@Ariadne Chaidez yes, but if you did more research you would notice that cage they got is fine, only the roof has that and many budgies seem to enjoy climbing it. They have other birds so they have to quarantine pillow, since he is from a pet store. they have a flock cage later, and for taming those cages are fine.

You guys have more common sense than my mum who:
-thinks vets are unnecessary
-thinks a big cage is unnecessary
-thinks plastic perches are fine
-thinks the birds don't need toys
-thinks foot tags are to stop birds from flying away
Aight time for an update:
-we replaced plastic perches with natural wooden ones (we got them from a tree that we chopped down)
-we bought toys for them
-we're saving up for a bigger cage (I talked to my mum about the cage issue and she said to save up)
-i keep asking for my mum to find a vet but she keeps forgetting :/

Same. But my parakeets past away years ago. Didn't want to deal with family stupidity so no more pets in the house.
So your little bird is actually a boy. He is still very young, so his cere, the nose area above his beak is a pink, but will turn blue with time. On the first day, you should have just let him stay in his cage. (Maybe the first week even.) Maybe consider doing a bit more research, and also getting him a friend, so you can ensure he lives a happy life! I’m very glad you’re teaching your son how to respect Pillow, like when pillow flew out of the box and onto the ground, and when your son tried to grab him, you showed him how Pillow was breathing fast. Not trying to be disrespectful or anything, just trying to give advice 😀

spuddy nutter um...actually that is an extremely young budgie and with extremely young budgies you cant tell the gender until their Ceres are fully developed because my girl budgie had a blue cere then it developed to be pink. so please research before you comment like a smart Alec 😕
Please watch bird tricks video on youtube about getting a new parrot home. It absolutely should NOT be in a cage for a week after coming home! Not even for a few hours. Please watch that video, and their other videos, these guys have been training parrots half their lifes.

This made me smile! It’s nice to see people who actually care for the well-being of the bird as well as the kid. The cage could be slightly bigger but if he is out all the time it’s great! So many people just throw a bird in tiny cages with no toys and only dowel perches. You guys did this whole thing right😁 I do advise you to get a couple more perches though. If you could, please get him a friend and a bigger cage. I work at a rescue and always want to help people!

@@yesyes1299 Make sure they out of cage everyday for physical exercise & good quality seed mix & veggies fruits chops everyday. Lastly they required 11-12 hours of good night sleep. Happy bird keeping ☺

I don’t want to be rude in any way I have 4 birds 3 parakeets and one cockatiel I recommend to get a way bigger cage and Mr pillow was very stressed when he was out on the floor they like to be up higher I’m just giving you a recommendation

As a bird owner myself I know that it’s extremely hard to form a bond with your bird overnight, the fact that Pillow was from a Pet store and he let you hold him is amazing

I got a budgie from a pet store like 5ish months ago and he is still not really hand tamed, still working on it 😕 but I just got one like a week ago (he is a baby though so that helps) but he will sit on my hand and shoulder and head and everything. Sooo yeah birds are funny like that 😂

If you first get the budgie and he lets you on your hand he wont be scared tho he doesnt trust you at ALL it just thinks your an animal passing through but if it sees your near it for a longer period of time it will realize your not passing through

That is the most tame budgie I’ve ever seen from a PETSMART on the first day, you guys were so lucky!! My birds are still scared of me after a month

It takes time. I have had my two budgies for over a month and they are just getting used to me. And it could take longer. Just be patient. Go by their cage every day. Try introducing Miller to them. Reach in their cage to one side so they don’t feel like you are corralling them. If they don’t move get closer. But I have trained my birds successfully with millet. I guess this was just about millet. USE MILLET!

Your kid is so sweet and patient with the bird omg! When he was like “let’s wait for pillow to feel better and then he can come to the cage” it was so cute!! Also I can’t believe your bird was asleep and that comfy on the first day! Usually they don’t sleep well the first few days. Also good job doing the research about the arthritis

That's amazing! I know I am commenting this after awhile, but just a heads up, the reason pillow was sitting on your hands was because it looked like he was in shock! Birds can go into this state if they feel stressed/anxious/scared/nervous. Make sure you take good care of him though! He is in a good home! 💗💗

When i got my budgie as a early birthday gift we had to go to someone who breeds budgies we got all the information we needed and all the stuff we needed dor the same breeder because in the netherlands we don't have petco's or other pet stores where they sell bords... And let me tell you my budgie called buddy is starting to talk and im so proud of buddy. Nice video i think the budgie will have a really good life with you and youre son 😇🦜

Dang this is the most well behaved bird I’ve seen coming into a completely new environment and home yall got a keeper 😂 and the bird was to gentle to and the boy as well
I recommend not just giving him seeds, but giving him sometimes new fruits and veggies so that the bird is happy and healthy.
I’m glad that you taught your child manners.There was once a family filming the time they were getting a puppy and the child picked up the pup(not being gently)and the staff at the adoption center even had to tell them to stop

Give him a variety of chop which is a mixture of veggies and fruits in addition to his dry foods. You can put a broccoli Florentino the bars so Pillow can dibble on it also you can clip a couple fresh spinach leaves.
hi i love ur vids i would recomend a larger cage and use the seeds for treats and feed it instead of seeds bird chop and remove the long perch at the bottom and use a java wood perch.
I got my first budgies when I was 12, I’m now 28 and they’ve been with me thru everything!!!! Best luck with pillow!!

.Funny story, my daughters first bird almost didn’t last the night. I went to check on bird and found it missing, I found it in her pillow case “to protect him”. I became the full guardian. Lol Birdie never left my side. Best bird I ever loved. 💕❤️❤️❤️😊
dmsbakerds - Oh my gosh, that's hysterical! 😂😂😂 Kids always have the best intentions even if their methods aren't great. Brendan likes to collect spiders in jars, but I have to keep reminding him that they need to be free to make webs and catch bugs. By the way do not just feed her seed I learned that the hard way with my last budgies give her a variety of fruits and veggies Oh and very fast learner for a parakeet by the way I mean my parakeet that was last from Petsmart I have like three now but my last one that I had was the quickest learner but really from Petsmart or pet whatever that’s a quick learner

It's so good to see so much research go into getting your new friend. You both knew about how to take care of their feet, paid attention to his breathing to recognize that he was scared, and were patient enough to give the little one his space to get acclimated to his new home. I love seeing people ADOPT birds, not BUY them. My wife and I have a half year old Pied Cockatiel (Alex) that we adopted a couple months ago. It took about 3 weeks before he stopped hissing at us when we changed his food, water, and poop tray, but we kept the door to his cage open during the day, and one day he just came out on his own.. and now he says "Peek a boo" when we come home, and showers with us, lol. It's such a rewarding feeling and I have no doubt that Pillow is still having a blast with his new Mommy, Daddy, and big Brother in 2022.

that is so precious...... when I was still living in Victoria British Columbia like 25 plus years ago I heard something like a bird song and baby crying . in the same call .... I looked up and saw a Cocketiel in the tree I put my hand up to her and she flew down and landed on my hand then hopped on to my head I slowly walked into the house and that is how I rescued our Angel we named her we had her for about 15 years .. it was glorious not sure how long she was living in the wild but I sure am glad we got her as it turned out we had an old budgie cage but upgraded pretty quickly . this is going to be a key stage in Brendan development into the young man he will eventually become empathy and being kind to another soul ... Its going to be awesome ...loved your vlog see you next time

I gotta say, that's an amazingly tame baby Budgie for being from Petco or PetSmart...looks to me like you did very well in your choice buddy, congrats on Pillow! My very first pet was a baby Budgie that my mom bred and hand-raised and I got when I was 6 years old, and I ended-up becoming a life-long parrot breeder and owner...Spend a lot of time with him every single day buddy, and he'll be your best friend...My first Budgie lived to be 18 years old! He went away to college with me!

Other kids would be impatient and squeeze a new bird. However, your kid is amazing with birds!!! Keep up the patience, and you’ll get a good companion.
I would recommend to buy some more shedeble toys because it's a natural instinct for parrots to shed things apart

@@carolverda6826 Actually, Pillow is a boy. Since Pillow is very young (you can tell by the "barrings" on its head), it's cere is pink. Young males have pinker ceres than young females whose ceres are whiter.

Your bird is adorable. I love budgies. Please consult an avian vet on diet.. He should also have a variety of perches and toys including ladder and foot toys and swing. Cover at night and make sure there is no draft on him When out supervise him to make sure he does not get into things that could hurt him.. Make sure he does not get out the door or widow. There should be screens on windows.

Kevin and Krista Extras btw. I noticed you guys only have seeds, parakeets need pellets too. ZuPreem is a good brand to use along with Harrison’s high potency ultra fine for parakeets. Highly recommend you get that aa food so your parakeet can live longer : P

Pillow is pretty cute as well, and I am pretty sure that he was totally stoked when he realized that he is a new member of a sweet family. a lot of the comments say pillow is a girl but actually he is a boy. his cere(the top of his beak) is pink which means he is a baby boy. when the cere is white with a little bit of blue its a baby girl. as he starts growing his cere will slowly start turning blue.with a girl it will start turning brown. i have a picture of my budgies when they were babies and from now, so i am 100% sure pillow is a boy. have fun with your new baby

Cute Video...I just did the same thing today with Petco!! My 4th Budgie in all my years alive. They all lived close to 10 years each!
ok if you want to read this comment please be ready for some constructive criticism. please do not take this as a joke or to be mean or brag. that cage is not sutible for any bird. i do like how he widdled down the dowel perch so pillow does not get bumblefoot ot arthuridus. but there are many flaws, first there are not enough toys, there should be at least one toy on each perch and two toys on the roof. i recommend a flight cage for parakeets and the bigger the better. also minor complaints but the water should be in a dish and there should be at least three dishes in your parakeets cage. one for food, water, and veggies. also the dishes should be in stainless steal so that it is less likely to build up viruses and bacteria. also to get the bird to stay healthy and prevent fatty liver disease you should only use the spray millet for training and he should have a bigger cage (like i said flight cage) to prevent any diseases. i have just seen so many birds in small cages with improper care and no bird should have to go through that. for anymore advice on birds visit the youtube channels, live laugh birds, and alen axp. your bird is absolutely adorable!! i have a parakeet and a cockatiel

I would definitely think about getting a second parakeet!! they are very loving birds that love having companions! they like buddy budgie friends! just saying.. not trying to be rude... and you might want to consider getting a bigger cage.. that budgie would probably like room to fly around in its cage... another thing... if your bird is not already warmed up to you.. don’t chase Pillow around... try and just grab him if you’re trying to get him out, chasing him around just really scared them more

chez ball My parakeet is alone and we have her nearly 9 years! She sings everyday and is let out to play with my dogs! No need for a second bird if you socialise well with the one you have! 😆

WOW you guys are lucky to get such a tame parakeet without it being hand-raised and in a pet store environment. My 2 are extremely scared (one a bit more so than the other) of me and everyone that attempts to touch them (they don't bite, they just run). They're going to a budgie sanctuary this Monday so i hope they have a less stressful and more free/wild life there instead of cooped up in a cage (with many attempts to let them out to run/fly around the room, they just wanted to sit in the corner of their cage even if I left) being scared
