This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Ford maverick Hybrid, the North American Truck of the Year and the most fuel efficient pickup truck you can buy! Ford Maverick, the North American truck of the year! Not only is this hybrid fuel efficient, but also affordable. We are driving the XLT hybrid in Hot Pepper Red, which is the top trim in Canada. The Ford Maverick is versatile, practical and great for someone who wants the utility of an open bed without having to drive a large pick up truck. It gives you the best of both worlds, compact on the outside and spacious enough on the inside. The Maverick offers a 4.5-foot bed with 1500 pounds of payload capacity. It can tow 2,000 pounds but with the optional tow package available on the 2L Ecoboost AWD model; it can tow 4,000 pounds. The Ford Maverick Hybrid comes standard with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with a hybrid system is matched to an ECVT with a combined 191 horsepower, FWD only. In Canada, the hybrid powertrain is only available on the XL and XLT models but in the US, it is available on all models including, the top Lariat trim. The second engine option is a 2L Ecoboost with 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD in Canada. In the US, FWD and AWD options are available. In Canada, it is available on the XL and XLT models, standard on the Lariat.
The Maverick hybrid gets incredible fuel economy; it’s rated at 5.6L/100 km, 42 MPG city and 7.1L/100km, 33 MPG highway. But, we are actually getting 5.3L/100km, 44 MPG in the city, which is impressive. The Ford Maverick hybrid comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, a 4.2” instrument cluster, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual driver and passenger seats, a black Onyx Cloth interior, power door locks and power windows, remote key-less entry, keyed ignition, LED headlights, Flexbed system, 17” wheels and a full-size spare tire. The Ford Maverick Hybrid XL starts at $27,750 CAD/$19,995 USD, XLT $30,350 CAD/$22,360 USD and the Lariat $25,860 USD. The 2L Ecoboost FWD XL model in the US starts at $21,080 USD, XL AWD $29,350 CAD/$24,385 USD, XLT AWD $31,950 CAD/$26,750 USD, Lariat AWD $35,400 CAD/$30,250 USD.

I bought a Maverick almost identical to this one. It is the same color (hot pepper red), an XLT, with several options (360, luxury pkg, sunroof, and the sliding rear window). I LOVE IT!!!!! My wife and I have 3 other vehicles (a BMW X3, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord Sport) and I love driving this more than anything else.....it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it!!

I've had my Lariat Hybrid w/lux pkg and sunroof for about a month and a half now (ordered last July). I'm absolutely smitten with the Maverick. Ford really did this one right. And yeah, the MPG is crazy good. I have a 5 mile one way commute which I normally am doing about 2-3.5 miles in electric and the rest I get 40-55 mpg, consistently. I wholeheartedly agree that you guys should buy one!!

I would have thought with the USMCA Agreement (formally NAFTA) that this Mexican built Ford would have been slightly closer aligned with the American price, which I think makes this compact truck … a literal steal! I still think that this truck still offers one of the best values in the Canadian/U.S. market. Ford did an absolutely brilliant job. The interior is actually a plus for me. Simple, yet a bit flamboyant and those plastics will likely never wear. I hope Toyota comes up with something of this sort in the future. Yes, I didn’t need to drive it off road or pull a trailer so the less expensive and fuel efficiency of the car worked very well for me. Great review! We got an XLT with just the CoPilot360 option added on. The fuel economy and the usability of the package are no doubt the most salient features, but I'd additionally highlight: a) This is an eCVT drivetrain originally licensed from Toyota back in 2008 and used in the Ford Fusion Hybrid, though the electric motor is now an updated version fully developed in-house. Only Toyota and Ford offer proper eCVTs and besides being the most efficient design, I'd also put in doubt the long-term reliability of the other hybrid approaches. b) It's unfortunate that Ford restricts their high-end CoPilot360 features to the Lariat trim, in my opinion safety features should be offered across the board. c) The plastics look and feel okay to the touch for the price point, but they scratch very easily, however I totally understand it had to fit a budget. On the plus side, there are no squeaks after six months of use. Ford has a best seller in its hands.

I think the keyless entry and push button has to be an option.. on the highest trim. On the lower trim - I'm just fine with a key. Heck for this price I would go back to crank windows.

Push button start is standard on Lariat in US. If folks really want the Maverick AND push button and do not want the Lariat, you can add a button third party or DIY. I do not think any Maverick has a wireless radio system, which is why it uses a keypad and corded carplay with Lariat instead of keyless entry and wireless carplay. The Santa Cruz does have these, but it also costs thousands more.

This is a smart/fantastic buy. But, I'd suggest to wait a year, or two before picking one up. Any early manufacturing issues will be dealt with. And more model options will be added. Great Truck!

When I tell you mine just shut down suddenly, and I’m in two different Maverick groups, most likely it’s the wiring harness but Ford is so backed up it’s ridiculous so it could be weeks before I even find out what’s going on! Definitely rethinking my purchase after so many others are having theirs die suddenly too!

from the nightmare stories i've heard from early BEV truck owners : for a serious hauler/loader BEVs are simply not ready for prime time (battery energy density) on no one loves the prospect of getting all loaded up and having the batteries die and pray u are in the vicinity of a fast charger! so hybrids make a lot more sense for me...

Glad to see the cheep mini truck class return. Maverick is a new vehicle segment on its own. It a totally different character than the Toyota or Nissan w body on frame and transfer cases. At $5-10000 cheeper than the Santa cruz or Ridgeline, you cant compare them either. And then the fuel economy. Ask yourself is it worth paying $10000 more for a Ridgeline … and then another $1500 more a year in fuel. By the time the warranty is up, the Maverick has saved you $17500!! Dont get me wrong all those other trucks are amazing at what they do but the Mav kills it at cheep, practical transportation. Dont tell my wife but im heading to the dealer tomorrow!

With a push button start, you may leave the car idle for very long time before you know it. I know people who left the car idle in garage overnight and died from carbon monoxide poisoning. To me, starting the engine with a key is the right way and is definitely safer.

But, as weird as this sounds, the fact that it doesn't have keyless entry...made me think twice. I know it's a stupid thing to gripe about...but EVERY other car does...I would feel like I'm buying some basic car from 10 yrs ago. That said...still consider it...if I could actually get one. If you do end up getting one :P hope you don't have to wait too long!

You can tell from the audio that the plastic makes the interior more noisy. Softer surfaces absorb sound, plastic reflects it. But, that plastic will be easy to clean. The Marverick would be great at the MSRP, but not at the price dealers are currently charging.

I love this vehicle. I have shown many people and convinced most they need it.
Andrea you are the perfect customer for this vehicle because it replaces two vehicles in your driveway. This replaces the already sold Tacoma and can also replace the fuel efficient Civic. It is considerably better on gas then the average of those two vehicles and it eliminates insurance on the second vehicle.
If you want to tease Zack, tell him he can get it if he sells the manual Cayenne GTS or two watches of your choice.
