I live in Salt Lake City, utah. I've been inside Nutty putty cave... several times. It was a popular spot in junior high. I couldn't ever make it past the first part though. You had to lay flat and scoot on your stomach through an area that was maybe two feet from floor to ceiling, which eventually opened up into all the little passage ways. It was freezing, pitch black, very tightly cramped etc. Looking back, I can not believe i even went that far. I'm terrified of small spaces. Thinking about it makes me feel panicked. The incident that led them to sealing it happened in my 20s. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, honestly. It was basically just cracks reaching deep into the ground. Utah is a beautiful place. I live for the mountains. But there's also nooks and crannies everywhere. Don't venture into them without serious consideration and preparation.
Is it true that more people in Utah enjoy caves? I've been off-roading in Utah many times, but never visited a cave.

Another good story. I believe your 3rd explanation is what happened. The combination of the bad air and the icy cold water probably caused Jennifer to black out soon after entering and she created a log jam that trapped the others as well. Such a tragedy.
