- Last week, I felt conflicted and confused with life. I spent hours and hours on this sketch, as an outlet for those feelings, trying to make sense of it all. Life can be simple, but it can be really complicated at times, and that is life I suppose.
Luckily, I am feeling better this week! (Don’t ask me why, because life is still complicated af XD)

With the reflections in the window in the door, it brought a painting within a painting to mind. I'm intrigued by stories within stories, so that was very interesting to me. Jillee I think it’s absolutely what you needed it to be on that day. I loved how it turned out. The artist sees all the imperfections of what they envisioned it should be, that is so normal. The viewer sees it for what it brings out in them. It may not be what you would “normally” paint but it’s exactly what you needed to paint in that very moment. Is it perfect to you? Maybe not. But it’s perfect for me. It’s all that I needed to see today! Art is so beautiful in the way it communicates with both the artist and the one who views the art. You’re perfect & it’s perfect. I have overworked so many paintings, so I understand your frustration. I always learn something though. Your art is beautiful! Maybe painting more complicated helped you work through your complicated feelings. Art isn’t always easy but it’s sometimes cathartic.

Beautiful piece! I think you used the colors that reflected your feelings and I think that’s how art should be. The painting could also speak to someone feeling the same way you were. Painting from the heart and expressing yourself is beautiful! So I love how it turned out!

Hi Jill, this piece is just lovely! I understand the worry about overdoing it and the frustration about life itself sometimes. I just want you to know that you are not alone in that feeling.
I just got back to painting and you are one of my inspirations online. I also love how you approach each piece. Before I start a piece, I am sometimes overcome by fear that what I have chosen is more complicated than I can handle but usually, I get to finish and feel satisfied with the result.
You are right, sometimes it is actually only us, the artists, who notice the flaws in our pieces.

Hi, I only just discovered you a week or two ago and you've really inspired me to go back and try watercoloring again. I have so many watercolor pencils crayons and paints I've accumulated from past birthdays and Xmas I decided to pull them out again. Paper really makes a difference when pulling colors and drying as I'm using a sort of mixed media sketchpad that I wanted to finish using. I have bought a travel sized W&N watercolor pad, so I'll most likely see the difference almost immediately lol. I feel as though whether your sketching or painting with more detail makes no difference to me as a viewer as it describes how you may be feeling in that moment and sometimes it can reflect back in our artwork. And in contrast to how youre feeling in that moment, as a viewer i find this piece beautiful (like all your past pieces). We all have bad times and feel overwhelmed with things in life, but as you said, not everything can or has to be perfect. It's how you make the best of the situation. And if painting and sketching is an outlet for you, do whatever you feel like in that moment - whether if that's drawing, painting, drinking tea, or going for a walk - there's nothing wrong with taking a mental break. I'm sure everyone here will write you messages of encouragement. It's always darkest until dawn. Cheers!

Listening to your story and telling us about your feelings and mood I personally feel that this piece speaks for you and the moment that you're in.
I hope you're doing well now and these darker, frustrated feelings have subsided.
Please, for your own sake, only create what feels good for you, because working for others will burn out your will and spirit and might make you lose the joy you felt in the beginning when there weren't all these comments, followers and algorithms.
Just create for you and how you feel, don't do that for the sake of creating for others.

It's easy and like a magic
I love to follow what you do and this particular painting where you explain how your moods affects the painting you produce. I tend to use painting as a way of calming myself so opt for optimistic images to support this. I will pay attention to my choices to see if my mood also affects what/how I paint. Thank you! I am not always able to “paint through my mood”, but sometimes I remind myself that just starting and doing a little sketching might lift me out of my mood, so I do it anyway🤗
I actually love this piece. I love moody, that's just me. But you could easily be right in that ones mood do reflect in a piece like this. And it's ok too. It could perhaps be fun for you to do this again like the beautiful building from Prague you also painted twice. And got two equally beautiful results. I need to find bravery and dive into this technique of painting first instead of my pencil sketch I spend forever on...this underlayer really gives it another dimension I'm drawn too.
This video is inspiring. I was having the same issue that my work got quite complicated since there's too many thoughts popping up in my mind. I used to think it was a problem, but now it seems there're better ways to deal with these thoughts when painting.

Patty-I think your picture is gorgeous. I understand about having a mood while painting. I was in a very bad mood a couple of weeks ago. I was painting some flowers, and then I started painting faces on the flowers, and next thing I knew, my flowers were as angry as I was. I have to get a handle on that. Flowers aren't supposed to be angry. 😀

Thank you, yes I am feeling better since I did this one☺️Knowing when to stop takes a bit of experience, but if your colours are muddy, consider using less colors in your mixes and putting down fewer layers. Sometimes it works to lift or blend those excessive strokes too. Hope that helps!
