Toyota is recalling 75,316 Tacoma crew cab pickup trucks from the 2022 and 2023 model years due to concerns that upper child-seat anchors were not properly welded.
This anchor is used for installing child car seats in the second row with a top tether, which is meant to keep the seat from moving forward in a collision. Trucks with an improper weld for this anchor don’t conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 225 and have an increased risk of injury. Toyota estimates that about 5 percent of the Tacomas built from Oct. 21, 2021, through May 28, 2022, have one or more insufficient spot welds.
Toyota is developing a fix for this flaw and will notify owners when one is available. Notification about this problem is expected to be mailed to owners in mid-September.
There are 130 trucks involved still in dealer inventory. They will not be available for sale until the recall work is completed. The Details
Vehicles recalled: 2022-2023 Toyota Tacoma “Double Cab” trucks built from Oct. 21, 2021, through May 28, 2022.
The problem: The upper child-seat anchors in some 2022-2023 Toyota Tacomas may not have been welded sufficiently and may not meet minimum strength requirements. An insufficient weld may allow the child seat to move forward during a sudden stop or crash, increasing the risk of injury.
The fix: The remedy is still being developed. Once one is found, Toyota will notify owners about bringing their trucks to a local dealership for a repair at no cost.

NHTSA campaign number: 22V520000. Toyota’s number for this recall is 22TB09/ 22TA09.

I agree. I feel Toyota is one of the best in the business for taking care of their customers long term and issuing recalls proactively.

Heads up, They just do visual weld inspection. I had my guy TIG welded mine. Since I don't want the shop to do MIG weld on mine.
Thanks for the info! I’m still going to have the dealer inspect it and if it needs to be fixed have them do it to document the process for this channel. I’ll keep you guys in the loop.
I wouldn't want anyone welding in my vehicle they probably burn a hole in the seat or in the door panel
Just bought a 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport (arrives in a couple of weeks). Wife and I are in our 60’s so no young children or grandchildren so not an issue for us but still an unfortunate issue for others.
Congrats on the purchase. You won’t be disappointed. Yeah not a major recall unless your directly affected. But kudos to Toyota for addressing something that could be easily swept under the rug.
I’m a single guy at 41 I’ve had no need for a child seat ever and at this point it’s unlikely I ever will. Not an issue for me either since those child seat anchors are more useful for holding a toolbox to the bulkhead

What! Toyota always have up to date recalls. Some other manufacturers don’t do recalls
Of all the cars I’ve owned, Toyota seems to be the most proactive with Recalls which is what you want.
You pulled on it by hand to determine it feels good? LoL! 10 people couldn’t pool them out! It’s welded!!! Of course it’ll feel strong by hand!!! Recall is dealing with extreme tension in case of accident with powerful forces involved… It’s like taking a bucket of water out of the ocean to try to lower its levels around the world.
Lol. Yeah visually in hindsight it looked dumb. Sometimes can’t help myself, got to test it out or kick it with the ole Fonz move. I know it’s welded and crash forces are magnitudes greater. If some one did the bucket brigade at the start of high tide and low tide came in, they may think they are winning…. Lol.

I'm glad that Toyota has honor and takes pride in what they build. I'd rather know that they made a mistake than try to cover it up.
Yeah I think there the best in the business for standing by their products and fixing it.
The child must weigh at least a ton to break it off in a collision.

I own a 2022 TRD Sport….This recall can pass. No kids or car seats…..no welding !
There was a recall on the top rear brake light on the Toyota Tacoma. I took mines in and found out it was leaking probably from day one when we bought the vehicle brand new, and it caused so much mold and rust damage now Toyota has my vehicle for five months almost half of a year and they cannot finish repairing it. And then they’re acting like there’s nothing they can do about it
Wow that’s some B.S. what could they be taking so long to do? Waiting on interior parts? Repairing the rust by grinding/primer/paint? Usually they are great with their customers.
They tried cleaning and treating the mold but that didn’t work so yes they are in the process of installing new interior

I’m not sure tbh. My specific recall notice was only showing a diagram of a double cab.

I don’t think it will. Toyota stated only double cab models. But if your ever curious if there is any recalls, you can enter your vin number to check for recalls on nhtsa.gov website. For U.S. cars at least. Not sure about other countries.

My kids are about to out grow the child seats.
I was driving the other day and the dash yelled at me to stop when nothing or nobody was in front of me. I was like faaaak I should of gotten something older.
Lol. Well the Tacoma is about as old school as it goes nowadays for a new vehicle. I was going to wait for the new generation coming out soon but said I probably should buy now. The new Tundra is a little scary with all the alarms, nannies, and stuff.

@@automatereviews Old School = Simple = Reliable = Lower Cost To Own. I specifically picked my 2021 Tacoma because I was tired of new tech failing too many times. New tech is great, until it's not . Manufactures seem to be ok nowadays with letting the owners QA their vehicles, especially in the first 2yrs of a new design.

Yeah it’s definitely an inconvenience that you shouldn’t have to deal with. I’m sure getting a loaner would be dealer specific. I would double check ahead of time.

Mexican junk I owned a 22-year-old Toyota 4Runner built in Japan never had 1 oz of trouble with it soon as they build stuff over in Mexico it all goes to hell in a hand basket
Mine is made in Mexico & it's at the new plant not the Baja California plant... It's made in guanaguato Mexico... I've looked over this truck on all the panels fit and finish and I was pissed at first cuz I wanted one made in Texas but after looking it over I'm pleasantly surprised with quality. A child safety hook latch if that's the only thing wrong I'm okay with that
@@honda116969 yup. Off all things that could go wrong, this is not bad. So far no issues with my Tacoma after 8 months and don’t expect there to be any.
I had 5 recalls on my 2017 Tacoma TRD 4x2 off-road, & I will not let the dealer touch my vehicle less I visually see something is wrong with what they claim is wrong on the recall, too much can happen go wrong when your vehicle is at a dealership I have had my bad experiences with them on issues so if nothing is wrong why in the world would you let a dealership touch your vehicle?..
Sucks you have had such bad experiences with the dealer with recalls. I fortunately can’t say the same. Recall related items I’ll let the dealer handle as it’s a liability issue you can pin on them. As far as regular repairs I’ll generally stay clear off the stealership with their high markups. How’s your Tacoma holding up otherwise?

Makes me wonder how this particular recall would happen? Usually welds on a car are robotic. Not sure what would change on this. Maybe a worker shortage of welder robots too…
Recalls occur fairly often on all Toyotas including ones made in Japan. It's a good thing, it means they are correcting it and improving things going forward.
I agree. I feel Toyota is one of the best in the business in being proactive in issuing recalls to correct the issue and prevent it from occurring again moving forward.
I’d imagine the Japanese said the same thing when production went to the US. And and they were right

I just bought a 23 trd. I'm more concerned about the transmission. It changes gears too quick. No power. Have to floor it to get it to go. Go's from 1st to 5th before you get to 30mph.
Congrats on the 23. The transmission is the weak point from a driving dynamic standpoint. The transmission learns your driving habits so it will get a little better but still not where it should be. Driving it with “ect pwr” mode engaged helps the driving dynamic. I live in somewhat flat land and do little highway. If I had to do mountains and or highway driving a lot this wouldn’t be a pleasant truck to drive with the amount of hunting the transmission does.
Ect power will be your friend
