I think that Christopher Reeve's ability to be both Clark Kent and Superman without turning into a cartoon caricature of either is amazing and underrated. The audience knows he's the same guy, of course, and Lois has her suspicions, but it never comes across forced or contrived when he switches from goofy, lovable Clark Kent to cool-as-hell Superman in a matter of seconds. I came to the realization recently that seeing Superman as a child when it first came out (totally giving away my age, but whatever LOL) started my fascination for tall, dark-haired, handsome slightly mysterious men. He really was born to play this role and Margot Kidder was born to play Lois Lane. I'm so sad that they're both gone from us now, but I pray that they are together, in peace and love.

Clark takes off his glasses, voice changes, body language shifts, starts to tell her, has second thoughts, and reverses back into Clark persona..very impressive. But then, Chris Reeve went to Julliard so..

I was so heartbroken when he died, but then there was that little glimmer of comfort in knowing he was truly free of what had to be unbearable physical and emotional pain, even though he hid it well with the amazing strength and heart he had. I was just as heartbroken when his wife passed shortly after him and wonder if she didn't just sort of give up the will to live so she could be with him. I know she loved their children and never would willingly leave them but when the love of your life dies after such a struggle...well, I wouldn't blame her for wanting to be with him. May they both rest together eternally.

He was always so careful, nothing could tell of what would happen, he barely survived then and there, and I believe for a purpose too. His loved ones needed him much longer, and all those brave ones dealing with handicaps he came to represent as Public figure. But I had never the chance to see him again in person. Missed him way before he passed away. Many millions of people did, not only because his career, but because he was a very likable person.

I think the other does the character of Lois more justice. It was always a little ridiculous, that probably the foremost investigative reporter in the world, couldn't discern Clark from Superman when she was the closest to both. The window jump and the gun in Donner's original version, isn't about trickery, it was about Lois doing what Lois would do, pursuing her hunch, and uncovering the truth. Getting to the real him, and wanting him to be truthful with her. His reaction when she reveals it was blanks in the gun, is just pure admiration for her, which is again exactly right for both characters and their relationship.

I'm torn by this scene, I prefer the Donner version because it shows Lois' resourcefulness with the blanks as opposed to the clumsiness of Clark by tripping on the rug. But the Donner version was a screen test with both actors being distant and almost uncomfortable compared to the Lester version, which had the advantage of time allowing the actors to become closer and familiar. Also there is one thing I believe this version does better, which is to show the vulnerability of Superman. The Donner version Clark was more closed off and judging at Lois for shooting at him, but this version we see Clark in a more open way, not as the bumbling reporter with no friends or the immortal and confident god Superman, but as the real man inbetween those identities. The vulnerable and regretful way he speaks whilst holding his glasses is one of only a few times this character gets to be honest with others and himself, this the Clark who sits on his own in the fortress of solitude hearing the whole world at once and maybe regretting his role as Superman.
