This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Ford maverick Hybrid, the North American Truck of the Year and the most fuel efficient pickup truck you can buy! Ford Maverick, the North American truck of the year! Not only is this hybrid fuel efficient, but also affordable. We are driving the XLT hybrid in Hot Pepper Red, which is the top trim in Canada. The Ford Maverick is versatile, practical and great for someone who wants the utility of an open bed without having to drive a large pick up truck. It gives you the best of both worlds, compact on the outside and spacious enough on the inside. The Maverick offers a 4.5-foot bed with 1500 pounds of payload capacity. It can tow 2,000 pounds but with the optional tow package available on the 2L Ecoboost AWD model; it can tow 4,000 pounds. The Ford Maverick Hybrid comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with a hybrid system is matched to an ECVT with a combined 191 horsepower, FWD only. In Canada, the hybrid powertrain is only available on the XL and XLT models but in the US, it is available on all models including, the top Lariat trim. The second engine option is a 2L Ecoboost with 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD and AWD options are available. In Canada, it is available on the XL and XLT models, standard on the Lariat.
The Maverick hybrid gets incredible fuel economy; it’s rated at 5.6L/100 km, 42 MPG city and 7.1L/100km, 33 MPG highway. But, we are actually getting 5.3L/100km, 44 MPG in the city, which is impressive. The Ford Maverick hybrid comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, a 4.2” instrument cluster, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual driver and passenger seats, a black Onyx Cloth interior, power door locks and power windows, remote key-less entry, keyed ignition, LED headlights, Flexbed system, 17” wheels and a full-size spare tire. The Ford Maverick Hybrid XL starts at $27,750 CAD/$19,995 USD, XLT $30,350 CAD/$22,360 USD and the Lariat $25,860 USD. The 2L Ecoboost FWD XL model in the US starts at $21,080 USD, XL AWD $29,350 CAD/$24,385 USD, XLT AWD $31,950 CAD/$26,750 USD, Lariat AWD $35,400 CAD/$30,250 USD.

I bought a Maverick almost identical to this one. It is the same color (hot pepper red), an XLT, with several options (360, luxury pkg, sunroof, and the sliding rear window). I LOVE IT!!!!! My wife and I have 3 other vehicles (a BMW X3, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord Sport) and I love driving this more than anything else.....it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it!!
That's how I feel about my 2010 Mazda 3. And that's why I'm thinking of buying a new Ford Hybrid. It's based on the same engine!
Personally, I prefer the old key. It's more flexible and one less thing to break. You can also get keys wet and they still work:)
I've had my Lariat Hybrid w/lux pkg and sunroof for about a month and a half now (ordered last July). I'm absolutely smitten with the Maverick. Ford really did this one right. And yeah, the MPG is crazy good. I have a 5 mile one way commute which I normally am doing about 2-3.5 miles in electric and the rest I get 40-55 mpg, consistently. I wholeheartedly agree that you guys should buy one!!
haha so do you fill up once a month?
How many MPG PER TANK
@@kawh8719 hahaha close! I've done some local road trips too. Been getting average of 500 miles to a tank :)
@@lloydzufelt7514 my current overall lifetime average is 40 MPG, which is a good mix of driving styles, climates, terrains etc. Since I've done my work commute the most, I can say I average about 45-50 mpg depending on temps, and still easily getting at least 2.5 miles in electric. Highway drives where I'm doing a combined keeping up with traffic and driving efficiently I've averaged about 35-40mpg.

You guys do great reviews, informative and fun. I think that you really speak to each cars charms and provide useful facts without being negative to just be negative. You really nailed the desirability of the Maverick which is value, efficiency and flexibility. I want one. Keep up the good work, you're my favorite reviewers.
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words, we really appreciate it.
The Lariat hybrid trim does have push button start, nicer seats, and better stereo, Ali g with keyfob remote start.
Glad to see actual small pickups are coming back, there's definitely a market for them. I bought a 2004 Mazda B4000 and I love it.
@Greg with a Mazda logo
I had a 2000 Ranger and loved it. It finally just gave out after years of abuse.
I bought a 2008 and love it too but the gas is killing me 😞
@@noahnitikman2436 oh totally, my 4.0L is way too thirsty for its output 🤣
I've had a ford ranger and a b4000. Great trucks. I just wish they made a version with a complete rear cab. I'd still have one. Unfortunately when you have kids that truck just doesn't cut it :(
I saw a rumor and vague picture that shows a possible PHEV (plug in hybrid) Maverick model in the works.
It looks to be AWD.
This means it can charge, and drive about 30 miles strictly on battery.
That would be PERFECT for me personally.
I´ve been a subscriber for years and I love the new dynamic of the channel with Andrea in each video!
Agreed
Finally! I've been asking about this car in the live chat since last year. Thanks for the awesome review!
I would have thought with the USMCA Agreement (formally NAFTA) that this Mexican built Ford would have been slightly closer aligned with the American price, which I think makes this compact truck … a literal steal! I still think that this truck still offers one of the best values in the Canadian/U.S. market. Ford did an absolutely brilliant job. They said that they’d build a $20,000 hybrid pickup… and they actually did! Well done them! Thanks for the video.
Yeah, Ford's Canadian pricing is out to lunch. $19,995 US is $25,883 today, not $27,750. What are Canadians getting for the extra $2000?
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH I thought heated seats and wheel but not even that
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH a maple syrup covered goose in the glove box
I don’t think you can buy one for 20,000 like they said, dealers are marking them up big time
How are the seats in the Xlt?
One of the most entertaining videos on the Ford Maverick that I've seen. Great job!!
Thanks for the great review. You two are a joy to watch, keep up the good work!
Thanks for this review. I have been waiting for your review on this. Love all of your reviews!
Andrea, let the man have the truck! I live in Commifornia, and I’ve had mine for 4 months now and I’m happy to report that I’m getting 49 to 59 MPG as long as I drive it like a normal human being.
awd or fwd
Front wheel. I think all wheel drive might sacrifice MPG!
Highway?

Super upload, you guys are very funny and make watching your videos very enjoyable. I really like Mavrick it looks great and fuel economy is fantastic 👍
My exact truck, (except for the colour), including sunroof! Ordered it July 12, 2021, get in in two weeks. Can't wait! Great review, and thank you, Andrea, you're right -- snows on the front eliminate the need for 4x4 for 98% of us (I'm also a Vancouverite), while keeping the drivetrain light, simple and efficient. Not sure about needing a pushbutton 'start', though, since the hybrid engine doesn't start in the traditional sense. But overall, nice job as usual! Watch for me driving by in my cactus grey XLT.
250k subscribers, well done guys! I remember when you reached 100k. Growing fast.
I HATE push-button start, so this is the perfect car for me!
Ps - I used to have the Ford Escape and when getting in the Maverick, it feels very much like it, from the inside.
I love it and I look forward to ordering it in August!
It doesn't even make sense to hate push button start. How is fumbling around with a key better?
@@Josh-179 - I like the traditional. I'm not into all the bells and whistles with an added few thousand dollars to the ticket price. That's how!
Excellent review 🙌🙌 you guys are awesome 🚘 Excellent fuel ⛽️ economy
This review really makes me want to buy one of these mavericks.
For most winter scenarios here in upstate northern NY, I'll take front wheel drive with snow tires over AWD with all season tires. Remember you still have to stop and turn in snow and that's where snow tires shine.
Great review. As always. So glad that you got around to review one - probably had to wait for one to be available :) This truck has been on my list and I've never owned a truck. But, as weird as this sounds, the fact that it doesn't have keyless entry...made me think twice. I know it's a stupid thing to gripe about...but EVERY other car does...I would feel like I'm buying some basic car from 10 yrs ago. That said...still consider it...if I could actually get one. If you do end up getting one :P hope you don't have to wait too long!
10:02 “we’re car people, we always need the next car” is a line I’ve spoken to my wife often over the last 32 years! Totally agree!
Zack you are relentless! Lol. When you feel frisky you must be chasing that poor woman all over the house! No wonder she is in such good shape! 🏃♀🏃♂😍😍
My wife wants a Blue Hybrid so she can go pickup her garden supplies. Hard to argue when it gets 44mpg/5.3/100kms and is priced reasonably. Good review.👍
Hey Zach and Andrea , keep up the great videos ! You are fun to watch and down to earth . Andrea , let him get that Maverick ! 😁
This vehicle is basically impossible to get in the U.S.
It’s not, pretty underwhelming in person
@@nenamydog1 It is hard to get, it's selling soon as it hits lots
That seems to be the case with all the fuel efficient vehicles!🤬🤯
The subtlety of Zack’s pitch in this video was a marvel!
Love your show. I just took delivery of our HYBRID- XLT w/ Convenience package, sunroof and hard bed cover. Wow 5.1 l/100km, easy to drive, everything seams in the right place. Wish it had push button start and AWD. I suspect Ford should sell a ton on these. Looking for snow tires :). Great show, love the CDN content.
Very nice review! I love your enthusiasm, positivity and perspective on this vehicle…as if the Maverick needs another positive review, lol. Ordered a USA hybrid lariat (in this color) last October and still no scheduled build yet so I don’t see them offering an awd before they can even make enough of these!
Great video!! Love this little truck with great mileage! It's hit $6.50 in parts of my town! The Maverick is an affordable option for many people! You should definitely get one and give us all the one year owner review! LOL!!
Thanks for another enjoyable review.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
"Andrea's warming up to it." LOL!!!!
A compelling & practical small pickup truck Good review
I had a maverick way back in 1976! with a two barrel 302! it was flaming orange with a green interior At a metal dashboard with just a little soft trim along the top. So nice...
My Mom had a '78 Maverick, it was green lol.
Really informative video, now I can look at the build pages on the Ford website and actually know what to include
Yes but you won't be able to order from Ford until next fall. In the meantime, I posted some Mav price search videos on my channel of some low mile used at close to msrp.
As for the build be sure to get lux and cp360. The added safety features can save you from an accident if you get distracted. Ask any questions Juanjo.
Great review and love the Ford Maverick as it is small. My stepson said i should order one and sell our Kia Sorento. Great truck for Andrea and you Zack.
@Andrea - let Zack get this one. He (You too) deserves one, you guys help a lot of folks around with your detailed and yet concise reviews. :)
I have had my XLT FX4 Lux Tow 2.0EB Maverick since March and have 10,000 miles on it. I have hauled pulled and used it for all the same things that I used my F-150 for. Hauling and pulling dirt bikes hauling furniture, yard debris, Etc No issues whatsoever and I'm loving the average after 10,000 miles 28 MPG.
Zack, you've always suggested a good set of snow tires for FWD vehicles... Ford has nailed it with the Maverick powertrains and packaging/design. The proof is in the fact that go to your local Ford dealer and see if you can buy one without a 1yr wait!!
It’s not really the powertrains and design but solely the price. You just can’t design a worse vehicle for the money and have someone buy it, car in itself isn’t anything special, it’s good value because it’s cheap, not because it’s good. It’s just ok.
Most of the weight is on the drive wheels. AWD and snow tires are not needed.
@Zak Rhajiak It's a nice package. But the fact is, there are new vehicle shortages across the board. A 1 year wait time is normal for everything these days. Means nothing.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q Winter tires offer great advantages in the Great White North, don't cheap out on the only thing that connects your vehicle to the road.
You two are awesome! Pull the switch and buy one!
We just bought a 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid that we found used with under 4K miles. Going to pick it up this week. Liked your review!!
Did you pay msrp? The XLT lux 360 hybrid I show on my channel cost 27k.
@@fordmaverickmaniac we ended up paying over MSRP, unfortunately. We were looking for a vehicle under 5,000 lbs to use as a TOAD with interior space for 2 dogs when out & about. The curb weight of the Maverick is perfect & the ability to put gear in the truck bed is a bonus. I think the hybrid vehicles are right for our time & infrastructure development.
@@sharimctiver8952 Bummer Shari but I hope you enjoy it! On my videos you can see I was so excited, I ordered 2 in summer 2021 before the long line.
Very unique looking truck utility vehicle Andrea, neat size and styling!
It's a great vehicle, I am really impressed with it.
I have a 2020 Honda Ridgeline, which honestly I absolutely love. But it's a bit hard on gas. The Maverick did get my attention. I wish I had a Hybrid in my Ridgeline and I would actually prefer the key. But the one thing that I wish the Maverick had was an in bed trunk. That is so absolutely useful it's crazy that this truck doesn't have it.
You know when the reviewer actually really wants to buy a car that he has reviewed says so much, my son wants one now after your last review of the 2 liter model, he wants the hybrid.
😆😆😆 Have an uncle just like Zack! Great review you guys, an impressive all-around pick up 🥳🥳
Yes!!! Go for it!! Greetings from Ecuador!
You guys are quite a couple can’t believe it works but it works
Ill be in the market for a Maverick next year. Stepping on up from a Honda CRV. I need a little more utility for my SUV lifestyle. Id love a hybrid awd but will settle for an ecoboost if I must have awd. Also I think you should buy the hot pepper truck! Just imagine the possibilities!
My XLT hybrid should be arriving this Sunday!! Ordered it last July.
Thanks for posting be nice to make video about how you get one been waiting since October
Wow, I always wanted a truck, but could never justify the cost. You guys made a good case for the Maverick. I am gonna check with the wife.
I love my XL Ford Maverick!!
Awesome video. Looking forward to getting mine. Only been waiting 9 months for a build date. The 2023 models are said to be coming out by Oct, but I'm.still waiting on my order. And yes, I also traded in my Tacoma and have no truck now. Dealer said 4 to 5 months. They should write Sci Fi. Nice vid though. I keep hoping for my Golden Ticket...
I have a Lariat Hot Pepper Red. The Maverick is a fantastic little truck. My hybrid also beats EPA MPG.
I finally got my production date for my Hybrid XLT Lux Maverick. I have to say that cayenne red is gorgeous in person in full sunlight, it has a beautiful tangerine color hue to it. I can’t wait to get mine in Cactus grey!
I want one!! They need to make more of them. Andrea let Zack get one!
First time I checked your channel and really enjoyed your review! I am planning on buying a 2024 model of this truck. At 58 years old this will be my last new vehicle purchase.
You guys are adorable! Zach IS relentless, but your banter is about this truck is so funny. Great review! Keyless entry doesn't bother me as I've never had it before anyways. Unsure to possibly go with this or something bigger like the Kia Sorrento. They are both on my list. With a family of 4 and gear out the wazoo at times, this truck *might* be too small. The price is a big seller for me, even the top package is cheaper than the Sorrento hybrid I believe...
Hi Guys,
I do like this small pick-up,
Thanks for sharing.
my niece bought one in the Area 51 color - it looks amazing with that paint color! Andrea, take a look at it, you may give Zack the nod afterwards!
Love your reviews. In my opinion, push button start solved a problem nobody ever had so I wouldn’t miss it. Keep up the great work.
Simply incorrect.
With modern proximity key, i step inside, foot on brake, and push start button.
With traditional key, one must spend time at the beginning and end of every drive to insert key, twist key, extract key from ignition, withdraw key from pocket, insert into pocket, a traditional key. So many more steps involved with traditional key.
With modern proximity key, key stays in my pocket for the entirety of all those aforementioned tasks. Superior.
Very nice, but you cannot get them, or order one, here in the state of hockey, eh. Go for it Andrea!... Very well done review folks.
😆 Zack seems enjoy this and making fun you Andrea. Not bad little truck. It’s a really disappointed for not getting an AWD because we had much snow than your area had. The gas mileage is totally impressive.
Haha, this video was fun to do. You are right, no AWD hybrid option will be a no go for some.
I had a 1988 front wheel drive Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It worked very well on snow and ice covered roads. Yes, I didn’t need to drive it off road or pull a trailer so the less expensive and fuel efficiency of the car worked very well for me. I won’t be doing serious off-roading so for me, I’d like Ford to keep the front wheel drive only option and offer all wheel drive to those that want it.
Good review. You convinced me. I am keeping my rarely used old Toyota Tacoma. That way I won't have to take my Tesla to the dump.
I think Zach wants one...maybe two...I kinda like the look...but am just wondering what other marks will come out with something similar..ie Ram and now Volkswagen..that Scout nameplate I can recall from my growing up..interesting..well done and Andrea...have you relented yet??lol..enjoy🙂
Glad to see AWD come to the hybrid for 2024.
I got the Lariat and I love it I traded in my Ford Explorer 2018 XLT Sport Package for the maverick lariat it brought the fun back in driving and I’m getting 34 miles per gallon on the highway driving at 70 miles an hour,
If one looks at the cost of the Maverick Hybrid with the luxury package, one may end up better off getting the base Escape Hybrid (which has more standard features) So its a matter if a person needs a box or not. I'm learning towards either the Maverick Hybrid XLT with the luxury package or the base Escape Hybrid as my next vehicle in a couple of years.
Throw a tonneau cover on it and it's the most practical small vehicle there is.
Looks like great truck !
Great video you mentioned things may fall, please specify what you meant? thanks
The color combo of the interior reminds me of my old 2006 Honda Element.
I definitely think you guys should get a Maverick!
Hi. Love your reviews! Is it true that Ford is coming with plugin hybrid awd Maveric? Thank you. Please keep us informed. God bless
It seems like an awesome little truck here Good review too. And..... are ya gonna get one? I would.
True review 👍
Great fuel economy yes .. there is a way to improve it as well. Turn off you hill decent control to get even better fuel economy in your Ford . Given hybrid system working wile costing slowing you down nicely .. this car does not need hill decent mode .. let it go is what I say .. nice cars from ford Escape or Maverick … its win win anyway you want it
Give it up Andrea, make Zack a happy man and let him order one... they are about 2-year delay so he can be happy thinking you let him order one and you can be happy knowing he will probably give up after all the delivery delays.
I agree that the hybrid model should have the awd option especially for snowy weather here in Québec
I bought an eco boost lariat Maverick in November 2021 and so far I've been very happy with my purchase. Given the huge increase in the cost of fuel I wonder if I should have waited for the hybrid model (I bought my Maverick off a dealer's lot). Then-again, I do like the lariat interior (not available on the hybrid, as you mentioned) and for winter driving I like the four wheel drive.
On the bright side you get to enjoy all that power of the ecoboost! Its still pretty good on fuel economy too!
Has everyone forgot about upholstery shops? ....I keep hearing people talking about the materials in certain trims like I can't tell my upholstery guy to put alcantera seats in any car if I wanted to
How much did you pay for it?
A hybrid is mainly useful if you do stop and go constantly. If you're getting good few mileage it sounds like you're doing mostly highway driving so a hybrid is mostly useless in that scenario.
Lariat Hybrid is definitely available in the U.S.....
@:11 this press car has seen some better days! Those scratches!
When this truck becomes a Ev. I will have one. Love
Supposedly that’s happening or a plug in hybrid version
I have a 2020 Honda Ridgeline and I absolutely love it! But...I do wish there would have been a hybrid version for it. It's pretty thirsty at times. I'd consider a Maverick but without the in bed trunk my truck I'm not sure if Id go for it. At least not right now.
Andrea looks great in the Maverick! Zack should buy one for her.
Buy it Andrea if you can find one. 😄 I ordered mine last August and still waiting for it.
Come on Andrea, say YES!!!😊
Glad to see the cheep mini truck class return. Maverick is a new vehicle segment on its own. It a totally different character than the Toyota or Nissan w body on frame and transfer cases. At $5-10000 cheeper than the Santa cruz or Ridgeline, you cant compare them either. And then the fuel economy. Ask yourself is it worth paying $10000 more for a Ridgeline … and then another $1500 more a year in fuel. By the time the warranty is up, the Maverick has saved you $17500!! Dont get me wrong all those other trucks are amazing at what they do but the Mav kills it at cheep, practical transportation. Dont tell my wife but im heading to the dealer tomorrow!
Where can I get the orange piece in the cubby next to the nav screen? I have no idea what to put in there, but that piece looks a little interesting.
Andrea, this Maverick does sound like the perfect vehicle for your lifestyle...
Toyota needs to make something like this.
Hi Folks, Thank you for this Maverick video. Have you been able to review the 2.0 litre AWD version [XLT or Lariat]? Or did I just miss it somewhere? Many Thanks, Graham.
Ford hit two out of the park with this and the bronco sport. People who have bought either one absolutely love them.
Not the owners with the 2.7 EcoBoost
@@rotaxrider neither of these come with the 2.7
@@frh-freerangehuman A good thing they didn’t then
I personally prefer the key. Lot more reliable. Do like the color. 😊🐢
The orange insert looks to be 3d printed as you can see the layer lines. This can be totally customized by those who are into 3d printing
I think the keyless entry and push button has to be an option.. on the highest trim. On the lower trim - I'm just fine with a key. Heck for this price I would go back to crank windows.
Push button start is standard on Lariat in US. If folks really want the Maverick AND push button and do not want the Lariat, you can add a button third party or DIY. I do not think any Maverick has a wireless radio system, which is why it uses a keypad and corded carplay with Lariat instead of keyless entry and wireless carplay. The Santa Cruz does have these, but it also costs thousands more.
You two are so cute! I hope you get the truck.
I went fro a 2017 Prius to the base 2023 Xl Maverick Hybrid. I live on the snowcoast and with Blizzaks I got where I needed to in the Prius. I'm not worried about not having AWD. 2024 models released and still no AWD.
Ordered an xlt 2.0 awd with 4k tow in hot pepper red! :) Don't care about push button start, but would have liked to have xm radio and heated seats (didn't get the luxury pack).
I love my XLT hybrid i got this from last two months i am getting 46-47 mpg.
