@@johnnyboy3949 Hey, don't poo-poo those nuggets. At least they feed you something. Most airlines, US ones in particular, feed you only two meals on a flight that long. And even then, it's a second meal that proffered begrudgingly, as if it hurt the US carrier to spend a little more money on you. The second meal, if they offer you one, is skimpy, since they try to get away with feeding you a "snack box," which in my experience, is pretty much inedible. And this is in American/United/Delta's so-called "premium" cabins. Don't knock the chicken nuggets. You're lucky to get them.

azariah15 so is almost every mainline carrier in Asia. Thai, Singapore, Malaysian, ANA, JAL, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, Vietnam and Garuda Indonesia will all give you a full meal service on a two hour flight. And all fares include at least 20kg of luggage. Most even use the weight concept; ie you can take three bags weighing 5kg each or something without having to worry! I did that once by taking 8 5kg boxes when I had 40kg allowance.
So, here in Asia we seem to get the very long end of the stick.

We had an 11 hour connection in Addis Ababa, so we were prepared to spend the night in the airport. Imagine our surprise when, while checking in in Sao Paulo, we discovered that Ethiopian provide a hotel for overnight connections. Not only that, but we would have transfers to and from the hotel, and dinner and breakfast included aswell. The hotel was lovely, a Radisson, and the food was nice. We flew to London the next day, and it was on the 11th of September, which just happens to be Ethiopian New Year! So the whole city had a very festive feel about it, it was very cool.

Ethiopian Airlines is actually very nice. They’re not Singapore Airlines, Emirates, or Air New Zealand, but they’re easily the best African airline and comparable to the international offerings of above average major western airlines.

I'm kind've surprised that there is a direct flight from Brazil to Ethiopia. I've spent some time on Ethiopian airlines 787, economy seats are pretty uncomfortable. Business is fine especially with the new business set up. The flight attendants are gorgeous, I love their traditional outfits some use.

Noel, I was particularly interested in this video as my father worked for Ethiopian on loan from TWA to train them to run their airline. Things of course have really changed there in Addis. When we first flew in there it was on a Douglas DC6B and the airport terminal was basically a shack.

Seasons greeting from Addis Ababa and. I had once listened to an extended interview of Ethiopian Airlines' old timers (pilots, management staff mechanics, etc) on a local radio. They talk about the good times, the hard periods, and especially how strict training, working procedures, business management, and safety were while TWA was helping ET with management. 70 or so years today, ET maintains those old values inherited from TWA and improves them with the changing world situation. One can say TWA was a midwife for Ethiopian Air whereas today ET is becoming like a midwife to several airlines in Africa. It is very sad such distinguished and glamorous airlines like TWA have gone down in history. Happy New Year!

Glad they cleared all that up. Oh and there happened to be a naked guy strolling through the airport. Needless to say, I had an interesting journey through Addis.
