    We arranged the piece. My family sang it.
    Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you!
    Lyrics:
    "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way""
    Where there's a whip, there's a way.
    Where there's a whip, there's a way.
    Where there's a whip...[continues in second voice]
    We don't wanna go to war today
    But the Lord of the Lash says: "nay, nay, nay!"
    We're gonna march all day, all day, all day!
    Where there's a whip there's a way!
    Where there's a whip, there's a way!
    Where there's a whip, there's a way!
    Where there's a whip, there's a way!
    Left, right, left, right, left
    Where there's a whip, there's a way!
    Left, right
    The crack on the back says we're gonna fight
    We're gonna march all day and night and more
    For we are the slaves of the Dark Lord's war.
    Left, right, left, right, left, right
    Where there's a whip, there's a way!
    Where there's a whip, there's a way.
    Where there's a whip...
    We don't wanna go to war today!
    But the Lord of the Lash says: "nay, nay, nay!"
    We're gonna march all day, all day, all day!
    Where there's a whip there's a way!
    Left, right, left right!

    I know people treat this song as a joke and it's become a meme, but I actually genuinely like it. I think it fits, it gets across what is often forgotten in these adaptations - that the Orcs are ruled by force and fear. And this rendition, even if an April Fools joke, actually gets it even better, because it's less upbeat than in the film and more like marching song. Love it.

    Frodo certainly had some sympathy for them. Remember his vision as he dreamed in this movie, a quiet world where even the orcs are happy and at peace. Compare that to Sam's vision under the ring, where he's forcibly changing the orcs into animals.

      Not recorded, but I managed to get my USAF training flight to sing it without our TI knowing in advance. We got KP duty for a week for it. Worth it. Afterward however, in those weird ways TIs do things, he'd call out every so often with the sound of a whiplash and off we'd go again.

    I suppose this is keeping with Tolkiens lore. Because singing is incredibly important to middle earth because it was created by singing. But you'd think the orcs would be a bit more... crass, and / or blood thirsty. Like, I don't imagine the line "we don't wanna go to war today." To cross the mind of an Orc

  • @GCJACK83
    @GCJACK83 Před 5 měsíci +4

    "What have we here? Two deserters?! Up wit' ya! Git in line!" That said, the Jackson film, despite being an overall great movie, I despise because it cuts out the part where Frodo and Sam have to disguise themselves as orcs to get to Orodruin. The being caught napping part also happened in the book, and since both the goblins and orcs were whipped to drive them into battle, this song is strangely fitting. Also in the book, when Frodo and Sam were caught in disguise by the orcs, they actually passed a close enough inspection where the orcs gave them food and alcohol.

    • @atf5813
      @atf5813 Před 2 měsíci

      Technically, they do get picked up by a troop of orcs in the Jackson films but I’m pretty sure it’s only in the Extended cut. I’ll link a video to the inspection scene, it’s not entirely accurate to the book but I think it gets the point across.

    The Hobbit and The Return of the King from Rankin-Bass are filled with such nostalgia for me. The Hobbit cartoon is arguably better than the latest trilogy. This was their chance to make the Hobbit a musical and people would still go see it. Instead they had to inject a bunch of nonsense and poor CGI into it. People forget the Hobbit *IS* a children's book. It was written during a time when people still had to make their own entertainment. I'm technically a Millennial but I grew up watching 70's and 80's shows on tape. I remember my Dad would sit by the VCR and pause the recording during commercials to minimize waste. I remember watching the Hobbit and Return of the King, then being so disappointed when I found out that Rankin-Bass never did The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.
