    We'll talk about pinning techniques that will make your life a whole lot easier. No more struggling with the bulk of your garment jammed up under your sewing machine-trust me, I've been there. By pinning both sides of your garment differently, you can sew like a breeze and actually enjoy the process.
    But wait, there's more! We're also getting into some trouser hacks. How should you pin your pants for that perfect fit? Well, it's all about positioning, and I'll show you how to make sure your garment lays just right as you sew.
    Side note, shoutout to my daughter's friends' parents who think I'm a weirdo for making these videos 😂

    SD, I just rewatched your video "This Will Be Your New FAVORITE Dress Shirt (EASY Tailoring Tutorial)" and actually decided to try it. I had a number of shirts I liked sitting in the closet but looked like balloons when wearing them (I am a little heavy). I took in the sides per the video (no darts though) and the second shirt I did I took my time pinning it and even used chalk to draw the sew line. I was thrilled to try the shirt on afterwards and the shirt looked sooo much better. I have more to try to perfect the process. Thank you so much for all your videos and instilling confidence in those of us men whose wives are too busy to tailor our shirts. As someone who looks at a sewing machine as another shop tool, I am proud to save another piece of clothing from Goodwill.

    i didn't know that gender role crap was still a thing for some people. all the skills you learn is to YOUR benefit. when i started watching your videos and other videos from different channels about tailoring i was opened to a whole new world when it comes to the clothes i can wear. it's a huge boon for me as the clothes i often buy are too big for me since i'm the size of a hobbit. then there's the slim and athletic build of mine that didn't help my case haha i work in the office, looking nice is always a good thing. even if the stuff you buy is not brand names..as long as it fits nicely it can make all the difference. comfort, movement, etc etc🧐

    Thanks to your videos and other similar channels I have picked up a sewing machine dirt cheap at a thrift store and have butchered a bunch of crappy old shirts so as to get better and do my nice shirts. All my jeans fit my legs, my t-shirts are no longer baggy and I have done one shirt very well. I am pretty pleased with the decision, even if sewing isn't perceived as an "Alpha Chad" activity. People can laugh, I will just smile, knowing how much money I am saving on tailor's fees!

    I would love to see you make a video on how to tailor an Inner jean French inseam from the crotch down to make jeans slimmer. That would be a great video because there are barely any videos showing how to do that on CZcams. I have a pair that I would like to tailor that have that French Inseam. I would love to keep that inner inseem while slimming my pants up.

    I feel kinda strange asking this seeing you’re the reason I began tailoring anyways lol.
    Have you ever considered using an overlock foot & stitch in lieu of the zigg zagg stitch?
    Great content as always. My wife sees me cussing myself out anytime I forget pinning direction 😂😂😂

      @StylishDTailors  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Don’t feel strange at all! I’ve thought about it yes but then I’d be asking the beginner to buy something else in addition to what they already have. I like to keep it simple.

      That particular stitch shows that the foot matters. Too much loose thread without that little bar 😂
      On a Sidenote, my wife has now handed me a stack of clothing to “repair” and a directors chair (seat /back) to make…

    Have you ever sewn a button on with your home machine? Most of them come with a button foot (because it's just a cheap piece of plastic). After you've set up the process it's actually pretty satisfying to lock a button down in just 2sec.

    Stylish D! Thank you sooo much for your content. It has changed my wardrobe forever and has expanded the way I look at clothing. Please hear me out on this, I've been thinking of a project that if you did it would be an awesome video. There is an iconic yellow shirt that Cuba Gooding Jr is wearing in the boyz n the hood movie that I can not find anywhere! If you could make this shirt that would be epic! If not, could you please share some short pointers on how to go about such a project? I've been wanting this shirt since I was a kid and it's very iconic as it's on the cover of a classic movie.

    Honest question: Why can't you pin both sides from the front, but sew bottom-to-top for the left side, and top-to-bottom for the right? Doesn't this solve the same problem, or does it introduce a new problem?

    You were… actually stuffing the whole shirt through on the right… Look, I really don’t wanna deflate this balloon of joy but I’m also a bit stunned to find out that the hack is you realizing maybe it’s inconvenient to put the pins in the wrong direction. It’s cute, really… We all discover new things as we go on this sewing journey and you’re relatively new to it (I may in fact have been sewing for longer than you’ve been alive but I subscribe because there’s always something new to learn) and not enough people sew anymore so you kinda have to feel your way but that just caught me off-guard.
    For my part, I’ve always marked the sewing line with washable pen or pencil, then put the pins in sideways to make them easier to grab as I sew. And yeah… the ball of the pin is always to the side with the least fabric. But I can’t promise that’s faster if you total up the entire process. Either way, I’m delighted that you will no longer be doing this to yourself.

    • @StylishDTailors
      @StylishDTailors  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes thats the problem, where I was stuffing the shirt through thats generally what needs to be done to line those pins up underneath your presser foot. Reversing the sides for the pins eliminates that.
