- Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the biggest games to ever be released, with around a decade of development and a bucket load of hype. It's set in a near future where technology has advanced to a point where it is vital for everyday life, even being integrated into people's bodies as body enhancment tech called Cyberware. I take a look at how close we are to the technology of Cyberpunk 2077 - specifically looking at some of the most advanced bionic arms and legs in 2020 and what they could lead to...

Would you swap out a limb for a stronger bionic version? Super jump or super strenght? Or something else...?
Please i want to see a video about the other technologies in the game.
@@martinvasilev6099 I guess I'll have to do just that then!
@@TommoCarroll i thought myself what if when the neuralink comes into everyone's life(in my opinion this will happen in the next 10 years max) can i like, instead of merging just with an AI, instead i merge with a computer digital version of myself and in that way will I be like 2 times smarter and will i make the best friendship possible.
They asked Kurzgesagt for a video!🤯
With a bit luck maybe they will work with you too
@@TommoCarroll Videos covering the current state of the art for restoring vision and auditory function would be welcome :) .
Yeah you should do some more vids on this!
Any tech in particular?
@@TommoCarroll I’m thinking the facial and the ;) other one
@@TommoCarroll maybe like an update video which goes more in depth cuz it’s been like 2 years
@@CrokyBoiEditz woah, those 2 years have flown by!
@@TommoCarroll more like 1 year and 3 months but whatever
People rewatching this in 2077: oh how wrong they were.
People in 2077: *Even more advanced*
Remind me this comment after 76 years
Even the physics in 2077 are drastically different.
people watching this on their iPhone 69
Prosthetic development will probably be quite descent at that time, especially when it comes to better energy sources and higher quality technology
It wouldn’t be a neon hyper world but it could lead up to a somewhat advanced world
...or everyone’s gonna go crazy due to politics and corruption, but the chances of that is only like 1000000 times more likely to happen
Super interesting video!
Really high quality, I don't even feel like I'm losing my time on the internet
Good job
That's actually the perfect resoibse ti a video of mine, thanks so much! :)
@@TommoCarroll that’s pretty much all your videos. I noticed that since the rebrand you work more jokes into the videos, that makes them better too. These are great man
2077 isn't that long away, but it's just as far away as 1963, and stuff has changed a lot since then
Exoskeleton sounds more appealing since I wouldn't have to lose any of my own limbs to operate it.
I'd like to see a video about machine sensory (seeing, hearing, touch etc)
Yeah replacing limbs seems pretty pointless, I can only see it being a thing for amputees or people with deformed limbs
iron man intensifies i guess
Yeah, this is what I think every time the idea comes up, all the benefits with none of the amputation.
Yeah that could help people who have lost their limbs it definitely would help me I have a damaged leg i can barely walk but I think those who have lost a limb take more priority
Yeah, but since it has to be of considerable size and has to be encasing the user, it will be clunky, and make you quite clumsier
TL;DR: 57 years
This is a joke, please still watch the video, it's really interesting
That camera motion when you picked up the empire state building with kingkong. Damn Tom. Production value is so,so good.
Definitely need to see more of this. Kiroshi eye implants and bionic organs could be a whole other video.
Technology like this is my number one favorite topic. It is SO FRIGGING COOL and I find it incredibly exciting! Any future videos like this I will definitely watch. I'm glad you addressed the part about the body strength needing to match the bionic strength...I was picturing people getting their arms ripped off in that clip you showed of someone forcing a door open.
When bionics become part of everyday life, if that happens, I insist on sound effects ;)
Sorry to see such a low view count. This is cracking content Tom! Even if the algorithm doesn't think so. 🤦🏼♂️
Cheers Andrew, I appreciate that! I’m starting to think the algorithm has something against me....
Aha! Kidding, I’ll just have to keep on uploading and hope something takes off like the SpaceX video again!
I have really been enjoying your content as of late. Informative, well presented, beautiful editing / motion design and great lighting in your shots. Thanks.
Thanks for saying that Cornelius! I really appreciate it :)
I’ve been enjoying making lots and lots more recently, and there’s soooo many new videos coming! Hopefully soon they’ll find a nice audience and this community can grow
@@TommoCarroll indeed. I wish you all the success.
I appreciate the dash of comedy shown in those clips with educational introduction about the field of technology. In which, also displays the genuine concerns and cracks(literally and figuratively😂) about partial body enhancements. It makes learning so much more fun.
Aside from that, just think about it! Back then, keyboards(typerwritters) were meant for people who suffered from amputated limbs, now everyone's using it because of it's convenience and efficiency to allow people to getting things done in a rapid pace.
I can definitely see how people all over the world would also equip themselves with body enhancements that were initially designed and are meant for people with amputated limbs in the near future.
From body disabilities to full body enhancements, simply mind-boggling!
Thank you for creating awesome video contents that makes learning a fun activity to tackle with!👍
Oh hey! Another person who spent far too long learning to spin a pen, for the sole purpose of flexing. Nice.
I have to say I’ve been watching your channel for a week or so and your videos are amazing one of my favourite channels already, you’re one of the few who spread hope for a positive and exciting future
Nice video! Keep it up 100k isn't too far away
Hey Tom have you ever considered making a Discord server? It would be a cool way to congregate a community of people passionate for sciences!
I like this idea!
I think that a telegram group would be better at the start
@@willy4170 Yeah that could work too
Incredible video as always! Hope for the future!
Hi Tom , nice video mate , entertaining and educational ,
I would love to see some more vids related to this ... maybe
eyes next , any modification with eyes is the coolest imo
I’ve seen a lot of people ask for bionic eye ideas. Really surprised they’re such a big deal to people. But I’m 100% on board to make an episode about bionic eyes because they’re pretttttty sweet!
Just 56 years... Most of us will be alive in 2077...
Another nice video Tom! You got me interested in something I didn't ever actually look up myself.
Oh and also I think cochlear implants and other such procedures for restoring or even giving senses are just as cool and might fall roughly into this category of artificially enhancing the human body
Just a comment to let you know that, right now, Tom needs roughly 300 subscribers to have the nicest amount of subscribers that you can have
The stars will have aligned perfectly when that happens
That helicopter clip 😂
Haha dude I actually forgot I put that in there! That was a nice little giggle reminder aha
Aye yo this is fire pls do more vids like this
I'd love to see you do more videos on bionics. Eyes next!!!
Would I swap one of my limbs for a bionic one? Only if one of mine was damaged. But this is fascinating! Could you do a video on artificial eyes and/or eats
Awesome work - Keep on this thread!
I really wish to know if the bionic eyes and senses like ears are possible in the future.
Bionic eye video coming soon!
Would love to see more videos on this topic
Great content, as always 👍👍
Thanks Danu!
This videos great it deserves millions of views I would love to see another one!
Great video! Well done.
The biggest issue I see with bionic limbs is getting the materials science magic just right so that you have something that is both biocompatible, but more functional than the original limb
edit: btw, what is your filming gear/setup?
I 100% agree. I have no doubt the actual tech of the bionic limbs will just get better and better, but if we can't figure out truly how to attach things to our body without either a risk of infection or a risk of our body rejecting them then it is pointless!
Gear: GH5, Olympus lens, single LED panel.
OMG an exoskeleton with wings would be so cool! I've always wanted to be able to fly 🦅
Yeah, If the cube-square law would allow it
i think another video about another piece of biopunk 2077 technology would be cool, i havent seen what the game is like so im not sure what other things are included, but it’d be interesting to see. The robotic eye thing caught my attention.
Would definitely love to see more
Only issue with prosthetic limps is the bandwidth. The speed at which the prosthetic can receive muscle or brain signals and then translate it to movement is too slow. That's also because of the limited information you can get from EEG devices and muscle twitches. As soon as BMI or BCI is available commercially where it can read and write thousands and eventually millions of signals to and from the brain, then these prosthetics will surpass organic limbs.
A video about the nervous system or frontal lobe cyberware would be great
It looks like a lot of people are keen for a bionic optics video, you keen for that too?
@@TommoCarroll Yes, that's also cool
7:09 this is exactly why I don't understand the winter soldier's "superpower"
Winter Soldier and Captain America are enhanced soldier, they have super strength and durability.
got me remembering that scene in robocop where they took him apart and all the bits were still moving
am leaving with prosthetic leg and this topic really make me feel good man God bless you
we are nearly there interms of legs which are better than natural... however arms still are a long-shot
And about over the top powers of bionic limbs: it only needs to be slightly better than normal, and presto'
Yep, little improvements are still improvements!
Love the content!
wow im actually doing a huge group essay on technology like this and im writing about prostetics!
I think that, for a while, bionic limbs will stay solely on people who lost their natural limbs, and people who just want power will use exoskeletons. We'll only start seeing healthy limbs being replaced when the neural and physical connections become absolutely seamless.
I also think that we'll see bionic organs on people, and more people will use them, as the impact of a replaced organ on someone's experience of the world has the potential to be lower than that of a replaced limb. We may see more people eager to replace their healthy but clogging heart with a bionic heart than people willing to replace a healthy limb.
This is a new channel my dude hope it goes well
More please as we are heading that way as it is
It’s comforting to me, knowing that if I was ever in some horrible accident, that would permanently detach one of my limbs I’d still be able to live a relatively normal life and make some pretty kick ass Cosplays.
Check out Open Bionics out of England; they make an incredible prosthetic video. Tilly Lockey is one they made arms for based on the movie Alita: Battle Angel. She went to the premiere and James Cameron presented them to her. My granddaughter is missing her right arm below her elbow so has a limb difference. We will check on prosthetics down the road when older
Yes in theory it could lead to bionics that are not reminiscent of human bodyparts.
Even Spiderman touched on this ages ago when it created Dr Octavius.
Recently in the last decade "The Dungeon Master" also touched on this, basically the premise is that instinct and the presence of certain limbs since birth are just shortcuts to learning how to use them. So giving an exoskeleton with wings or tentacles, or even multiple legs to a human wouldn't be an insurmountable challenge. Now we just have to wait to see if its possible in practice.
I really liked it. Do more!
Sarif was right about one thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable... but will the outcome always be good? I guess that will depend on how we approach it. These past few months, I was challenged many times, but more often than not, didn't I try to keep morality in mind, knowing that my actions didn't have to harm others? Time and time again, didn't I resist the urge to abuse power and resources simply to achieve my goals more swiftly? In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people along the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always been striving to be. We might as well get good at it.
- Deus Ex Human Revolution
Tell us more about exoskeleton which work like crutches without too much tech involved. this should be good for old people who have weak bones and just need some kind of a crutch to walk
Well the Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain arm is now available - albeit without the remote control rocket powered fist detachment.
Yes show more
This is freakin dope
How do you customize it, i cant find it anywhere online
Can't wait to become Jetstream Sam
how much bionic hand cost and where fix it.plzzz tell and hlp me plzzx
I'm absolutely thrilled to see this cuz I'm a disabled cyberpunk enthusiast. I'm concerned that this tech is still inaccessible for anyone alone on disability. Not everyone has family to help them and bionics are all about independence! But first we need financial independence. Campaign for higher Disability checks so we can afford the joy of new cyber gear!!!!
Freaky - I had a dream last night about losing my right forearm and having it replaced by a cutting-edge prosthetic that could be controlled by nerve impulses, and that sent tactile feedback back through the nerves so I had a limited sense of touch.
I still have both arms, thankfully, but I have a degenerative neurological condition that is causing me to slowly lose sensation in and control of my hands (and legs and feet). I guess I’ve been thinking about losing my hands a lot recently, hence last night’s dream.
Anyway, I really enjoy all your videos! The topics are always interesting, informative, and fun. And I’m still jealous of your lanky fingers.
Bro you had me on wings
Very Cool
Yes! I’m super interested in bionic eyes and contacts.
Awesome! Video coming in Feb :)
Early AF bro. Excited to watch
Yeah you are! Cheers Jason :)
Tom: finesh!
I would love more!
lowkey if we get to cyberpunk level bionics I wanna get them
It's soo inspiring !!
continue with the robot parts my boy
The thing I'm waiting to see what will happen with genetics this next century... we could start seeing some pretty freaky stuff.
The ethics of it will be more limiting than the technological side
69K subscribers. NICE
Very cool…but what about infection? Those attachments have to bridge the gap between the bionic limb and internal sensory functions. Our bodies are not meant to adapt to something like this and may reject it. I think this is really cool and I’m always interested in what’s coming next, however I worry about infection when it comes to implants.
ill amputate my own arm the second a bionic arm can work near identical to a normal arm.
Imagine if “Cyborg Gladiator” becomes a job in the future.
Will they be able to rip out damaged painful nerves and replace them with bionic cables?
Okay time cut my arm off and buy a bionic limb. FUTURE!
I'm in the mood for bionic speed

@@TommoCarroll YAAASSS!
Even wings you got to be kidding me
cool stuff. i was wondering why all these 'most advanced prothetics'-videos are already 5-7 years old.
but yeah, why would u want a arm that 'just imitates a natural human arm without any upgrades? so that should be the way to go.
Riding the wave:)
Attempting to!
Man... i am going to be 83 by 2077, so I hope tech can get as good as in Cyberpunk :D
Your bones are actually strong enough to support a ton of weight. A strongman in vegas used to support the weight of a car on top of him while in a bridge pose, so its very possible to not be crushed. I’m looking forward to being able to replace my left arm for something stronger. Still need my right arm for pleasure if you know what I mean.
This video deserves way more views, what the hell youtube?
From the moment, I understood the weakness of my flesh.
I want an exoskeleton to attach to my column, that would fix its natural problems.
Engagement!
Daww thanks! :)
People have already started 'biohacking' themselves, inserting technology like magnets, antenna and chips to gain extra skills or powers.
Pretty soon we'll have our first infoslave skulls online
7:28 why would you want super strong force ? do you want to stop a train moving ? that would certainly destroy and crush a perfectly good train even if you could survive and actually do it
thanks for helping the challenged . and tough disabled. recover. keep the faith.
Kept us waiting, eh?
All I'm excited for is wings
Man when everybody realizes that we ARNT supposed to let our heals hit the ground first when walking all these bionic leg companies are gonna have a tough time
0:09 okay but aside from the part of it becoming part of us wouldn't you use that to describe your current life
