Barbie is a 2023 American fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig, who also wrote it with Noah Baumbach.[6] Based on the Barbie fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated direct-to-video and streaming television films. The film follows Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis. It features an ensemble cast, including America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.
Bawaal (transl. Commotion) is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Earthsky Pictures. It stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor as a troubled married couple.
Filming took place in multiple countries from April to August 2022. Initially scheduled for a theatrical release, Bawaal received a streaming release on Amazon Prime Video on 21 July 2023.
Oppenheimer (/ˈɒpənˌhaɪmər/ OP-ən-HY-mər) is a 2023 biographical thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, an American theoretical physicist who was pivotal in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project, and thereby ushering in the Atomic Age. Cillian Murphy stars as Oppenheimer, with Emily Blunt as Oppenheimer's wife Katherine "Kitty" Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves, director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, a senior member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission. The ensemble supporting cast includes Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek and Kenneth Branagh.

People bashing Barbie sound like the victorian critics dismissing anything written by women as non-serious.

Maybe write better, hire smarter and tell a cohesive story instead of broad post modernistic brushstrokes of cringe packaged as comedy?

I hated the product not because it's written by a woman, or has a female lead. It's success is disappointing only because such good talent is associated with it.

At 01:09:50, when Sucharita calls Rahul, I actually replied 'haaa' out loud because I was listening to the conversation while doing some chores. 😂

45:25 Apart from that scene there's one scene that comes to mind which was in both B&W and colour was a roundtable meeting sequence with Strauss and other scientists of AEC. Also the hearing scene where Oppie humiliates Strauss.

It wasn't just India where the Florence Pugh's vfx dress was added into the film for censoring purposes, the same censored cut was also shown in Indonesia, Vietnam and Middle eastern countries.

47:27 the non linear narrative certainly made a 3 hr long mainly verbose biopic of a scientist engaging and interesting. Helped with the pacing and intensity also.

I liked how Oppenheimer likes the dual nature of quantum physics but the dual outcome of Trinity tests terrified him.

Barbie the doll was always a symbol of upper class consumption and western aesthetics - I remember aspiring to it when it was unaffordable but also how desi looking dolls became ugly as soon as i became aware of Barbie, and i felt the desire to be pretty for the first time. The matching clothes, heels, bags, hair, jewellery, makeup - these were too powerful for a child to be able to counter. The image of beauty in mainstream india has also followed that trajectory since the 90s where the faces and bodies of indian women we consider beautiful looks more and more eurocentric and western. No amount of white feminist critique will make up for these issues

I expected Barbie to be more deep, but I guess you guys are right, with Mattel producing it, Greta G couldn’t go that deep and nuanced.

Exactly 🤣..That part should be viral on social media actors and directors should be tagged..Only then they may consider what actually people feel..They are continuously trying to potray it's a normal criticism like Dangal, Chichorre has also gotten..

Oppenheimer is given way too much time in this discussion. The sound design was so poor, just bgm everywhere, where it could have done with just silence. Bhagavad gita reading during sex is the best CN could come with. No addressing of the destruction it caused to Japan, didn't like that the focus of the film is about the accusation of being a communist and showcasing him as a martyr. I mean wtf. Where's the guilt? They just went for him as the God. Overrated.
