- This is just a chatty video about my thoughts on clear and metal braces. Since I have both, I'm able to give me thoughts on both. Hopefully this video helps any of you who are unsure on whether to splurge on ceramic braces (probs not but hopefully it does) :)

My main reason for not getting clear braces is because when people see them, they take a second and third look as if they're trying to find something. With my metal braces they know exactly what they are and move on. I don't mind.
Most people didn't know I had braces because mine were clear (I had them for 4 years).
That's because you care about people guessing what's in your mouth. I would tell them: "Yes, I have braces, and they're clear. Can we move on now?"

For everyone saying braces are free in the UK, they're not. You can get braces when under 18 with the NHS but only if you qualify. In other words, if your teeth are bad enough are they free. I didn't qualify for NHS braces even though my teeth were pretty bad meaning I had to pay. They were all different prices. The metal one that she showed on her bottom teeth were £2000, clear ones were £2500 and Invisalign were £3500. I got clear braces.
n a t a s h a As a matter of fact the braces that they think is free is actually paid through taxes. This is why Uk taxes are over the top. But some people think as long as the money doesnt come out their pockets, its "free"

Well for your infomation, when I was 11, i got braces so really It depends on WHERE in the UK you live because you never know it could be different (don't talk if you don't know and have the full explanation)
Oh and btw my teeth weren't that bad it was just the front teeth but you can't just get braces on them 2 teeth
honestly i think the metal braces look better
same, i recently got my top braces on and on the first next month i get my bottoms on, and when they showed me the non metal ones i thought they look stupid :p

You are super passionate and knowledgeable about braces and you really have helped me feel more comfortable and confident with my braces (I’m 23 and just got them and have literally been watching your braces videos everyday lol!) anyways, I just want to say thank you for being you and putting out time to educate your audience. All of my brackets are clear ceramic, and I have rubber bands. Just got them tightened today, and changed the color from bright teal to silver. Was definitely a good choice! Your videos have helped so much, Emma! Thanks so much you are the best ❣️

I just got clear braces a while ago and i’m v glad i did because most people didn’t notice i had them until i told him. i spent a lot of time contemplating on. whether i should get clear or metal, since everyone said the clear ones get dirty, or it’s a waste of money, etc. but honestly, i think that’s all bs. i eat literally everything and so far, nothing has gotten them dirty or stained. i think it’s worth it if you don’t want noticeable braces

Thanks for this video Emma. I was looking at before and after photos for people who wore braces and it amazes me how much more attractive people become after having had braces. I think it changes the structure of your face too.

I'm a working female and I'm 26. I got Damon clear bases as I couldn't imagine getting metal braces. My dentist didn't recommend invisilign to me as well. I think your videos are great!
i just got my braces yesterday! i only got ceramic braces on the top and in a couple months i get regular braces on the bottom, i got the ceramics for free! i’m so glad i saw this video and it really helped me, i’m excited for the outcome!

I originally wanted metal braces but my doctor literally recommended me to get ceramic because there’s certain parts of the metal that are horrible for my skin (I’m highly sensitive to nickel and nickel is in all of the braces) so my orthodontist is applying a clear paste on the metal part and I’m honestly so so nervous. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS!!!

Cool! I had clear braces at the top and metal braces at the top too.
I have had braces for almost 2 years and I'm just saying In my opinion the having "clear" braces does not make a different and you can still tell that you have braces because you have a metal wire going through them weather you have "invisible" brackets or not. But we all think differently I guess.
Yeah I agree! By no means are clear, actually clear/ invisible but they're definitely a lot less prominent that metal. It's definitely a decision that varies from person to person :)

Interesting, I have had many cups of tea and mine haven't stayed yet. I also have the pearl bands. I'm monitoring mine for staining cause that will determine if I continue to use the pearl.

not for me unfortuantly the nhs wont cover the cost for me so we have to pay like 3,000 pounds for the top and bottum which is crazy!

I've had my braces for almost 2 and a half years and I have the damon brackets too. The clear ceramics would have cost an extra $600-700 if I remember correctly but I couldn't be bothered because they were already so expensive.

If I have the option of getting clear ceramic braces on top and bottom, would you recommend that?
Don't stress too much about the braces getting stained I eat pasta and soft drink occasionally and the only thing that stained them was orange curry and sweet potato, just steer clear of bright orange, drink through a straw when you can and chew with your back teeth

This really helped me and I think I’m gonna get ceramic on top and metal on the bottom I have an expander and now ceramic brackets on top and I’ve literally cried every night because I hate the gap and how they look but after seeing you I think you look amazing and I kinda want the best of both worlds too because that seems nicer than what I have now!
My orthodontist charges an extra $200 for the ceramic vs the metal. Also, my change is so severe that he said they would have to change the ceramic constantly due to breakage. I work at a public service window so I am very self conscious about customers seeing my braces. I'm 26.

I've had clear braces on my top teeth since the end of August and I get traditional braces on my bottom in November. Honestly I feel very confident when I smile because you can barely see the braces and many people didn't realize I had them on until two weeks later. I would definitely recommend clear braces to anyone.

I have the same as you, clear on the top, metal at the bottom. I got them on Monday and already see a difference! My orthodontist said I had to get metal at the bottom because the clear material is stronger than your teeth, so if your top teeth knocked the bottom you could break a tooth. I believe it depends on your bite though because my dad has clear on clear.

If I ever had a choice to get braces, I would pick the clear ones 100%. I know they get stained, but I think it's worth it. I prefer them since I'm very insecure and I like to make things less obvious than possible. Braces on other people is super cool, but on me I hate it. That's why I pick clear, it kinda gives the illusion your not wearing any braces at all, only if you look at your teeth in more detail. Plus when I smile it would make me less insecure about myself. My opinion, please don't hate. Xx

I got my sapphire crystal brackets on Monday and omg the pain is real! I salute those who have braces 😥 On a brighter note, they are pretty translucent and I don't even have perfect white teeth. I went to class that same day and my friends didn't even notice I had braces until I actually showed them. Emma, your videos are great and they help me so much you don't even know! Keep them coming girl 😆

i honestly don't mind having metal bc my orthodontist said that ceramic braces take longer to straighten your teeth than metal. also i don't care if people see that i have metal in my mouth, it's not like it's uncommon or anything.. also when i went to get my braces on i never chose between the two
I am having clear braces.. today only i got my braces on. Does it take longer time to fill the gaps.. my problem is more space b\w teeth.. my doctor said it probably takes 15 months
@@swarnalatha561 In general it does take longer but its very situation specific. You might have something very specific wrong in your mouth that your doctor believes would not be hastened by metal braces, in those situations clearer braces might make more sense.
My orthodontist didn't give me a choice for braces, so I had to get metal, which I'm fine about, because that's what I wanted anyway
Definitely agree with choosing a different colour for the ligatures on ceramic braces! I have a clear/smokey white colour and they stained again even though I didn't eat anything crazy pigmented but it's not insanely noticeable anyway. Next appointment ill be choosing a lighter but opaque colour 😎 love the video very good tips!

Wow me a year ago and I’m now half way through with braces! I got the obscure color on top which is a mix of white and clear, which makes the bands on stain, it’s amazing! It’s kind of like pearly blue or what other orthodontist have said! On bottom I have light silver which also doesn’t stain and it blends in with my metal brackets
I'm glad I'm watching these braces videos before I get my braces. I REALLY want to get clear braces or clear elastics cuz I don't want it to be obvious and I don't want to have like, different colours in my mouth or something, it'll feel weird. But now that I know(maybe I knew before but maybe I just forgot) that the clear elastics will stain, maybe I will get the silver ones. Or maybe I'll just ask the dentist or orthodontist or something(Idk what they're called) to see I which elastic won't stain/stain easily. Yep. I think that's what I'm gonna do.
Oh my gosh I can't believe that you don't think you're helpful! That's such a lie! This video was so so helpful for me and my sister. We both need braces eventually and have been weighing the pros and cons of all the different options out there. I had no idea what damon braces were before you mentioned it.....so thank you!! :D
It would look way better with all clear because you can still see all that metal on the lower teeth. I hate orthodontists that do that mix. I have all clear and would not have any other way.
Juliano Mack my dentist told me having clear braces on the under part might break because of the teeth while chewing
I think it would break only if you have overbite like me. But then again, it would also break metal too cause the upper teeth would touch the lower brackets the same way. My dentist put some blue cement on the molars and it prevents that problem
Katie: From what I've seen they're somewhat bulkier than metal yes but not sure if that would make them significantly more prone to breakage. So far I haven't experienced any damage and I'm not very careful with what I eat

Julian Leone That's so stupid. Orthodontists "do that mix" because it's way better for medical/treatment reasons, for most people. Everyone's treatment is different but it's mostly faster and better.

Just wanted to say thanks so much for this video ! I get braces on in two days , I'm 17 but I'm so nervous but this helped me made my choice on what kind I want to get :)
I have clear braces and clear elastics ...but mine are really good quality so they (really rarley) get stained and it isn't really noticable...While my friend on the other hand tried clear elastics (and they were not the same type that I used) ,and they turend into an ugly brown green color quickly although she cleans them really well..I say try clear elastics and see what works and what doesn't because it is not the same for everyone!
The price for clear is crazy for you mine were 300 more and I got them on the bottom too 😱
I know I thought the price I paid was normal but apparently not hahaha! Some people have said they didn't need to pay any extra to get clear so I guess it just depends where you go 😨

Liv Collis honestly, doesn’t hurt the first hour or two. But later on it like at night, it hurts so take ibuprofen right after u get em on. I guess it depends on the person but my second day didn’t bother me that much

a few years ago when i first got braces, i had ceramic cause i thought it would be more visually pleasing, however they stained with coffee and made my teeth appear much more yellow. they also broke very easily. now i have metal and its much more convenient for me

Yes you can, if you watch her braces routine she shows that she uses a electric toothbrush :)
