    I agree, if you plan on off-roading a lot and keeping everything stock, get the Pro. If you plan on doing anything more serious get the TRD Off- road and add a 3" lift and some real off road tires. You will still be way less and have more capability. Have a 2014 Trail (basically the same as a TRD Off Road) with the lift and tires I am very happy with it. Just had it off road yesterday. Kept up with the Wranglers, TRD Pro's, Tacoma's and even a G Wagon. For a mall crawler just get the SR5. Some shiny wheels and nothing else, and you will have a great reliable family SUV and save even more.

Got it on a whim calling the local Toyota dealer and they let me know there was one scheduled for delivery, so I had them hold it for me 🎉. Midnight black metallic w/KDSS and came with running boards which was all a pleasant surprise on the day of pickup. Knew the color before getting it, just not the optional equipment. Discovered that the tires were all inflated to 55psi about a week into driving it, so be sure to check the tire pressure before you leave the lot! 😅

    In Texas the ORP are hard to find. Some states like Colorado and New Mexico do not sell ORPs to out of state customers. Dealers make purchasing these vehicles difficult. Can’t wait until you can purchase Toyotas directly from the manufacturer and skip the greedy non sense dealers.

    There are a lot of little things that the Pro has over the premium... for example at 6:40, you show the climate controls and they are much more simplistic lacking the LED display and dual climate zones. You'd also mentioned the missing front camera. In a vehicle this tall, the front camera can be very useful even if you're not doing a lot of offroading. You're also missing out on the 360 view. The loss of the Fox shocks is nothing to sneeze at as the upgrade and install price is quite substantial. Some things like the climate controls and front camera, you can't necessarily upgrade at any price. The exhaust that comes stock with the pro is over $1300 and it's made of stainless steel... you'll most likely never need to replace it over the life of the vehicle and the side exit is much less likely to be damaged.
    As for upgrading the suspension, get a jeep if you want to go big. SUVs with independent front suspension are not easily lifted and are much more expensive to modify versus vehicles with a solid front axle. Also, the 4Runner's front diff case is easily damaged when lifted. The extra angle on the front drive shafts is the problem so if you like expensive repairs, by all means do a 3" lift. The stock suspension has enough clearance for going offroad. That lift and larger tires will dramatically degrade the on road comfort, safety, and gas mileage of your new 4Runner... not to mention possible voiding the warrantee on the drivetrain.
    I've seen several videos on this exact topic and many of then sound like desperate justifications to compensate for the buyer's remorse after not having gotten the Pro to begin with. Buying the Premium and then spending tons of money and time trying to make it more like the Pro is stupid. Buy the Premium because it best suits the type of driving you're going to do or buy the Pro for the same reason. And, if you're going to "mall crawl" as you say, don't buy a body on frame truck like the 4Runner to start with... there are lots of SUVs with 4 wheel independent suspension that are more comfortable and more luxurious, get better gas mileage, are easier to get in and out of, and still will get you around in the snow and up and down the occasional gravel road.
    I'm not trying to flame you, but I don't agree with the idea of buying a new vehicle and having to make upgrades to it as soon as you drive it off the lot to make it more like the model you passed on. There are a lot more things you get for the extra 8K than the wheels. It's wrong to talk about the $8K price difference like it's just a set of wheels and tires. Those will cost you about $950 for the wheels and another +-$1000 for the tires and at least $250-$400 for mounting and balancing. The SS exhaust will be another $1500 with tax and install. The Fox shocks are around $1400-1800. Toyota lists the front skid plate at $359.00 not including tax and installation which adds another $150-250... we're in the $6000 zone without addressing the front camera and climate control differences, the roof rack, etc.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@christopherbahena2641 I think you should go with what you want and that also depends on what you're going to do with the vehicle. I usually buy the top trim for any car I buy. Number one berceuse I like nice cars and trucks but also because they tend to hold their value better.
      Look at the used TRD Pros in the more popular colors. They tend to be unavailable or are bringing a higher price.
      Personally, I bought a 23 Pro in Solar Octane. I'm not going to do anything extreme because there are only a few offroad trails in my area. A perch lift and slightly larger tires will be more than enough as far as mods and I won't be rushing to do those. More likely, I'll swap the headlights and tail lights for LEDs and sell the original buckets online while they are still shinny and new. Other than that, there's not a lot I want to change.

    • @MyRCChannel-CJScott
      @MyRCChannel-CJScott Před 8 měsíci +3

      @@christopherbahena2641 All of the 4runners are very reliable vehicles... 15 years or 300,000 miles. And they run great on regular gas which will save you a lot of money over the life of the vehicle. If you have kids, the pro may not be your best choice. You might want to go with a trim that's a little lower and comes with a more street oriented tire and suspension setup... unless you and the wife like vacationing somewhere like North Carolina beaches where you can drive on the sand and you like surf fishing with the kids. Then a more offroad worthy trim is your thing. See, it all depends.

      Bought my 2020 TRD ORP 4x4 in September of 2020 while it was still on the transport boat from Japan. Had to wait 6 weeks for it, however the dealer LOVES a quick turnover. They have virtually no overhead in it, they get paid a base rate (commission) between $750-$1700 just to "flip" the vehicle anyway.
      My sales guy had taken my want/must have list and was trying to transfer one in but found this one as an allotment to them and called me (I suspect he ordered it knowing it would sell quickly regardless).
      TRD ORP Suspension package (Bilstien 5100 not Fox), Sunroof/Moonroof, All Crawl Controls etc, 4x4 manual shifter, TRD Venture Gunmetal gray alloy wheels, TRD PRO Black Chrome performance exhaust, TRD Off Road interior, Dash cam system, Badging blacked out, TRD Pro skid plates, Predator Step Bars, Premium sound system and......TRD (not PRO) all weather mats throughout. ALL FACTORY INSTALLED OPTIONED. I did not set out to "clone" a PRO, I wanted the Factory Options available built to my liking.
      The differences: NO KDSS by choice (not on PRO anyway saved $2700), Pro Front grille (don't care but $379), separate HVAC controls(don't care), remote start(that I can add $879), roof rack(don't care $439), lift/level kit(eh retrospect should have $1200), and off road aggressive tires(buy my own $???), front terrain camera(undecided but can if I want ???).
      The TRD PRO I was looking at MSRP'd at $54,748 and he could not even talk about negotiating. My build TRD ORP MSRP'd at $48,178 and I am a confidant buyer because I was a Cash Buyer and WILLING TO WAIT. No financing, no issues, no problems, quick and smooth transaction. Don't forget to factor in Tag/Tax/Title which you are going to have to pay for anyway in your chosen State.....(mine was about $2700=$46,200 total ouch haha).
      Why pay for a suspension though if you are going to build your own and "toss" or have to sell the Fox factory stuff away right? And the KDSS is VERY limiting to upgrades hence the delete button on that.
      $3500 later I have a Full LED package inside and out, Readylift 3/2 lift and level kit with diff drop (Dealer installed), and K02's @ 285/75/R17 (all 5, Dealer installed) and can crawl anywhere a PRO can (while saving $6K-ish).
      Morale of the story: Do your own research, research, research on wants/must haves, deal with a larger dealership (Regional), always deal with the same salesperson (they are investing THEIR time in YOU as well so they deserve the sale!!!!!), be willing to wait walk away or find another salesperson if you feel they are too carsalesmanyish(yeah I made that up = pushy), and have your OWN "financing" set up WAY before you start getting serious cash financing bank or whatever. Haggled a good bit (and reminded them that I saw they had sold one very nearly identical a week earlier for $43,100 because that one was why I called initially but it had a deposit already) and they came down to $44,700 on a Tuesday night, told them $43,500 was my final price. Said they just could not do that so I politely thanked him and said I would keep looking and call me if he found the "next" right one. Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM got a text saying that if I was serious, then they wanted my business at MY PRICE!
      Do not be afraid to ask, however DO be prepared and confident.
      I'm driving mine everyday and still love it.....and remember that it is their job......TO SELL CARS haha! They are NOT losing money.....just not making as much as they WANT off of ME(YOU)!
      Sorry know this is a long read, just hope this helps some folks.......your experience may vary just advice from mine.....Happy Trails!

    I think the other issue with deciding between the Pro and Premium is warranty. If you buy a Premium and mod it yourself with a lift, shocks and tires will Toyota still warranty it? If not then some might opt for the Pro, has the popular mods but factory warranty.

    • @pinky882
      @pinky882 Před rokem +1

      You can add aftermarket parts and still maintain a factory warranty. Toyota would have to prove that the aftermarket parts were the cause of the problem to void the warranty. If just installing aftermarket parts voided factory warranties, the aftermarket part market probably wouldn't exist. There is more to it than that, but just installing aftermarket parts does not void the factory warranty, no matter what anyone tells you.

    Maybe I misunderstood, however the TRD Off Road is as capable or more so (if you get the KDSS system) with regards to regular slow speed off-roading. The Pro has great shocks for higher speed desert driving (think BAJA 500) when compared with the Off Road. The real difference between the two are aesthetic and convenience offerings (Wheels, Roof Rack, Auto HVAC, and Auto Headlights and maybe better initial dealer offered tires). Other than that, both offer the same 4x4 system with locking rear diff, Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select, and the best of all ATRAC. So if you want a Go-To-The-Mall daily driver, the SR5 Premium or the Limited are awesome options.
