    The man who ruined Kobe’s numbers and you can tell he’s tryna make excuses for it. He’ll never say anything bad about Kobe because he’s done enough damage.

      I agree Harris was there for a young Kobe, but when the Lakers parted ways with Del Kobe was still pretty young by the time Phil took over. If you listen to the interview Kobe was very raw when he got to LA, and just worked his butt off to get to level he was at, that we all know.

      dw much about the numbers, Kobe got an argument for being the most skilled player in NBA history. Learn not to worry what people think about them, people now probably some younger fans the most put a lot of emphasis on statistics because they didn't see these players play, but really what matters is that you know they were great, you know they worked hard and wanted to win.

    I remember watching Del Harris on the ROckets, my dad took me to all those games, thanks for sharing.

      The Rockets were a little bit before my time, but it is amazing to hear him talk about Moses Malone as well in his career. You may not realize but he coached Moses twice when Moses rejoined him on the Bucks. Pretty crappy that Del got the boot from LA after having winning seasons. Thanks for watching and Happy Collecting!

    So this is the guy that stunted Kobe’s development for the first 3 seasons of his career.

      Connor, thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the interview talking about Kobe. Not often do you get to hear/see an interview about someone who has been in basketball for so many years.

    It is not the video, its me. It is very hard for me hear and understand what he is saying. It was so so sad when he died. I dont even collect or like basketball but know of Kobe at least lol So young and such a great career going. I still kept the video on so it was watched. Thank you for sharing this. It is like a behind the scenes look into part of Kobe's life.

      I thought a lot of people would enjoy hearing/seeing this video. Del was kind of enough to tell me it was ok to share this with everyone on CZcams. I actually have another one coming up with some Del content where compares the movie Hoosiers and the actual real team from Indiana. Thanks for watching and Happy Collecting!

    The pathetic legacy of Del Harris is that he will always be known as the coach who intentionally benched Kobe Bryant for almost 3 years. Kobe said he was still pissed off about it in an interview just weeks before his death and wondered what his career number totals would have been if Del Harris had actually let him play. Del is all excuses here and he looks like a joke.

      Well I had a chance to sit in on this interview, I was not the one doing the interview but aside from his Kobe story he did have some insight in the history of basketball as an Indiana native. This was only part of what he talked about that day. Thanks for taking the time to watch however and comment.

    He was starting Jerome Kersey over Kobe his first year all you have to do is look at the per 36 number to see Kobe would of averaged 18 4 3 a game compared to kersey who would have averaged 10 2 2 in per 36 minutes. But Kobe did play amazing in the first round with a ts% of 67 but played horrible against the jazz shooting 31% from the field on overall that year shooting 38% from the field. With per 36 he would have averaged 20 a game in the playoffs but on 38% shooting compared to jersey 48% shooting.
    In Kobe 2nd year Rick Fox was starting over him, with per 36 Kobe would have been 2nd in scoring with 21 a game, compared to Rick fox 13 a game but more efficient. But in the playoffs it was the same he played well until he played the jazz where he shot 37% from the field. Went 0/7 for 3 for that series also.
    But at the end of the day it worked Lakers won 56 and 61 games both years only thing that you can truly get mad about was that it messed up Kobe career stats.

      Thanks for watching I say and watched Mr. Harris discuss this, agreed or not agreed with his methods he still has the facts of he coached one of the greatest players ever, agreed in maybe his development wasn't as quick as Harris wanted, but Harris does talk about how hard Kobe worked to get to to become the player he was. Thanks for finding my channel and watching I do appreciate it.

      One thing to take away from this interview you do have to agree, is Coach Harris does talk about how hard he worked to become on of the greats. Thanks for watching!

  • @sincityquinn
    @sincityquinn Před rokem +5

    Kobe would have scored so many more points and would have developed far quicker if it wasn’t for him. Then at the end, Mike D’Antoni screwed Kobe over to with his stupid offense.

    • @rchamp247
      @rchamp247 Před rokem +1

      100% agree that Del screwed Kobe over stat wise and development wise. Kobe was clear starter material by his second year and Del refused to give him the minutes he deserved and start him. He refused to start Kobe in his 3rd year too but had no choice because the starting guard was out with an injury. Also in that 2nd year, Kobe was a clear winner for 6th man of the year. Surprised the NBA chose someone worse for it.

    • @RememberTheGreatsSports
      @RememberTheGreatsSports  Před rokem

      Well if you look at it another way Harris did ultimately lose his job, as for D'Antoni I barely remember his tenure there as most Lakers fans do. I think overall the big problem was when Kobe showed up in LA he had Eddie Jones blocking his way, both essentially were the same body type and player at that time and just like whatever profession you might be in you're going to go with the proven vet before a teenager. I think Del would probably tell you, he didn't know what he had at the time, and I don't think anyone did except Jerry West. Thanks for sharing your comments I am glad you found my corner of the internet, I am glad you enjoyed the interview as it was a great pleasure to see this in person.

    • @rchamp247
      @rchamp247 Před rokem

      @@RememberTheGreatsSports Thanks for responding! I definitely understand that Eddie Jones is clear starter material. However, I feel like Kobe was better than him by the 1997-1998 season. Coach had Kobe on a big minutes restriction and gave Jones lots of minutes, and Kobe’s production still matched Jones that year. He was also an all star. It might have just been a part of Del’s coaching philosophy at the time that young players should always back up the older ones regardless of what’s going on.

    Lakers were trying to win, not worried about Kobe’s one on one skills or ultimately his scoring numbers. You had a prime Shaq. Learn how to feed Shaq and d up is how he could have secured his minutes. Get the playing time and slowly unleash your game. He probably was like Bones Hyland for Denver. We don’t need all that.

    • @RememberTheGreatsSports
      @RememberTheGreatsSports  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for watching, you have given some good insight into his career. A lot of people as you can see from the comments want to rip Del for his time with Kobe, but as Del pointed out Kobe was just a kid when he coached him like Moses Malone, they grew into bigger players over time. Del told me off camera he missed Moses as they were close even leading up to his death.
