What am I not understanding? What is the reason this guy is covering up the hold down T-Tracks? I thought the particle board between the tracks is the wasteboard.

Some like t track, some do not. This video is for demonstration purpouses.

then a cutting (leveling) pass to ensure the surface is level to the bit path (which is why the line depth and width may have varied) -- and the waste board smaller than the cutting range assures the leveling pass covers the leveled cutting area

That'll be in the next video :P

I am looking for some help on how to ensure my machine and wasteboard (t- tracks) are square. Currently sitting with a parallelogram where my tiled cuts are not lining up correctly. Any advise? wanting to take mine apart and re-assemble.

Some talk about this on forum.onefinitycnc.com

What's the purpose of cutting the wasteboard 1/2" shorter than the max cut?

I would assume Onefinity did to ensure they could surface the whole wasteboard.
In my experience it's not necessary because a surfacing bit usually has a 1" cutting diameter, so at maximum cut size it'll overlap by about 1/2" on all edges.

So as to not run into x y out of limits warnings.
