This prototype of our upcoming North Star scythe ring was tapped with a fine thread that ended up galling due to the pressure the ring so easily generates when clamped (we also had one done in coarse thread, which did not suffer this problem) and rather than let it go to waste we decided to see just how much of a beating this seamless ring could take before it would kick the bucket!
Turns out it takes about 12 solid minutes of merciless pounding with a 3lb hammer before it'll give up the ghost, and only due to metal fatigue. If annealed with a torch or fire about halfway through the beating we imagine it would have gone on much longer!

So.... wait... is this the scythe ring that keeps a scythe blade on the snath?

It's a ring for that purpose, yes. One of our own design. There are multiple methods of affixing blades to snaths, and this was an early prototype of the version we currently use, which is now taller and has an integrated captive bearing plate.
