  • On today's episode of Ask a Mechanic, Daniel will walk you through how to service your suspension at home with basic tools.
The shock featured in the video is the Fox performance DPS (off a 2021 specialized Stumpjumper) - this same process will work with all other brands of rear shocks (RockShoxs, Ohlins, Manitou, Marzocchi, etc). Before starting your at home service be sure to check the manufactures specifications to get the correct seal kit and oil necessary for the repair.

In addition I've had good results keeping the shock covered with something like a Lizard Skins.

I prefer shock fenders that are made specific to a particular bike’s linkage. Boots like the Lizard Skin sleeves can get dirt caught between the sleeve and stanchion, leading to scratches that go unseen until service time.

You can add "clip-on" aero bar extensions to most drop bars.
