    Little tip to everyone. Clip the breakaway cable onto the thin part of the jockey wheel handle, this keeps it off the ground and protects against damage. Nice video Phil 👍

    Thanks for yet another great video Phil. I have all the instructions on a LAMINATED sheet of paper which I always keep in the caravan(hitching up on one side & unhitching on the other). Missing something could be catastrophic and having a check-list like this helps a lot.

    A few things I do differently. I always engage the mover prior to unhitching. I also undo the breakaway cable after unhitching. Both woukd act as a brake if the handbrake failed. I also don't fully lower the jockey wheel when unclamping it. I leave it up slightly then wind it from there. Then if when you are leaving site and your car or caravan is lower than when you unhitched you have some play on it to get it lower. Might also be worth reminding people to plug in the mains cable to the caravan first then attach to the site supply rather than the other way round ... saves people walking around with a live cable!

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Iain. Thanks for your comment. Yes I agree with you. I remove the Break away cable in the order shown as I had an issue with it a couple of years ago. Not lowering the jockey fully is a good tip. Yes you should always fit the EHC to the van first. I showed this in a previous video on the Caravan Electrics. Thanks very much Phil👍🙂

    Hi, personally I would leave the breakaway cable till last. That way if the caravan were to roll away from the tow ball after unhitching you have half a chance of catching it (obviously doesn’t help if it rolls into your car 😂). When hitching I’d also add it first.

      My cable was overlong and I damaged it by allowing it to drag on the way back from The Lakes !
      My service guy is great. He shortened it by cutting the damaged section out and putting the plug back
      He also recommended looping it over the swan neck.
      So far .... so good 🤞

    Hi . We pick up our van in few weeks so great to see videos like this . Questions what is a compressed hitch and what is ALCO ?

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Tom. Compressed hitch is the draw bar which has the rubber concertina section. If you remove the tow bar without this section being fully extended the hitch when released will push into your bumper causing damage/dent. Alko is the make of the hitch there are others around but this seems to the industry standard. I hope this make sense. Thanks Phil👍🙂
