  • The time has finally come for us to do a walk-around of our 2022 Ram Power Wagon that has been being built for the past several months. We were recently on a trip in this rig and have nothing but great things to say about it. After several overland build over the past few years, we can finally say with confidence that this vehicle will be here for the long haul.

    Fantastic Build ! A lot of great ideas here and experiences. As you said there are trails that are tight but full size is the way to go. I have a 20 F350 4x4 and slowly and as simple as I can make it will be done soon.

      Right on! I agree, I think the full size overland vehicles are the future for most people who need a truck for a truck as well as a vehicle for adventure travel. Thanks for the input and congrats on the F350!

    Awesome video series bro and love the channel in general. I have dreamed about the Gladiator since AEV was making the Brute and was almost about to get one and then realized I have 3 tall teens and the Gladiator just wasn't cutting it. Then I found the power wagon and I am fell in love. I have been researching what I want it too be like and you have pretty much built what I have been building in my head. Thanks again for sharing

    We have done a lot of the same upgrades on our 2017 power wagon….highly recommend the upgraded Thuren front and rear track bars and a Hellwig big wig sway bar…it’s a game changer for the power wagons soft suspension

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před rokem +1

      Do you still have the same suspension set up that came factory? I may be looking to make a change and would love someone with experience to give me some info. I’ll take a look at the other items!

    • @jonathanmckay8149
      @jonathanmckay8149 Před rokem

      @@roamingwithjosh It took a pretty deep dive to figure out where to start with suspension. After adding our Smartcap, rooftop tent and our gear, we noticed that lane changes at speed on the highway would sometimes cause a slight side to side rocking, as though you were in a row boat on the water. Because PW's are built for articulation and off road, the extra weight became noticable, even though we were below our GVWR. Initially we thought about upgrading springs/shocks...but after researching it, we found others who started with that still had the body roll issue. Upgrading the track bars and replacing the tiny rear stock sway bar with a much larger rear sway bar from Hellwig brought the PW back to feeling like stock again when fully loaded.. Problem solved and the truck handles so much better. Other than that, we replaced the steering damper on a road trip through the PNW when the original failed. The truck was just shy of 90 000km (we're at 100 000km now)...so definitely consider replacing that as some point too...we found out the hard way that a PW will in fact go into a death wobble if the steering damper fails lol!

    Nice rig, looking for a roof rack setup on my PW. Does your configuration allow the sunroof to function properly?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před 6 měsíci

      The sunroof does function properly. It does require to drill into your roof so it's something to consider before purchasing.

    Nice truck. I ordered one about six weeks ago and this is great info for those new to the Power Wagon looking for ideas. I appreciate you taking the time. I know Rigid makes good stuff. And I totally understand, "you get what you pay for" and "buy once, cry once". But......$200 for two powder coated stainless steel light brackets is ridiculous. I wish there were more companies out there making PW accessories. Competition would reel in some of this nonsense.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před rokem

      I totally agree. I tried buying a cheap pair off amazon that fit a different ram model just to see if I could get them to work with drilling a few of my own holes and I wasn't able to get them to fit so the lights would look good. This market as a hole is overblown and its not a new thing because inflation, it's just ridiculously over priced and people buy stuff from china and mark it up an insane amount. Don't get me started on my rant about this....

      Hey a bit random but did your truck come in? I’m conflicted wether to order one or get a used one as I’ve had AWFUL luck with ordering trucks and things being delayed. I waited 7 months for my ZR2 Colorado

      @Interesting_Placebo Před rokem +1

      @@bobsagit10 No, but it's finally in production after ordering mid May. Delivery to dealer is estimated to be Oct 16th. Crazy because I've seen a lot of other orders woth shipping times around 4 weeks. I think they will be moving to 2023's before long so maybe that has something to do with it. The train companies are having employee issues now too.

      @@Interesting_Placebo I placed an order in beginning of July. Doesn't show any change in status still but just order confirmed. But same dealership has one coming in soon and that person put their order in 5 weeks before me. So maybe end of September or in mid October for my to come in. There isn't much to do for overlanding in my state but there are some good trails to hit. Besides being the main vehicle to drive daily. Can't wait

    I just want to know what you and your wife do to allow the vehicles and the travel time? My wife and I are hoping to move back to America and we want to be able to travel. We have 3 kids, and I was looking at an Outback Wilderness specifically because of your videos, but I would love to have a Ram Rebel (Power Wagon is just way too pricey for us in the beginning). If you have any advice for me to help get it started up, I would greatly appreciate it.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  Před rokem +1

      Hey, Cody! My wife and I own several small businesses and for the past 10 years I've been an entrepreneur of some sort which has graciously afforded us a few extra dollars to spend and time to travel. There's a lot that goes into the businesses that nobody ever sees or knows about that does consume a large amount of our time and energy. My best piece of advice for starting any vehicle build or starting to travel like we do is get what you can afford and make sure it's reliable, don't worry about all the extra stuff and "gear," just take your family out and have a good time, you definitely don't need the biggest or coolest vehicle to do any of that.

      @@roamingwithjosh thank you for that. I actually talked to my father about joining him in his company. He has had his own construction company since I was born. I thought about building onto that with landscaping and go to school at night. I am loving your videos. I wanted to know if you think your Outback could seat three booster/baby chairs in the backseat? We are wanting to find a good car for my wife. I want to at least have something we could do a cross country trip in. Obviously trucks are not going to work for that. But man I love the Ram PW

      @@roamingwithjosh also thank you for responding. It is nice to have the communication with someone who is basically living a kind of life I hope to work towards. I’m 32 now and I hope to be enjoying more “adventure time” with my family before I am 40. In Japan now I work 6 days a week. Most of it is 8-7 with travel sometimes more

      @@R41Z1NRUN Not sure how old the kiddos are, but anything is going to be tough with three seats. My daughters car seat shes in now takes up almost a seat and a half because it's so big. I would say you're going to need a three seater of some sort. A super solid option would be the Cherokee trail hawk, not sure of the price or if it has a 3rd row, but it does have a locking rear diff which is a huge plus obviously.

      @@roamingwithjosh I was looking at the Subaru ascent. The jeeps are super expensive. This would be something mainly for the wife daily. I think we could make the Outback work. Maybe tight but I think once they ditch the baby seats they can manage. The ascent is the next option if we go 3-seater. I’m looking forward to seeing more of yours. If you could even do a video showing the spacing with a baby seat I would really appreciate that. Or just somethjng showing everyone? Looking forward to videos though. You are living my dream!
