Gigi Trailer - Directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Leslie Caron, Maurice Chevalier, Louis Jourdan, Hermione Gingold, Eva Gabor. Weary of the conventions of Parisian society, a rich playboy and a youthful courtesan-in-training enjoy a platonic friendship, but it may not stay platonic for long.

I watched this on vhs as a kid everyday after school. This, and my fair lady will always be my favorite
Just hearing the intro music makes me tear up! I used to watch this with my grandmother. I had no idea what it was really about, but I thought it was lovely! ❤
The old man tahnking heaven for little girls? Right after he told us he collects younger things?
I'm a kid and I love old stuff
One of my favorite classic movie I watched with my mom🙏🏾. Great movie, cast and vocals❤️
What a delight . Great acting , wonderful music and a funny , warm and delightful story. I could watch it over and over.
You do realise this warm light hearted story is about a woman who has no choice but force her underage daughter for prostitution, but the guy ends up falling in love with her and marry her as she break the mold.
@@Rienneil We are talking about Paris in the 1800's...

you right ,.
I love the fact that I have the same name as this musical
Named after this movie Hardly no one says my name correct! Its amazing how my life is like the movie
This is such a gorgeous movie! Honestly I'm in love with it
How??? It's based off pedophiles
I'm not crazy about Gaston and Gigi ending up together, but I love the characters! I love the costumes, I love the music more than anything else about this movie, and it's fun watching Gigi grow up
@@Imani_AM it's all it takes for you to fall for it though, the first song that the old man singed was about little girls. Do you not think about your daughters or your younger siblings ?? Does it not bother you?? I'm sorry I just dont know what is to like about any of this. Its creepy, idk how people were so blinded back then,
@@almareyes2192 Well societal standards change over time and this was acceptable at the time setting of the film, so we can't really blame the movie
@@lalaball_ truee💯 but gosh that movie shouldn't even be a thing anymore I seen it on Netflix and thought it was a joke a first once the old man started singing about little girls. But I guess it ain't and people actually liked this glad those times are over. That's like one of the worst events that's ever happened in human history besides genocides.
Maurice Chevalier was the grandfather everyone wished they had.
You couldn't wish for a nicer pimp.
This movie is really problematic nowadays but it was my favorite as a child and it’s honestly so beautiful and lovely.
I agree! I never felt uncomfortable with the subject matter until re-watching the clip now in 2020. I had this movie on VHS and used to watch it over and over
Honestly we have to stop with the problematic nonsense, this was a thing back then where 16 year olds were considered adults
@@medalgear654 that doesn't make it ok
@@CherryCowgirl but that was still the thing and we can't change that. Its more problematic to not acknowledge that and pretend it didn't.
@@medalgear654 no one's saying we have to ignore it. We just don't need it on CZcams
Saw this on tv many years ago. Lovely movie. Recommended.
I’m about to watch this movie for the first time
It's so good!
@@elizabethr4107 it is indeed
While the story doesn’t hold up well, the movie looks gorgeous.
I love this movie. I remember it being a favourite of my grandmother's. But somehow I remember a dinner scene where the young lady used powdering her nose as a mannerly way of using the bathroom. But i watched it the other day and didnt see it.
My reply is a little late, but I know the scene you're talking about. Gaston gives Gigi an emerald bracelet (at Maxim's) and all the other people dining there started staring at her and the bracelet. Gaston suggests that she go ask the lady in the powder room to help her with the clasp.
Pongan la película completa please
Awesome
*never knew the source of these songs before now.*

For pedophiles huhhh
@@almareyes2192 Oh stop it was 1900 🙄
Why does it make it seem like Gigi was released after My Fair Lady, in the beginning?
I wish a got to see the stage Muiscal !
I’m here because of little edie Beale mentioned watching this in the documentary “ the beales of grey gardens “
LOL. 'France fell, but Edie didn't'.
With the partial exception of Charles Boyer, no French male star has broken through in America since Maurice. In the early Thirties he was the biggest thing in musicals.
Gabin, Montand, Belmondo, Delon, Depardieu... all underachievers. Others such as Raimu, Barrault, Fernandel, Marais and Gerard Philippe never tried. Pourquoi?
How dare you call this HD... :-(
So What !
But--it is cinemascope and metrocolor.!!!
The movie was done in 1958, so you know it wasn't released in wide screen like this. So HD in this sense only means HD format but not high resolution. It was originally filmed in wide screen for theater screens and had to be modified to fit television broadcast and now released in its original format since tv monitors and other devices can display it in its original form.
How dare yall accept pedophiles

why can't I find Gigi anywhere to watch it?
Its in Google play store!
Honestly, this is a beautiful movie. The songs, costumes, direction etc. The concept... yikes! Very risky. An aunt training (pimping) her niece to be a society side piece. An older man falling in love with a high school aged student. In a time of ME TOO movement... I'm surprised that NO ONE has mentioned this movie.
I mean you said it. No one has mentioned it. Unlike My Fair Lady and other musicals of the time this isn't something people really know of nowadays. I had never heard of this until we had to study the novella for my English degree, nor had anyone in my class.
darling, many families, both rich and poor, would arrange their daughters to marry very much Gigi's age back in the day and how many girls lose their virginity nowadays at the age of 14 and younger? so please ... your indignant self-righteousness needs to pipe down.
I’m 26, and I first watched it when I was about 14. It’s still one of my favorite films, but I now have so many complicated feelings about it, especially Gaston’s first realization song, and the idea that Gigi went along with courtesanship and eventually marriage out of love for her friend, not necessarily romantic love. I very much wish they’d had *some* indication of sexual awakening/romantic feelings on her end too. If I were to take the risk of adapting it in these times, that would be a key element.
This has nothing to do with ME TOO era movement , ugh!! millennials , gen z and their silly thoughts !!
But in the end the strong young lady holds out for marriage. Too many women, especially to get ahead, pimp themselves out then point fingers later. This was a wonderful movie in every way.

Hollywood's idea of glorifying pedophilia.. Gigi (in the original book was only 15 1/2 years old. and the man was 33 years old. His uncle starts out the movie singing, "Thank Heaven for little girls.." This is a movie about an inappropriate relationship that made it look as if pedophilia was a normal thing. typical of Hollywood.
Yesss I thought I was the only one!!!💯
It was 1900
It was such a thing back then, even Colette herself, the author had an affair with a 16 year old boy when way older
Things are different now. She's of age. Not a real child
Enter Chris Hansen What are you doing here help me out you came to see a 15 year old guuuurrrrrl .
Thank havens for little girls 💀....
I know 🤢
Who was Colette, I never heard any mention of her.
Steve Phillips an author in France
She was an author who started her carrier being forced to ghost write under her husband name, later gaining creative freedom from him. Wrote quite a lot, actually.
This movie is disgusting dont watch it. And if you did dont like it because you are approving pedophiles

Michelle williams must plays leslie caron, they have simillar face!!!
But she lacks class!
Apart from the slightly icky story, the trailer boasts it is 'exactly as presented' on Broadway, and there's the rub.
Despite MGM, Freed and Minnelli, the filmusical was moving away from originality. 'Funny Face' in 1956 was written for the screen, 'Silk Stockings' (1957) adapted 'Ninotchka', but after 'Gigi' and the dissolution of dedicated studio teams, blockbuster musicals would try to reduce the risk of failure by leaning on New York's proven hits: 'West Side Story', 'My Fair Lady', 'Sound of Music', 'Funny Girl', 'Hello Dolly', 'Music Man'. The purely cinematic creativity of a concept such as 'An American in Paris' or 'The Band Wagon' was exchanged for attempts at 'opening out' stage shows which did not always mask their staginess.
My dad is gonna make me watch this movie with my grandpa rn.pray for me🙏😩
Ewweeeee really your dad and then you are to watch this with your grandpa ??? What kind of men role models do you have??? Please tell me you hated this movie because if not you are just being brain washed like them to think pedophiles are acceptable 😬😬😬🙄

@@almareyes2192 It was a metaphor. He was angry at the grandmother because he had always looked at her as a young girl. But it didn't even occur to him how much she has changed. And once he did he realized that he was in love with her. It wasn't pedophilia in 1900. It was completely normal. Also it is not okay to tell someone that their father and grandfather are "bad role models" because they watched a historical movie. No one takes moral lessons from a movie musical. Literally calm down. You have clearly never seen any old musicals if you think this is bad 😂
