I wasn't expecting you to start until after New Year. Thanks for an unexpected Christmas present! I realize you've finished recording all of our course videos. I hope you're covering what heat setting to use on the outer cloth and the inner layers, and when a pressing cloth is or is not required. The heat setting and press cloth and for how long you press down must depend on the type of fabric being used.
Pleasure is all mine. It will be covered.🙏🏼😄 Pressing cloth is mainly used on the right side of the fabric. Heat settings vary per iron. This you will have to experiment with. “Linen” settings on domestic irons tend to burn wool. Be careful with that. Reza.
I often use tracing paper to trace patterns, then drape the trace onto a mannequin, and modify the style lines and seams with Sharpie pens or a 0.9 mm pencil. The paper substitutes for muslin, can't stretch, and is cheaper. Scotch tape comes in handy to hold seams, darts, and pleats together.

Is it best for the board to be 30 wide to take folded fabric? This wood is 29 inch wide and I’m toying with adding a strip of wood to make it wider.
Hello! You're welcome! You don't need a wider cloth to fold over all the 4 edges of your board. It's optional. It does make your board look neater. As long as you fold the side and front edges of you're board, you can leave the edge facing away from you without cloth. It can be covered by your first felt layer which is usually available in wider widths. Reza
This is great! And it sounds like the board is by far the most expensive item on the 'to get list'. Any chance you have a great, innovative option for that as well? ^^. Could we get away with using pine? What's the smallest board size we can feasibly still work on? I don't have much room, so I'm thinking of a removable top for another bench in my workshop. Edit: Other than the door option, of course. I'm not all that enthused about that. Feels a bit *too* cheap :P. I'm thinking of something in the middle.

I do draft my patterns on the same table. It depends on how soft the felt underneath your cloth is, the thickness of your paper and how hard you press. I rarely poke the paper. Reza

How heavy should the dry iron be? I have the option of either a 2kg or 6kg one but not sure which to get
I would recommend 6kg if you are considering working with heavy materials. For anything light, 2kg is sufficient.
