    You could also look at the device you want to connect to your power source, and see what the Wattage use is. If you don't have a wattage, take the Voltage multiply it by the Amperage needed, this will give you the wattage. If at max it is going to draw over 400 watts, then this circuit will not be good enough for it. Keep it Simple, do the math before you use it.

    Perfect for electric tooth brush in an emergency. More of a sales pitch. A 3000 watt inverter would be more like it but would require a very large alternator and or battery set. Humvees have been using them for a while so it is possible.

    Volts ÷ Watts = Amps
    120v ÷ 400w (This is the wattage the Tacoma gives you) = 3.3 amps.
    So not many things runs on that plug. My Bostich pancake compressor cannot run on that outlet. Because of that, I bring my power generator when I need power. At 400 watts / 3.3 amps max, this is not designed for power tools. Not even a coffee maker can run there.

    Anything over 2100 watts is pushing your luck with the onboard power outlets. There a number of 2k watt inverter generators that can be bought for a few hundred dollars. Wen, Generac, Honda, Champion all make decent models and the inverter generators are pretty quiet.

  • @johnburla
    @johnburla Před rokem +4

    I'm not trying to be a jerk, but 400
    watts converts to approximately
    3.3 amps. So ipso facto; just look at the amperage that your device requires first before plugging it in.
    The average hair dryer pulls close to 15 amps. I wouldn't risk my Tacoma outlet on anything that utilizes heating coils or plates.
    In short, the AC truck bed outlet is quite practical if you use common sense.

      Unfortunately newer vehicles are just loaded with stuff to break and jack the price. The Tacoma is probably one of the more basic trucks you can buy today. I’m sure the upcoming Tacoma will continue this automotive trend.

      A lot of questions. Lol. Here we go.
      1. Exhaust smell is ok but I prefer old school big block V8 with tons of gas unburned. Tacoma kind of reminds me of a food truck with a gas generator running. Get a nice burger while smelling exhaust fumes.
      2. My lungs are doing great! As far as I know. I work in the power trade so I’m sure I’ll get mesothelioma.
      3. If my lungs stay good, nice!
      4. That’s a great idea for the fan as it’s useless for other applications. Or set a fan up in my tent connected to the truck while it runs all night. Lol.
      5. 🤪

    • @automatereviews
      @automatereviews  Před rokem +1

      I somewhat agree. I wouldn’t say it was the worst I’ve driven. But if your use to low end torque I can see the dislike. The 3.5 in the current gen kind of reminds me of a Honda 4cyl engine with nothing down low, needing higher revs for power. I’m sure this change this generation was for emissions requirements. And the next gen going 4cyl turbo. Definitely not liking the future auto landscape.

    do you have to turn on the car engine to able to use the power outlet ? or can you turn it off but still able to use it ? what is the correct way ? if you turn on the car the it take too much gas for using it .

    • @automatereviews
      @automatereviews  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Essentially yes the engine needs to be on to use the outlet. It can be turned on if the ignition switch is in the on position without the engine running but you will drain your battery. If you are in Park or Neutral, you get the full 400w in the outlet. In drive it’s down to 100 w.

      @@kevinle5962 no problem. Good luck. It is limited. The new hybrid Tacoma will have a 2400w inverter which is more useful. You’re better off buying a battery bank for camping big enough for your needs. And use that outlet to charge your bank when you’re driving around.
