I still can't believe this podcast only have 1.6K subscribers on YT. I love the content, I love the questions and I love the consistency. Thank you for keep on putting the great work, it is certainly most appreciated.
Thanks for the love! We love what we do, even if we're only reaching a few folks - Finn
five months later and it's got 3.17 so that's good news! ☻
"What was the goal of the criticism to begin with? If the goal was not to instigate change, if the goal was not to bring about progress, then was the only purpose to try and rain on someone else parade or make yourself feel better by making someone else feel worse" - there is WAY more context to this but what a great quote. The few lines he said before that were awesome too. This is a really intelligent person. I could listen to him talk for hours!!
Thanks for listening and for this thoughtful comment!
Wow! Incredible interview. Kudos on asking so many deep and thought-provoking questions. As someone who has consumed virtually all Barkley content on the internet, this was the best interview I have ever heard. John Kelly was certainly a big part of that with sage and thoughtful answers.
Thank you so much (seriously, means a lot)
Great podcast! Thank you for having John Kelley on!!
Hopefully, a round 2 soon! I'm excited for his attempt at the Appalachian Trail FKT!
Sitting listening to this here in the English Lake District and blown away to hear John talking of the experience he had whilst in the UK. The 3rd type of value to and from the UK running communnity is fantastic. Chapeau John.
That 3rd value was so cool to hear him talk about
Brilliant show. Thank you both.

Ahh thank you! Great quote
@@runsingletrack Yes I love it!
my mind is still blown
Amazing athlete..I think there's some fireworks to come on the Appalachian Trail next..
On another interview John Kelly said that he didn't need to write an essay this year and that previous finishers get automatic race entry and they don't need to submit essays.
ohhhh that's interesting. thank you for the comment, i wasn't aware of that
Why would you pre-arrange tweets to send when the race is on when the race, including its start time, is so unpredictable? How can those tweets be written in advance with any kind of accuracy? What is the point of sending tweets that are pre-written and pre-arranged to send at certain points?
He would know better than I. And I know that I don’t have that motivation.

41 min.. my favorite part. ive told my mom that. I wont just work and go home and sit on a couch
chills..yes, such a good moment..thanks for watching too!
The three guys who finished Barkley have professional careers. They make 5 to 10 times what a professional runner makes. Yet, they are famous for running. You can be a great runner and have a profession. Engineers aren't famous until they finish Barkley. Something wrong with that.
I agree - at least for the moment - that you can be a great runner and have a separate profession. It was that way in the 1950s and 1960s era National Football League..the best players in the league, like Johnny Unitas, had full or part-time jobs outside the sport to make ends meet. But once there was enough money, players took advantage of all the benefits that come from shedding responsibilities in other areas of work to make this there 1 thing and it made it impossible for people that were splitting their time/energy/focus to compete..I suspect we are about 10 years away from that in ultra running
Probably millions of engineers and a handful of Barkley finishers, one is way more impressive than the other. Especially after meeting some of the engineers I've met lol.
Great insight from the red headed Mario.... Hopefully next year he will hit puberty and likely win. 😅

A little too woke at the end.. but overall great content!
“A little too woke” describes nearly all of trail running to be fair.
Thank ya!
Just the right amount of woke IMO. ❤
