My ATC is not going on - Travelling back from Scarborough to Scotland yesterday, I left the 13pin black wire trailing along the ground, eventually stopped to check and it had gone through all 11 wires apart from 2. Managed to cut fresh ends and splice all back together and use insulation tape, but before starting I removed the positive from the van battery then attached after, and it sparked which makes me think I burnt out a fuse on delivering power to the ATC, can you advise where this fuse is? thanks :)
Hi Lee. From what I have found out is, the fuse should be on the fuse board which should be located on the inside front bulk head it is not on the consumer unit. Hope this helps and good luck repairing it. Phil🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan Ok thanks Phil, my caravan is the Swift Challenger SE Grande, so I will pull up all the seat cushions from the door side seating, and the fuse box should be at the bulk head, basically behind the front locker wall. Think I remember them all being like a mustard yellow colour. So are these special number fuses, or will just any car fuse work if one is burnt out, so I can repalace it? :)
@@Lee-zg3gx I’m not sure I would imagine it is a spade fuse. It is 25 amp. If it’s not there check the battery cables it may be there. It depends on who the dealership fitted it. Cheers Phil 🙂👍
Hello Phil, sorry to hear about your fridge issue, hope this won’t affect your holiday, I am sure you will find a solution, thanks for your honest update, 👍👍.
Sorry to hear you’ve had problems hope it hasn’t spoilt your holiday.
Hi Phil. Wow, how bad is that. That's the last thing you need when the heat is a high as it is, mate. Hopefully, the new type you're getting is better than this one. Waiting with anticipation. Cheers Paul and Sarah
Hi Phil, Sorry to hear you’re having problems. Sounds like a faulty thermo switch. Surely they would exchange it. After all the trouble you went to fitting the kit, it’s at least worth a try. I had a message the other day from my friend who is in Cornwall. As you know I fitted this kit to his caravan and he said it’s working a treat. Cheers Rob
Hi Phil, I fitted the kit designed by Dan Trudgian. I had to modify it so it fitted our Swift but it works.
Hi Michael. I am pleased it worked for you. I am looking extracting the heat with my next one. Thanks Phil.👍🙂
There’s a Reich one on eBay for £38, which I guess isn’t bad, but expensive really for what it is. In my old van I had an “Arctic” pc fan that had a temp sensor for speed, the hotter it got the faster it blew. But it was near silent. That was connected to a switch inside the van so I could turn it on or off as required. Not yet had to do that on the new van, but could be one of my weekend tinker jobs 😊
Hi David. Could you send me a link to the ebay fan and i'll have a look. You your new outfit is doing well. Phil👍🙂
Good advice Phil as usual, but fannying about on this one!🤣
Hi. Yes it is not worth half of its price. Going buy a heat extractor fan system I think!. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Thanks for the honest update. These things are not cheap and I certainly won’t be buying one to fit.
You are welcome. If things don't work I will say so. No one likes to waste money especially me. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Thanks Phil, useful advice as always. Value the straight talking honesty too.
You are welcome. I will say whether an item bought or supplied is any good. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Sorry to hear about your problem, give the Brunner fan a go from Camper Happy. We’re in France and fridge is working brilliantly and even though the fan is on automatic and is running virtually all the time we can’t hear it running and we sleep pretty close to it. Fan is great value and I did a video of how I installed it
Hi. Thanks I will look at your video. Back from Holland Spain in a few weeks so I want it work for then. Thanks again. Phil
Great video for the beginners! Thank you !
You're so welcome! There are plenty more helpful tips etc on my other videos. Please feel free to share with your friends. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Rodents and insects will look for a warm place to shelter, particularly in the autumn when it’s getting colder outside, so for the same reason Pest Control businesses are the busiest around October / November, that is generally the best time to check your caravan for any unwanted invaders.
Hi. Yes you are quite right. They look for shelter in the colder mountains months. Also you have to factor in pitching on grass and wooded areas. They are attracted by food we drop or don’t empty from our bins. The measure I have highlighted also work against ants. Currently away and ant invasion so far. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Modern EURO-6 diesels have to have an AdBlue system, with of course a tank for the AdBlue liquid, which of course has to go somewhere, And in many cars, that reduces the size of the fuel tank, which is quite likely the reason why yours is only 50 litres.
Hi yes you are quite right. The salesman neglected to tell me I could have had a larger fuel tank installed at build for not much more 😞. Having said that now the engine has run in a little I am getting a better mpg. I am getting 40mpg when towing which is ok for me. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan good to know, thanks. I just bought a 2017 Toyota RAV4 with a 2-litre diesel, only 30,000 miles on the clock, and it can tow up to 2 Tonnes, Ready for our plans in 3 years from now, towing a caravan. They simply Don’t make cars for towing anymore, even the new Toyota RAV4 hybrid top spec can only tow 800 Kgs……….. You are spot-on; if you want to tow a caravan in the future, get a towing car while you can, NOW.
So how did you jack it up, and how do you bring it down after changing the wheel?
Hi Jane good question once you have set it up as in the video it is the same principle as replacing your cars wheel and then in reverse. Remember it is importance to have caravan attached to your car when jacking up the caravan. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
I've never jacked a car wheel up, so complete novice
Hi Jane it would take too long to explain in words. I will have to make a video on the subject. An alternative would be to join a break down organisation which covers your caravan. Mayday from green flag offers the best policy. Other companies do not have the capacity to tow a caravan and car. Check them out via the caravan club website. Hope this helps. Phil 🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan 0:20 so I've looked on my Jack instructions and it says to bring the Jack down I turn the knob on the front of the Jack

Good morning. Please know the temperature of the thermal switch that comes with the kit. or even the reference recorded on the thermal thermostat. It would help me a lot. thanks.
Hi the temperature of the switch was not disclosed in the kit. Personally I think it is a waste of money. I am away and it is very hot and the fan has not kicked once. I would buy titan fan kit from Amazon which extracts the heat. Cannot send a link as I am on my phone. Hope this helps. Phil 🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan Hi, I can talk, I just made my adjustment after seeing this and with a digital temperature reader and a digital thermostat I can make it work at the desired temperature and it turns on and off ok. I have the refrigerator at half power and it is -20 degrees Celsius. Important NOTE I had to put a switch to turn it off at night because of the noise that bothers me when I sleep and others don't.
Hi thanks for letting me know. Mine has failed to work at all despite adjusting the temperature. I will be seeking an alternative when I get home. I am sharing my thoughts in Sundays video. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Looks well made but can't see the point when you've already got storage for awning etc in your boot , lockers or in your caravan without needing to spend £40. Also from your description, it only holds a small/medium awning
Hi yes I understand your point. The idea really is if your awning bag is buggered then this can replace it. They do make a larger bag for bigger awnings which is not much more in cost. The idea behind the video is to show what is out there from uk companies. I feel it is important to support our uk firms otherwise everything will be bought from china and other countries. I hope this makes sense. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Thanks Phil
I fitted a fan but it burnt-out the element think it pushed it to far
Oops I hope you managed to get it fixed. I am looking at something a bit better. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Hi Phil. Great idea to carry everything in one bag. Looks very strong and steady how well do you think the zip would fair because some bags can be strong but the zips let them down. Great idea tho. CheersPaulandSarah.
Hi Paul thanks for the mention on FB. Good question. The zip is quite strong but time will tell. Using it at the moment. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Thanks for the helpful video. We've just added an Eriba Puck to our fleet, and it's very different to our self-sufficient campervan.

We have one for our 5m sun canopy - brilliant bag - highly recommend 👍
Hi Shaun. Currently away using it now. Help save space when packing the car. Thanks Phil. 🙂👍
Looks well made Phil, I need new bag for my waste water container 👍
Hi Colin yes they are very well made. There are different sizes for many applications. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Yes looks well made but why spend on a bag when it's not needed...just rinse your waste water container out after use and put both screw caps on...no need for a bag?
Cheers Phil 👍.
Thanks BB. Something different to show. Cheers Phil 🙂👍
Thanks for the tip in regards to the pencil, after about three attempts where trying to insert using the pencil I realised the o ring would turn to either side each time I found a quicker way but still using the pencil I re inserted the old friction pad and then teased to o ring in with the pencil so it was up against the old pad within the hole then carefully kept teasing the o ring with the pencil all around the o ring whilst very slowly moving the pad backwards until I was next to the groove - I checked everything was ok after pulling out the old pad with a torch placed within the ball hitch recess - hey presto about a minute once I’d sussed this method
Hi Eamonn. I am glad you managed it. I can be a faff until you sus it out. Enjoy your Summer. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Thanks Noorman. I think buying the Carplan cleaners in bulk does save money over a period of time. I am on my second crud buster this year. Many thanks Phil.👍🙂
Good video. The ads say it has a built in groundsheet but you haven’t mentioned it. Does it have a built in groundsheet?, thank you
Hi Gareth. Thanks for your question. I don’t know who is saying it has a built in ground sheet. This not true it comes with draught skirt but no carpet that’s why I didn’t mention it. The carpet in the video is mine. Hope this helps. Thanks Phil 🙂👍
Hi Phil another brilliant video, I’ve been working my way around my caravan using a couple the Aldi products for black streaks and for the windows, good results. However one thing that I did come across was 3 lines of scratches on the side window which I have rubbed across some overgrown bushes when last towing. Remembering one your previous videos, I used T-Cut and the scratches disappeared. Your tips are great please keep them coming…. All the best 👍
Hi Joe Thanks for your lovely comment. It is comments like this that make me continue with my Channel. Thanks again. Phil.👍🙂
Thanks for the info good video Phil 👍😃
Thanks Simon. Cheers Phil👍🙂
Hi phil. I do use some of those products already and must agree with you that they work perfectly. Wheel cleaner high wax brilliant 👏 thanks for sharing. Paul and Sarah
Hi Paul. Thanks. The Crud Buster is great fro green nasty bits. Carplan also make a tyre shine which is good too it doesn't leave a sticky mess when applied. Thanks Phil.👍🙂
You have a great assortment of products there Phil 👍. In your line of work I guess you need only the best ! I just use plain water and microfibre cloths to clean our caravan exterior but I think after 11 and half years our Glamour Shield paint protection isn’t quite as effective, even though it’s stored in its garage. I have to polish out the annoying odd black streak after a rainy holiday. It’s worked a treat on the soft furnishings and carpets though. Cheers and best regards, Rob & Gail 😀
Hi Rob n Gail I hope you are both well. I often wonder about ceramic coatings but having read another comment on this video I may look at another product instead. Shield protection coating can last a longer time if applied properly in the first place clearly yours was. Thanks Phil.👍🙂
Cheers Phil 👍.
No Probs BB. Thanks Phil.:)
Hi Phil Thanks for the video. As an AVID car detailer and caravanner here's a few things i do.... Caravan dealers typically charge £500ish to ceramic coat your (new) caravan however... once you've cleaned your caravan give it a rinse with GYEON WET COAT. This adds a protective ceramic layer to your caravan with extreme beading so it stays cleaner for longer. You can buy it for around £10 simply spray on your cleaned caravan and rinse off...no wiping..repeat about every 3 months...longer lasting ones are readily available now. You also missed the tures...which can crack with sunlight and look poor when dirty ...again a ceramic tyre dressing takes no time to apply and protects the rubber from those UV rays and water beads straight off. Alternatively there are products which add a ceramic coating which last longer eg Autobrite Hard Coat but these need to be sprayed on and wiped off as opposed to spray on and rinse with the Gyeon Wet Coat Re the acrylic windows...i use Autobrite Vision Plus which can be used on acyrlic windows...again it adds a ceramic costing so dirt and water bead off leaving no water spots...great on car windows to ...dont even have to use wipers (disclsimer ...i dont recommend not using wipers..LOL!)...you can also use it on shower screens and interior glass Thumbs up and looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for your detailed comment. When you clean as many vans as I do sadly the Gyeon Wet Coat although great costs too much and folk will not pay for it. I have ordered the Autobrite Vision Plus for my own and will give it a whirl. On the car I tend to use Rain-X but I will try the Autobrite Vision Plus. many thanks for your product tips. thanks again Phil. 👍🙂 PS I highly recommend the Crudbuster.
Hi Phil. Thanks for the info. Will give some of the products a go. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi Paul. No problems. I highly recommend them all. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Loving your videos mate, just a quick question I was always under the impression that you’re supposed to use the correct cleaning products for the caravan i.e. car wash car shampoo can eat into the silicon because they’ve got different chemicals in. Is there any truth in that.
Hi Mike good question. The Car Plan Shampoo is quite mild but effective as is the wax rinsing agent. I have used this on my own van for years and have had no issues what so ever. Most Caravan Cleaning product are car cleaners with a different name and price. It is more down to the end user. Also no pressure washers though. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Just make sure the shampoo is pH neutral...a ceramic car shampoo is best as it adds a layer of SiO2 ceramic protection to your caravan and you can get these very reasonably now
@@Mike-ip8hg the main thing is to avoid abrasives and acidic cleaners which will damage you caravan and silicone seals. Caravan Magic products are specifically designed for caravan care as they are non abrasive and ph neutral- and can therefore be used on cars and motorhomes too.
I have just used Jennychem caravan cleaner for the first time to say I’m impressed is an understatement.
Caravan Magic! Great choice Phil! Zoflora- we use for a clean fresh smell in our toilet block on the caravan site, although we use Caravan Magic power cleaner to disinfect 100%. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching. I told you I use crud buster. You will have to send me some Caravan Magic Power Cleaner and I will give it a go. Many Thanks Phil.👍🙂
@@lostweekendscaravan on its way! 😊
Hi Phil I’ll give the alloy wheel cleaner a try 👍
Hi Colin it is very good. I don't use it on black painted wheels. There Tyre Slik is good too as it doesn't leave a sticky film. Thanks Phil.👍🙂
there is a new version?
Thanks Paul. My video is a few years old now. Maybe an update is due. Thanks Phil 👍🙂
