I commented they should do an overdrive one after they released the delay and they liked the comment. I would now like to take 100% responsibility for making this pedal happen
mike smith thanks mike!
👏👏👏
thank you so fucking much dude
I hope you're Mike Smith from TPB lol
😂
So a buddy of mine had one of these OD200s sent to him last week to write a review and asked me over to see what I thought of it. Seriously, seriously impressed. I got some stupidly good tones out of my Fender amp that I've NEVER been able to get with any other pedal. If you're a Fender player, you know how difficult it can be to find a good drive pedal other than the vanilla TS or Klon style pedals. But the EQ on this is powerful as hell and with the Brown mode, I really felt as I was playing my Marshall. the routing options and gate make it a no-brainer do it all OD IMO. There are a couple settings that I didn't think sounded too great and had some digital graininess, but the traditional analog OD modes were stellar. I promise I'm not a Boss shill LOL. Admittedly, I am a Boss fan boy but I'm being sincere when I say that this pedal is killer. Definitely check one out if you get the chance.
Was that an interview for a Boss demonstrator position lol
Felix Blacksher do you know if you can independently engage the boost if the OD is bypassed?
Had me at "The boost I've chose is in fact, a Metal Zone"
Insane combination of tones. The fact that you can save 4 different setting and use an expression pedal.... Boss has stepped up HUGE. Thank you Bea for another amazing demo.
Boss version of a Strymon Sunset, less expensive and has a fuzz.
'xactly. Someone finally gets it.
I like them both. But the Boss is a better value.
Boss is super on point in 2019. So many things I want...
This is the best tutorial I've ever seen, there are a lot of videos on CZcams about this pedal but they just play and show their guitar xddd, you explained the configuration, I love this channel
Killer demo! Another great pedal to add to my wishlist BOSS! 🤘🤘
Thanks Rabea! Always good info from you!
32bit ?!?!? That's double a Super Nintendo !!!!!!! That's amazing
So it's a PlayStation!
🤣
The sound CPU of the SNES was 8 bit
There we go! 😂😂😂
Rabea has gear knowledge like no other. And chops!
I feel I'm witnessing the sneak peak of his next album. "Rabea Massaad: Grinding Gears 3 - Hybrid Boss" Man is a beast!
This is fantastic! Seems incredibly powerful and versatile.
Rabea was a perfect choiceto present this pedal was well.
Love the OD1x/DS1X. The digital into valve combo is just a great way to easily dial in a killer tone, will be picking this up ASAP.
I love the OD-1X. Currently have 2 on my board. Seriously underrated overdrive.
I pre-ordered an OD-200. I think it’s going to be amazing.
David Fracasso dead set. Underrated. DSP into analogue gives you the best of both worlds. I have a spark - ts9 -DS1x (replacing DS1) that covers my bases. OD1x makes the odd appearance.
A you do a drive / more drive with this pedal without having to flip thru the memory banks to go back to basic drive?
If I can get a HM 2 sound out of this too then I am sold.
Sounds massive!
Great video and awesome guitar player !!! WOW !!! 🔥
I just wanted to come back and give a ' thumbs up " to Boss ! They just updated this unit to save 128 presets . Well done ! Only 5 savable presets when it first came out was laughable .... I left a comment to that effect 2 months ago and also contacted Boss with my concerns ( obviously not the only one lol ) to my delight there was an update resolving this oversight ..... But again Kudos to Boss ! The versatility of this unit is top notch ! Highly recommended ! Great job on the Demo Rebea !
Is better buy this or 3-4 stomp? Like Blues Driver, SuperOverdrive and Overdrive Pedal?
You have to remember it is digital so there is some give an take as far as tone goes ..... as for flexibility it goes along way !
@@todda.2088 No, it's both Analogue and Digital
Hi Rabea, I keep smiling whenever I watch your chin during your guitar playing. :-)
thanks for uploading
Great review
Nice playing rabea
That's great!! What a great pedal that is!! Boss and Roland rule the planet!!🤘🎸👍😄
Awesome thanks!!
This t-shirt 🙌
Santa - can you please grab me these boss 200 series for christmas - these are amazing!!!
Choosing the metal zone as the boost circuit on top of a fuzz: like a boss! (see what I did there)
Rabea 🎸🎸👏
Crikey can he play.. amazing video rabea
It’s so awesome to see Bea advertising for Boss 🤘🏻
Your holding screen looks very like the cover of Maggot Brain for this movie 💛
ya definitely getting one of these.
Just bought my first pedal. It was an SD-1
you could have bought this one
I want to hear this od 200 without the waza expander. So, straight into a guitarcombo.
Sou mto fã dos produtos da boss... desde sempre...
Hugs and bends
Best seller on the business. If he put a stomp on a pizza slice on the floor he’d make a great sound out of it and I’d save money to buy it.
Got this pedal and I love it, sounds great, and stacking drives with noise gate works pretty good. Question I have that I can't figure out is: how to check the current value of a preset. Seems like this would be a no brainer feature, but I don't see it. Anyone know how to do this?
Muy buen pedal
Does the boost also works when the pedal is on bypass/off?
That's Metal Zone MKIII. Probably the best distortion pedal on the market.
Is it possible to use the Roland EV5 as an extended on/off switch?? The idea is to have the pedal sit on top of the amp (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) while the EV-5 is near my feet to bypass it and get a clean tone. Is that possible?
For me this is breaking news! I searched so long for an analog sounding overdrive pedal with midi function. There are not many overdrive pedals with presets / midi function. The pedals that do exist are sounding digital, not like the real thing. Now I can swap out some analog overdrives (4 piecies) and put this pedal on my pedalboard with midi switcher! Boss stepped up on this one.
Better yet, is that most of the modes on this pedal are using actual analog paths and clipping diodes, just like in their standard OD pedals. Not emulations like most other pedals of this type which are entirely DSP.
@@LeviBulger Did not know that! Thats why this pedal does sound good.
@@noelhoekstra6852 Exactly!
There's only a few others out there: Chase Bliss leads the pack with the Condor and the Brothers, and the Elektron Analog Drive is the other that comes to mind (but it looks kinda clunky IMO).
@@RobFlaxMusic True! But I dont like the way those pedals sound. The pedals alternate the sound, not that transparent.
the release date for the od 200 keeps getting pushed back, what's up?
This pedal is all great and everything but what what song Bea is playing for the first couple minutes of this video?
It's called Brute Force. It's his own song.
this seems to be the most serious competitor of my strymon riverside
If you like the sound why is this a competitor?
Just because I'm about to have a G.A.S
gilles k Boss distortion no thanks
@@shckltnebay are you a strymon employee? -;) ;-) I own a bunch of strymon pedals but I'm getting curious about this guy
OD 200
gilles k lol no just not a Boss distortion fan, why can’t I dislike the truly bland sounds of this pedal, wasn’t impressed with the DD500 either. Rabea is being paid to promote this!!!!!! FYI my favorite dist pedal is The Elements you probably never heard it.
I've had mine for a day. It sounds great but i'm confused on the difference between the "Mode" and the "Param" button and the "Param" knob. For example: can I have a preset in "oUd" Mode, but select a boost "type" of "SCr"? I tried doing this but the display seems to be indicating that i've changed the mode from "oUd" to "SCr".
Gary Clements me too. Also I don’t get how to engage series or parallel structure. Th manual is not very helpful.
All your base are belong to us! I've been looking at DIY peds and mods, but them damned Roland elves are playing in an alternate universe!
So, how many of the OD choices are analog? All of them? Is the digital part of the pedal referring to the noise gate and presets etc?
He did say a/d-d/a conversion so fked if I know.
Also, is it analog dry-through? If not, I'm out.
Im new to playing electric but can i get most of the metal core or metal zone sounds and tones out of this model? As im trying to mimick the sound i can get as close as the megadeth rythem guitar. Any advise is appreciated. I have a Katana 50 MKll that i use solely by the way.
Would this sound good through my Roland JC40? Trying to have a nice versatile rig for live use
I hope that the boost can work standalone
Can you make a video on overdrive comparison or versus pedal performance, on the boss wazacraft one, the evh od pedal, and the soldano and this one too?
Will this work for bass as well? Or will the low end be gone ?
It sounds good in metal and also in metal. And if I push this button here and pick up a telecaster it can sound good in metal.
Good fkr you Rabea and good for Boss
I feel like I am still struggling to understand the pedal, can anyone recommend some sample settings or a video that shows - do this - then that?
Check out this video from our friend Pete Thorn - this might help - czcams.com/video/q1ubIkNUIPw/video.html
Well i bought this after your awesome vid i member the first time seeing you on andertons your one of my favorite guitar players man.moving on i really need help on the od 200 i dont know how to stack what buttons to hit and hold please help me bud tim from london ontario canada
Bought one, attempted the firmware update, did not complete successfully partly due to unclear instructions, sent it for service and after 2 weeks Roland Malaysia advises me I need to buy a new one! There is no way to fix it. And the item was marked Made in Malaysia!
Is this a disposable product? Only got to use it for 2 days.
boss please made new boss me 90, put this OD 200 in there.. plus acoustic effects 😭
i would probobably sell all my old pedals or keep them as backup and remove them from my board and just use this drive to save space along with my nux and wah im trying to make a real simpleized setup with two heads and a cab and i just got an ab switch run one on clean and the other dirty tones so this pedal would be awesome if its all the hype they say it is its so high though
its almost the same as a wampler pinacle which you can get a used one now for decent but this has so many sounds and features in it i might get it for my birthday
I've never needed more than a DS-1 and a SD-1 to cover my OD/Distortion needs. The OD200 is more than three times the price of a DS-1 + SD-1 and apart from a slightly smaller footprint it just doesn't make sense to me. It's a good pedal but I've been using the DS-1 and SD-1 for so long now I can't justify adding a OD200. For people new to the game though I think the OD200 is worth considering as once you match it to a delay or mod pedal of your choice you'd have a pretty compact and usable setup that covers a lot of ground.
I want one.
Some sounds are close to a Mesa rectifier.
Has anyone succeeded in connecting a dvp4 as an expression pedal?
Has anyone figured out how to save a patch in bypass mode ?
Missing a FF and a Octafuzz model, but other than that: great
And missing more preset slots.. Hmm. Hoping for a OD-500 to go with my MD/RV/DD-500 then.
Get ready! Betting Strymon comes out with their version which will dominate
Nice sounds, but I wish they kept the original Twin Pedal design...
No jack to play directly?
Im lookin for a smooth positive harmonic overdrive. One with NO HARSH CLIP OR HISS.
Not sure what you mean by positive harmonics... But check out some of Barber Electronics stuff. I have a Burn Unit EQ and that is a super smooth overdrive. No longer in production though but if you can find one I can highly recommend it! Similar pedals are the Barber Small Fry and Barber BUSS. A more commonly available pedal I used to love is the MXR M77 Custom Badass Modified O.D. Anyways... happy hunting!
How would these drives compare with the onboard drives on the Boss MS-3?
They are a step up, especially the X-Drive and X-Distortion. I use the MS-3 and the drives are decent, but with the OD200 in loop 1 there is far more versatility. Plus you can recall up to 128 presets on the OD200 using the midi out from the MS-3. I would recommend it - and I've used all kinds of OD pedals from King of Tone to CB Brothers to Fulldrive v3. I'm really happy with it so far.
@@timdouglas620 This is exactly the type of answer I was looking for. I have an MS-3 and looking for something more on the dirt side of things. Was looking into either a Chase Bliss Brothers or a compact revival drive then this little boss unit popped up in my radar.
CZcams did not alert me until now. The algorithm no longer services my needs.
funny, I've been super hungry and waiting for this pedal, the online place I go through, american musical, has kept pushing the release date back a month here and a month there. now hearing this video, the tones sound the same. don't hear much of a difference with all the distortions he has shown. cool idea, I want other companies to come out with a multi distortion with different brands available. maybe cause they are all boss tones they all the same
I got mine from American music two weeks ago. Basically it replaces the need for any of my other distortion or overdrive pedals. As a metal/hardcore player I give this pedal a 10 out of 10
I want the same shirt. Where can I get one?
Im havin to resolder my battery jack on me old handmedown OD 1 right now. How is this 200 by way of hiss and noize?????????
All those options are so do it all!!!!! I used to split and paralell with a hm2
With the built in noise gate it works awesome
Why do I feel like I just obtained a post graduate qualification.
So am I the only one wondering about the most important function of this pedal...? How do I toggle between drives within a song...? Do I have to bend down to the manual buttons or do I have to 3 clicks with my foot...? How do you toggle...?
MIDI most likely
Will a standard pedal 12v adapter run this guys??
Looks like it takes a special kind of adapter. Also takes three AA batteries!
the most important question: will it chainsaw? (hm-2 tones?)
If it did it would've put many small builders out of business.
@@NorgGrimm true story
Whats the Voltage?
don't know if its the amps used but it all sounds too sharp and piercing
7:40 so it Djents...
Source Audio did this before. They
Also have an insane amount of options in a pedal smaller than this.
SA is completely digital. This uses actual analog components like clipping diodes, caps, etc. Very different tonally. I liked the Ventris and Nemesis, but for overdrive pedals, you just can't beat actual analog components.
@@LeviBulger Yeah but the LA Lady/Kingmaker are both really good. You can EQ out any of the slight top end hiss that comes with full a/d-d/a.
As I understand it, this Boss uses digital clipping (emulates, ie: DSP) as well as analog.
Kismet from Ramble FX similar combìnation of digital and analog. I love mine! :)
Bea what song was this O.o
are those distortion modes digital or analog? can i stack 2 different modes?
Terrible demo...
What's not to like?!
Pensé que Marcelo dejó el Madrid para dedicarse a las reviews...
is this more for the metal market? i want more crunch & indie sounds? thks
It really seems to have everything. Has blues driver, klon, tube screamer, fuzz settings. But like half the settings are really just for metal lol
Got one, there’s an insane range of tones.
Can anyone explain if this has the actual analog SD1 circuit in it?
All tones sound like a 90s solid state peavey
Well that’s his base tone, so...
I'm not sure that's as much a slight to Rabea's tone as much as it's a compliment to the tone of 90's SS Peaveys.
Those are great amps, full stop.
@@snouter I mean it's better than your wanky atonal improv from July, buddy. Sounds you're beating somebody to death with a sitar underwater.
@@snouter yeah dude you're an absolute trash guitarist compared to Rabea lmao
Is this a Analog or Digital ?
Both. It's hybrid.
All the bells and whistles but no stereo ins and outs.
mampir dulu
i am very disappointed because you can not use the boost alone without t...what a shame...i was hoping to hav e the option to use the clean boost independantly....
