This video can make even the messiest/care free person a germaphobe. Cleaning is good, dusting is good, and making your indoor air quality better is also good...but don’t let it control your life.
I agree. We live together with these little life forms. I believe in good hygiene with a healthy perspective, rather than a going for a sterile environment. I've read that the proliferation of antibacterial hand soaps has led to all sorts of bacterial bloom and resistant strains. And in actual fact, ordinary soap does the job. IT's marketing...
@@MiuMiuG Exactly! Even now with covid, the doctors say we must wash our hands thoroughly with regular soap and if soap is not available then use hand sanitizer!
Agreed! Our home germs are actually really good for our immune systems, especially for young kids! Our immune systems handle quite a bit of these scary sounding particles. Only people with sever allergies should be concerned about air purifiers.
@@MiuMiuG yes, yes yes!
I got a air filter for my bedroom about a month ago. I’m definitely noticing that I’m sleeping better.
Can you do a video about shower curtain cleaning and maintenance?
I never miss a new YT and was totally taken back when you said they found a dust mite in the sample. I would of never guess you would have one with all the vacuuming and dusting you do. So with that said I"m upping my game by vacuuming every other day because we have three dogs that are groomed monthly, and bedding washed also. and for our mattress every time I change sheets I will vacuum my mattress too. This was a so much of a eye opener for me. THANK YOU for being so open about your house, it made me think about mine, and what I need to do.
Oh my stars, I'm so glad you aired this. Thank you also in the comments of the air purifier on how much humidity I should have and not have reg allergies and mold that might grow. Thank you from Valdosta, Ga
My little tips: I change my AC filter on the 15th of every month. The same day, I also add those little yellow sticks in my drains.
I change the sheets on Wednesday and vacuum my mattress before remaking the bed. My dryer has a steam setting, so I steam my pillows and blankets while the sheets are washing. 😃
I like this.
What are the little yellow sticks?
Air out bed before making it
@@TyrannicalMatriarch They are called sani sticks. I don't care for them, and didn't see any difference , maybe works for others.
Oh My G'Ness.... I feel I'm doomed!!! If this was in your home, I can't even imagine the colonies of unseen critters living in my home!!! I am glad you shared this though.... It makes me want to pay MORE attention to this, as I spend a LOT of time in my home now!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Melissa I am absolutely addicted to your videos! You have helped so much! I would truly appreciate it you did a video/series how to actually maintain whole home clean. I loved your small spaces one from a couple years ago!! Could you do one focusing on your new house? Thank you so much for considering!!!!
We are busy working on a whole spring series dedicated to cleaning routines and schedules! Stay tuned!
@@cleanmyspace yay!!!!!! I'm beyond excited!!!!
Now, I am glad that I read the comments. I just asked a somewhat similar question. I'm looking forward to this.
Such an amazing learning experience!
Loved this. I would love to see a weekly/monthly/yearly. I’m looking to purchase my first home and would love to see a video that talks about what should be cleaned to maintain your home weekly/monthly/yearly. My goal is to make a few spreadsheets so I keep my home well cleaned and healthy
The best thing for me about watching her awesome videos is I get motivated to go clean something!!!
Finally, you’re saying ‘air out your matrass’. We do every day and it grosses me out that people make their bed right away.
Interesting thx
You vaccum it?
OMG! thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. I am going to clean now 😊
Wow thank you for this video.
Thank you for motivating me to vacuum and mop the crap out of my apartment right now!
same!
Melissa, thank you so much for all this information if I wasn’t a Germafobe before, I am now
I normally wash my pets bedding and blankets, but I’m getting up in morning and washing them again,
And I’m vacuuming very very good tomorrow, I’m ready to clean, like right now. LOL
THANK YOU YOU ARE A BOOK OF ANSWERS, AND I APPRECIATE YOU ALWAYS, YOUVE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH HOW TO CLEAN
I saw the title and went “uuhhhhh 👀” because I know my air quality it terrible. But now I’ll know how to help with that!!
Candles too contribute to VOC’s so many people burn candles every day.
That's a thing??burning candles ...everyday?
@@desireereynolds577 yes some people do, those scented jar candles
Ok. I just wondered. I grew up in a home with people sensitive to scents so I just never noticed.. and as an adult it never occurred to me to buy candles that smell good to burn in my house
If you have a pet: dust regularly, vacuum regularly and buy a decent air purifier
Solid advice Mitch!
You might have missed the CBC marketplace review on air purifiers. They compared a few different models, including Dyson, and Dyson was the second worst at purifying the air of the 4 brands reviewed. Ouch!
Was about to comment this too
But, it's expensive. Pretty sure the main reason she included it was because Dyson sponsored the video.
@@tdginter of course, and got a complimentary air filter.
Were they reviewing their top 4 picks? If that's the case ranking in the top 3 of air purifiers is still pretty good right?
Well, yikes. I was aware of a lot of this already but it always makes me creeped out at the thought. In an old house with pets, dust is seriously hard to keep up with so I've been vacuuming more often. What I haven't done lately is my mattress. Ewww, I am SO doing my mattress! Thank you for the reminder.
I really love the pink walls
Me panic vaccuuming and airing out my home when watching this
I needed to see this!
..thank you for watching it!
@@cleanmyspace I found a recipe for a cleaner the gets rid of the hard water stains.
It is 2 cups of water
2 amd a half table spoons of citric acid
And one teaspoon of soap.
There is no vinegar smell and it works better than vinegar in my experience. Citric acid is real cheap too
It also works much faster than vinegar, also, feel free to add more acid if necessary.
Do you know what someone should do if they get teargas in their home and has limited supplies? Getting chemicals out of surfaces and airways? Is it the same as just cleaning and wiping everything down? (Asking for friend in Myanmar)
I have friends in Taunggyi. I hope your friend is safe.
Could You give us any advice on how to clean old radiators, thank You.
I am loving your videos, great tip. One thing I've noticed though, is you mention other videos you have done and say click her but I never see a link.
Great video ,,Melissa!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dave in Ohio
Great timing on indoor air quality. Just got news today that following a refrigerator leak a month ago the house mold tests from our landlord came back + May explains symptoms we've had for awhile! Just our luck tho. Literally we have used room air purifiers for 15 years only to stop 6 months ago because the filters were overdue for a change. I ordered new ones months ago but only 1 arrived but I paid for 2, and the one that came had weird rust spots with goop. The company did not answer my email. Frustrating! Definitely getting air purifiers sorted tomorrow!
What kind of symptoms were you having? I'm in a apartment have had leaks and feel like it's from mold.
@@tinahinote4104 Mainly Headaches, respiratory, extreme fatigue. No cough or sneeze per se more like asthma and wheezing. Hope you get your apartment figured out! xo
@@MotherMuse Thank you so much.
What do you think is the best way to clean hardwood floors ??
Question for you. I did purchase a Dyson (actually 2--one for home and one for my office) and I was wondering how much do you use the 'Max' setting when you vacuum? Thank you
Very interesting dust mites 😩
I highly suggest against washable filters. Get the Rheem merv 4 filters at homedepot and chage them once a month. Washable filters allow so much dust through and it can lead to a clogged evap coil that will cost a very pretty penny to clean
Who else will be cleaning ALL weekend after watching this video?
We have a dog that sheds and we change our furnace filter every month.
Is there a link to the air purifier?
My parents had a dehumidifier in the basement. I need to think about this. My dogs are everything to me so I will always have a dog 🐕 💓 💕 in my home. Try to clean everything once a week. Joan Bates
I vacuumed yesterday, but am about to do it again because now I’m itchy 😂 I wouldn’t trade my Dyson vac or heat & cool purifier for any other brand!
Is it really great? It sounds really awesome.
@@th3azscorpio I love the cordless vac & the purifier. Mine isn’t the same as hers, but it works well as I have a smoker downstairs & the smoke comes up, but this removes the odor!
@@TraceB according to multiple people that have commented the Dyson brand has one of the worst ratings.
@@th3azscorpio I have the Dyson Animal cordless vacuum. I never thought I would spend $600 on a vacuum cleaner, but it is so well worth it. I have three cats. I can vacuum every single day and the see- through canister gets filled up so fast, that it is shocking. it's extremely powerful. And you don't have to flip a switch when you change between hardwood floors and carpeting.
@@TraceB is the purifier also Dyson? Can you post a link? Thanks!
I really enjoy your videos! What is that beautiful plant to your left? Is it real? I've never seen one before. I'd love to get one and attempt to keep it alive.
Love that you covered EVERYTHING here. I'm always trying to explain this to family and friends - yes, like a Karen. But this is a great video I'll be sending to EVERYONE!
Dusting behind radiators/heaters is also important
Need to work on this
Thanks for watching!
What should we name our pet dust mite?
Lorenzo the dust mite
Fred
Dolores the dust mite
Bunny 🐰
Hmm. I like Danny
My neighbor smokes and cooks with old grease I’ve bought 2 germ guardians it helps but I need fresh air unfortunately it’s been 23 degrees outside
Is there an efficient and effective way to clean the AC air duct vents/covers inside a house? I change my air filter regularly but I still find the air vent covers in each room to be covered in dust and I hate the thought of breathing all that in. I have both floor and ceilings vents (but mostly floor).
I am saving up for a HEPA air filter system, but is there any cleaning I can do to mitigate in the meantime?
Side note, I bought my house a few months ago and it appears that the previous owners didn’t change the air filter for a few years. So maybe my AC ducts are just really dusty compared to most.
I have two box fans with 20x20x1 inch filters in my room that I change every month or two.
They get nasty! Can't wait to have my own space.
Any tips on cleaning a foam mattress?
Great video, very informative.
I'm curious, how many air purifiers do you have in your house? How many square feet is your home?
Our home is 2800 square feet and we went to Home Depot to purchase a few. The sales associate said we needed 10 for home. Help!?!
An Air Doctor can clean 2500 sq ft in an open plan house. Check into them. Plus there are $300 discount codes available.
@@sharonschech138 Thank you Sharon. Your recommendation is greatly excepted.
I want a Dyson vacuüm cleaner
You need to link the vacuum and humidifier you use!
Do you have any opinions as it relates to duct cleaning? Have been considering (have multiple pets) but not sure if it is worthwhile.
I saw a piece the other day that recommends a duct cleaning every 3 - 5 yrs. I've lived in a duplex over 10 yrs. Just changing the filters is a pain, since it's on the opposite side from the entrance of the crawl space. We're lucky if the filters get changed every 6 - 12 months.
Good one. On the window the little dots of insect shit ;), they are interesting, too haha
I love your videos and will take recommendations asap. Nonetheless,This is real tough for us. We currently live next to an apartment building (4units and 4 car parking lot) and opening windows lets in their funk including their trash which is at the property line facing the back yard. On the other side of property an old woman with 5 dogs that rarely leave her home and never get bathed or groomed. This is quite a feat for us to conquer. Might just end up moving. Been here 15 years. Maybe build taller fence using concrete and or stone. Then security would be an issue…🙄
What do you think of plants at home
Quarantine has got me sniffling on dust mites.
Question - I live in a log home and as such, the inside of the home is comprised of mostly wood, specifically, beams, purlins and pillars. In addition, the majority of the walls are pine tongue and groove. Dusting is a challenge in that products such as Swiffer Dusters leave trace fibers when they catch on rough sections of the wood. I have switched to primarily dusting with microfiber cloths, however at times I find that even the cloths leave fibers. Any suggestions for a better solution? Thanks!
I saw something on Life Below Zero with a Alaskan Native using something for the woods on the outside for antibacterial purposes. It's been so long but maybe that can be somewhere to start..
I vacuumed my mud room today, if i sent it to a lab and got a report I would have a whole set of encyclopedias. It was seriously gross.
Do window screens limit ventilation? It is to keep bugs out, but I worry it traps dust in.
Screens should allow plenty of airflow. Dust may travel outside if the particles are small enough. Particles from outside, like pollen, can also come inside.
I think I need a dehumidifier... But I dont know the brand that I can trust.. can you recommend? Thanks! 🙂😄
LG at Home Depot.
You need to get the filterqueen defender it’s an air purifier. You won’t believe what it collects and it’s HEPA grade so it won’t shoot the air back out dirty
Just when I taught that there is not single small thing in the home that Melissa did not show how to clean... There is she surprising me with how to clean the air...
I live near a busy road in the city. Any tips? Thank you
Small carpets near the front door to take shoes off right away and not track in dirt.
This was very informative but I got bummed out when you didn't share a discount link so people can get this awesome beast of a purifier as well 🤧🤧🤧
I don't believe Dyson ever offers discount codes. And she says do your research and get the one that suits you. I have a Winex air purifier and it works great.
Multiple people commented that the Dyson air purifier is one of the worst rated purifiers.
Okaay, I did not know there was this much info on dst. I don't have great eyesight; so I don't see all the dusts in my small home. I'm a guy trying to cultivate a cleaning routine for my small 900 sq. ft home and I'm the only occupant; no pet. What do you know about the FlyLady system? I'm also reading your book or I should say listeing to the audiobook. My home is okay; I'd just want to do a better job of keeping it clean hence my interest in your channl. Love to get some insights.
I am allergic to dust mites. Ugh!
The dust mites name is Harry.
Can you make a COVID 19 quarantine clean 🧼 like if someone gets sick how to clean up after??? Please thank you!
Dustin the dustmite?
I loved all this information but I couldn’t stop wondering what kind of plant is that?! It’s so cool!!!
And Indoor plants are often said to remove airborne gasses/chemicals, but they themselves contribute to mould levels.
Holy, dust!!! 😳
I guess it’s a good thing I have a Kirby!
I am very allergic to dust, and would love to know how to keep it under control. Ewe, dustmite feces!
What about plants filters your air in the house?
They help a small amount. They aren't going to remove particles in the air and other pollutants.
1 question. Who makes a wet bed and why is it wet?
I think she's talking about the sweat/ body heat we naturally produce. It wouldn't be wet in a way that you see or feel but moisture would still be there from our body heat.
@@m.e.gorospe519 Thats great to know! I hadn't thought about that! Thanks! =)
When will Dyson make a container that holds dust instead of adding filter after filter that doesn't work
I'VE BEEN HAVING AWFUL ALLERGIC REACTIONS. NOW I KNOW WHY!
Me too, and then I got an air purifier for my bedroom. It's not a Dyson but it's a Honeywell, which got excellent reviews on Amazon (I'm not affiliated with Honeywell or Amazon - addicted to Amazon but not affiliated). I'd say within two weeks or less my allergies have cleared up and I can breath and I'm not keeping myself up half the night by coughing. Remember, air purifiers go by square footage of whatever room you're going to use it in.
CBC marketplace did a study and found Dyson was one of the worst air purifiers on the market. I was really surprised! You should check it out.
Have a Snowshoe Siamese. The last time I tried to brush him, he tore my arms to ribbons. I even tried to prepare by wearing leather gloves and long sleeves.
Maybe you haven't been brushing your cat at least once a day since it was a kitten. Plus, talk to your cat about what you're doing. Animals, on some level, understand more than you think.
Did you try giving him treats before and during brushing?
How does the cat react to catnip? My cat gets a little excited, rolls around and then acts like she is high and all mellow. Maybe you can try giving the kitty catnip or something else before brushing them to calm them.
Can you please do a video on cleaning for Pets. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats...
Ripples ( dust mite)
I promise I will clean my space tomorrow

Of course the name should be Dusty the dustmite😂🤣🤣🤣
Oh gaaawwd I don't EVEN want to know what my in door air quality is. I mean, like I've been cooked up in this place for over a year. I DO live by myself and I DO NOT have any pets so maybe it's not that bad. (?)...... I still don't wanna know...
Ionizing air purifiers, because of their electric charge, do create ozone. Consumer Reports has warned that they may give off potentially harmful ozone levels.
