Mrs. Petri in a later interview stated quite firmly that this evening was by far the hardest challenge of her professional career. Not exactly hard to believe, huh...
I've lost count of how many times I've watched and enjoyed this. Makes me wonder every time. She knows just what he's going to do and still has trouble keeping from laughing. Mark of a real comedy genius. Hat off to Michala for being such a sport.
As he was improvising most of this song (which is incredible in itself), notice how at 3:38 he thinks the melody is going in another direction (as it did at 1:25), then realizes, and in a split second seaminglessly changes his play. I believe the chello player in the back notices and smiles! Small detail that just goes to show what a truly gifted pianist he was. RIP
actually at the dvd that was realesed with his life work shortly after he passed away, may his soul rest in peace, he did explain that he had heard this pice of music but he had never learnt to play it, so yes he imporivises the entire time. he was a genious, a musical wounder. RIP Borge, i am sorry that i didnt have time to talk to you once more before you passed away
Victor could and CAN a liitle light the darkest day! R.I.P. dear Victor and thank you sooooooooooo much for the joy you granted to us. Give our best wishes also to Danny Kaye .........he might be with you on cloud 7!
This is one of my all time favourie pieces of comedy. Both are excellent musicians but the young lady's laughter just adds so much to the fun. Bravo! Encore!
And he will be remembered.. For sure.. maybe not for the musical talent, maybe not for his finesse but maybe because he was not only the first stand-up-comedian but the only one with that talent of both musicality and humour.
Why not for his musical talent?? Hear him play claire the lune : he has a beautifull touch and plays with a lot off musicality and feeling. Apparantly he started making jokes because he was nervous on stage, but in the beginning he was a very prommissing concertpianist !!
now, every time i hear Czardas i always remember Victor Borge and Michala Petri. plus there will always be a smile on my face. correction, a silly grin.
It MUST be Victor Borge who can disturbe Michala Petri. Two super professionals playing against and together!!!!!!!!!!! WONDERFUL R.I.P. dear Victor and THANK YOU SO MUCH
so classic... i love how he can be so hilarious and bring so many different people in with his comedy, but they can still show how amazing they can be as performers. she's crazy good.
I play the recorder too, and listening to her makes me want to sit down and cry. Not for her, for me! She's like Flight of the Bumblebee and I'm more like Chopsticks. Woof!
What a gem! I ran across this by accident and couldn't stop smiling. I saw Michala in Chicago at Symphony Hall some 30+ years ago. I see she's still performing.
remember watching it on danish tv as a child... it was always surtain that we would laugh :-)) and remember especialy this with Petri... it has become a classic in Denmark! Loved his abillity to make his guests loose it !
Very Brave to let Victor Borge accompany her! Because Mr. Borge will do whatever possible to get her to laugh for the purpose of distracting her from performing perfectly, but she did anyways! Don't get me wrong I love watching Victor Borge perform on all his comedy DVD albums, but he didn't make this whistle/flute player Michala Petri laugh while she was playing her part!
And to remind you all.. Victor Borge was the entertainer that pushed classical music to its limits.. If he wanted to.. he could have played everything with no humour, but his effect on classical music was so much more because he used his humour. Them americans say he was an american but he was danish in his roots.. Musically and humour.
Amazing performance - and that she is able to play at all... The best performance ever by two top artists!!! If you like this, also check out top pianist Ilana Vered, doing some humorous versions of Gershwin and Tchaikovsky.
Ganz großes Kino!! - Und es ist unglaublich, wie professionell sie ist und weiterspielt, obschon sie ständig zum Lachen gebracht wird! Vielen Dank fürs Hochladen!
@bluehiu it's like all comedians, they have their bits that they do. He has lots of gags that he uses over and over, like his seatbelts in the piano bench. There's some things I think he does just to make the person he's accompanying crack up.
Mrs. Petri in a later interview stated quite firmly that this evening was by far the hardest challenge of her professional career. Not exactly hard to believe, huh...
The Challenge was putting up with Victor Borge!!!
Ce doit être horrible de vouloir maintenir sa concentration alors que son acolyte fait tout pour la deconcentrer...

As miss Petri have said later on.. Those were the most valuable musical lessons ever. And she got paid for it.
Not only a great comedian, but an almighty pianist!
Victor could and CAN a liitle light the darkest day!
R.I.P. dear Victor and thank you sooooooooooo much for the joy you granted to us.
Give our best wishes also to Danny Kaye .........he might be with you on cloud 7!

Шикарный музыкант!!! Какая свобода!!!!Это ГЕНИАЛЬНОСТЬ!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
browsing Borge clips on youtube for hours. Time well spent! :)
now, every time i hear Czardas i always remember Victor Borge and Michala Petri. plus there will always be a smile on my face. correction, a silly grin.
As far as I remeber Borge did not know this piece, so he was improvising the whole time. Impressive
Yes, maybe, but, sometimes he can be really mean in his Non-verbal comments as well as his verbal ones!
He was also a classically trained pianist at the royal institute of music in Denmark. Indeed a huge talent at the piano
This had me in stitches! I don't know how she managed to play at all with Victor goofing around like that...what a cute old guy.
Perfect perfect perfect ❤❤❤
Oh, that would be time! (o; She is one of the greatest!
Didn't know this existed til now. It's news to me he did this w someone other than Anton Kontra.
This had to be her most challenging performances! Well done!
It MUST be Victor Borge who can disturbe Michala Petri.
Two super professionals playing against and together!!!!!!!!!!!
WONDERFUL R.I.P. dear Victor and THANK YOU SO MUCH
I watch it over and over again and still find it amusing every time. Victor Borge has inspired me to practice the piano even more now!
so classic... i love how he can be so hilarious and bring so many different people in with his comedy, but they can still show how amazing they can be as performers. she's crazy good.
How are you doing today my name is Eric
Two great masters.
Oh gosh... The fact that she can even play without bursting into wild laughter is amazing.
I am SO PROUD TO BE DANISH
hahahahaha victor's just such a genius.. the music just comes so naturally :) & I'm impressed she held her laughter for so long..
Awesome Victor Borge!!
I think Michaela Petri was pretty awesome too, getting through the piece without breaking down in hysterics
Victor Borge is a true pianist with a musician ear.
幽默的音樂家加上世界頂尖的直笛演奏家,很讚喔!
remember watching it on danish tv as a child... it was always surtain that we would laugh :-)) and remember especialy this with Petri... it has become a classic in Denmark! Loved his abillity to make his guests loose it !
what a brave Girl - I was rolling around the floor!
what does this comment mean? She is a very accomplished artist.
she definetely is, but Victor did everything he could to disturb her - I thought that was obvious?
Very Brave to let Victor Borge accompany her! Because Mr. Borge will do whatever possible to get her to laugh for the purpose of distracting her from performing perfectly, but she did anyways! It's Czardas.
Magnifique I love Michala Petri and Victor Borge is Amazing *-*
How are you doing today my name is Eric
Magnifico...
lol i think they were laughing cause starting from 1:00, the melody is in supposedly in minor but Borge was improvising in major.
Victor Borge is AWESOME ! =333
Неисчерпаемая энергия Виктора!😂
Amazing performance - and that she is able to play at all... The best performance ever by two top artists!!!
If you like this, also check out top pianist Ilana Vered, doing some humorous versions of Gershwin and Tchaikovsky.
i love all the things in here, amazing!!!
Brilliant on all counts!!!
Great job, both of you.
I love how she can't hold her composure! Victor Borge is AMAZING.
The Borge will take over the universe. Resistance is futile!
That would be wonderful.
Ganz großes Kino!! - Und es ist unglaublich, wie professionell sie ist und weiterspielt, obschon sie ständig zum Lachen gebracht wird!
Vielen Dank fürs Hochladen!
Victor, you were amazing !!!
Thanks for posting, I love his humour!
timeless classical borge. what no "hands off please" see victor borge marilyn mulvey. the dance of the comedians is beyond hillarious
Victor Borge war als Pianist bestimmt so gut wie Ludwig van Beethoven vor 220 Jahren.
Unbeschreiblich sensationell.
Wonderfull!!!!!!!!
Brilliant!!!!
GREAT VID!! THanks for sharing!
timeless, this so funny!
Fantástica bravoooo
It's not subtitled, but after the first bit of subtitles where he says: "Is doctor Petri nearby?" he asks: "Does anyone have a glass of water?".
great
estupenda!
😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Heerlijk genoten
Brabo!! thank you!! great!!
Thanks for English captions.
Bravo !!!!
This was Victor's 80th Birthday!! i hope i can play that well and be as sprightly and funny when I'm 80!
She laughed ! :D
He was amazing :)
such a nice piano melody.
i think in some countries, they call recorders the 'flute'
In german it's "Blockflöte"
yo no puedo dejar de reir cuando veo a alguien tocar este instrumento. pero aun asi me gusta
Victor Borge- the first king of trolling :D
Cudos for the flute player trying to keep her face straight! :D
It’s a recorder.
3:50 genius
Thanks Victor Borge For such a performance .. plz watch 0:17 to 0:30 ( AMAZING!!! )
Tivoli Gardens is beautiful in Copenhagen, Denmark. Victor is a major Danish asset along with blue cheese, pastries and Jenny Lind.
A Master/ make /-created wonder
Is there any posibillity to get notes of that beautiful flute part ? I found only piano part of monty czardas, but not flute..

@ Mahknip - me too! Biochem v. Borge?? BORGE!!!

Bravi~~
I like her laughter at around 3:18 :P
2:34 is the greatest
@bluehiu it's like all comedians, they have their bits that they do. He has lots of gags that he uses over and over, like his seatbelts in the piano bench. There's some things I think he does just to make the person he's accompanying crack up.
They must have done tons of rehearsals, but it's still funny. She's a total pro.
Can anyone tell what sort of technique she starts playing at 2:30?
Alexander González Evans Flatterzunge (Flutter-tonguing)
is that equivalent to growling in Sax?
any1 have this song on mp3 plz¡¡¡
@MrGustaphe why would people who play recorder not like this video? I do, and i love it! :P
0:33 it was fals and Borge is so funny his movements are so big =)
That can't be so, as he's on here accompanying the same piece (Mont's Csardas) with a violinist.
@Springhearte Even more impressive is that she's not too fazed by Victor Borge messing with her rythm by playing something entirely different :)
@pbaker123
Two great Danes having fun :-)
How are you doing today my name is Eric
she's trying sooo hard not to laugh!! (does a good job too)
Petri's playing is way beyond the humour.
For me Les Dawson is the king of spoof playing.
3:18 ! xDDDD
00:41 😂 omg
Look for a violin solo - I think Monty wrote this piece for Violin and Orchestra
accordian?
Victor Borge - trolling people before it was even a thing.
2:28 through 2:43 OMG I died XD
