relate to how those were the last memories of my brother, him playing a match or teo with me, and always going to this dusty place (not dusty depot) then to a haunted castle then to another pleasent park, then to polar peak, and unless we gliding to polar peak, we neve made it there, i still havr thr worlds we trained on, but i never learned 😂, it hard having those memories here, but not being able to do them anymore😢
In the small change you see this, how should I start my coding/ game dev journey
I’d recommend to just try to follow a beginner tutorial series over a simple sort of game to make, like a platformer or rolling ball game, and while you’re doing it, try and pay special attention to what the code you’re writing actually does. By far the best way to learn coding is just by making things, so even if it initially feels like you aren’t getting anywhere, just working on anything programming related will eventually pay off. Just stay consistent and willing to learn new stuff and you’ll go far
Big head mode needs to be a modifier 😂
It is!
why does he sound like he is having a stroke in the first episode
nice
Did you use netcode for multiplayer?
The final game ended up being local multiplayer only, so I didn't use anything for online multiplayer
you should add silly walking like the game west of loathing. as an option in player settings
i was sleeping n woke up to this on so ur welcome for the 2 hours of watchtime i guess
the pixilated gradient background you use is killing the bit rate so even at 1080p the video in the center is still bad quality
Yeah, those old devlogs had some questionable editing choices, I tried to improve them, but since they’re like 3 years old, I don’t have the original screen recordings, so I can’t redo them for this video
At 48:18 was your friend playing sprocket
idk what sprocket is, but his username is Spud
damn@@ButWhyLevin
my advices if you want :D - use new free AI skybox becacuse your is little boring. You can add more terrain becasue maps are empty and there is no place to walk or hide.
If steam actually did reject you putting your game they are idiots they’ll let a game that is barely even playable and cost $200 but not again that is playable and cost only $10 corporate logic makes sense
if its multiplayer theres no need for splitscreening it. split screens purpose is for couchplay only
Split screen is multiplayer…
it's called couch combat, it's literally made for "couchplay"
Are you gonna switch to Godot now that Unity is charging stupid fees?
Quick
Make better player models and animations cuz they look like some crap asset flip
fgh
