Ask a Mechanic: How to Do a Basic Fork Service at Home

On today's episode of Ask a Mechanic, Daniel will walk you through how to service your suspension fork at home.
The fork featured in the video is the Fox Factory 38 but the same process will work with all other brands of forks (RockShoxs, Ohlins, Manitou, Marzocchi, etc.) Before starting your at home service be sure to check the manufactures specifications to get the correct seal kit and oil necessary for the repair.

Interesting, first time I’ve seen to remove the garter springs before installing lowers onto uppers.

It’s not necessary, but I find it easier to slide the stanchions into the seals this way while ensuring you don’t kink a spring or scratch the stanchion if the spring gets tangled up when lining up the stanchions and seals.
