  • Good morning, everyone! Today's vlog is a bit different. I'm here to share the raw and unfiltered challenges I've been facing while building our company, Three Timbers, in a new state. It's been a rollercoaster of experiences, and I want to shed light on the five major hurdles that I never anticipated when embarking on this journey.
    Housing Hassles:
Living in Arizona, especially Scottsdale, has been a bit of a shock to the system. The rent prices have been through the roof, and finding affordable, comfortable living spaces for our team has been a real struggle. I'm currently bouncing between Airbnbs, and let me tell you, it's been an adventure - from unexpected neighbors to questionable luxury apartments. Affordable housing has turned out to be a more significant challenge than I ever imagined.
    Food Struggles:
The constant back-and-forth between states has thrown a curveball into my eating habits. It's challenging to commit to groceries and essential food items when you're always on the move. I find myself relying on the same few eateries just to save time and not have to worry about cooking. The monotony is getting to me, but the convenience seems to outweigh the struggle.
    Office Space Difficulty:
Finding a suitable office space has been no walk in the park. I initially thought working from coffee shops would be a cost-effective solution, but it turns out, I need a dedicated space. The options for affordable and productive workspaces are limited, and the costs are adding up. Balancing the need for a proper workspace with the budget has proven to be quite the challenge.
    Logistical Setbacks:
It's surprising how the smallest things, like forgetting a computer mouse, can become significant obstacles. Managing paperwork, mail, and essential items across multiple locations is turning out to be more complicated than expected. Everything seems to take longer when you're juggling tasks between two states. It's a logistical puzzle that requires constant attention.
Mental Strain of Building in a New State:
Now, let's talk about the mental toll. Building a business in a different state has been, without a doubt, the most challenging aspect. Being away from my usual support system, facing the trials and tribulations of starting afresh - it's mentally draining. The isolation, the pressure, and the constant problem-solving have taken a toll on me. It's a grind that I underestimated, and it's hitting harder than expected.
As I navigate through these challenges, I want to be transparent about the real struggles of entrepreneurship. This isn't a complaint but an honest sharing of the hurdles I never thought I'd encounter. Stay tuned for more insights into this journey, where I'll continue to share the highs, lows, and lessons learned along the way. Thanks for being part of this adventure with me. See you in the next one!
