Hey it is a good time since Pillow is young to teach her how to talk. My niece had a parakeet that spoke a few sentences.
winane yeah, I heard they could do that! We say Pillow's name a lot around him, so maybe he can figure that out at least. :)
Kevin and Krista Extras yeah, my bird says Rayne Bird, Pizza Pizza Pizza, give me a kiss, I love you, get that bell, Hi stewie, and hi river. The best way to teach them is in a high pitched voice. Also try and teach them when they are playing or chirping because they will listen. Sometimes they just tune you out, parakeets are little brats.

honestly you guys are soo lucky you got him to go to your finger the first day it took me over 2 week to make my cocktail bird eat from my hand
Strizk - yeah, we were lucky. Pillow is really laid back. 😊
You can get your cockatiel to get to eat from your hand by using two fingers, make it like a bird beak, then pretend to make your finger eat, or just kind of play with the food that’s what I did for my cockatiel to get it to eat from my hand on the first day.

Budgies shouldn't have oranges cause it is citrus. Birds cannot have citrus, it is like acid to them
Actually oranges are among the safe fruits for budgies to eat
there one of the best fruits for them
Citrus has alkaline properties and not acidic.

So weird that Americans call it a Parakeet. In Australia they're known as Budgies or Budgerigars which are a native Australian bird species. In the bush you will see them fly around in large flocks
When I was growing up in America...they were called budgies or parakeets. Some places still call them budgies.
Brown Monkey yeah it's weird - I had no idea they were called Budgies until I was older. My friend had one and had a book about caring for it, and that was the first time I saw the word. We thought "budgie" sounded so funny! :)
Yeah when I tried to convince my parents to get a budgie they asked me what a budgie is and why I don’t want a parakeet and I told them a budgie is a parakeet and they said OHHHHHH ok
Brown Monkey and "parakeet" is kind of incorrect because there's different types of parakeets that are technically parakeets like Alexandrine parakeet which can also be called a parrot or a mustache parakeet.. that's why i call them budgies
We call the budgies too just some people call them parakeets too

i have 4 budgies they are the best great companions bubbles,buttercup where the first ones and yes i am guilty for impulse buying but i got everything they needed kiwi and angel are my second pair my grandma bought them but gave them to me because she couldnt take care of them, they were kinda stressed but i got them better so now they are living life to the fullest

You can also leave the cage open. So he can return to his cage if he wants to :) he's such a beautiful budgie!
Cassidy Eekman - we actually do leave the cage open most of the time (as long as we're home and awake.) He loves wandering around, and then going back in to eat! 😊
I’m getting a cockatiel when school starts back up so I have to watch bird videos to stop myself from growing impatient over the fact that I don’t have the bird yet.. I’m weird...

If you want pillow to eat fruits get a tiny piece of any fruit and take very tiny bites of the fruit and act like you enjoy it. Pillow will mimick you and taste the fruit and he will fall in love with it. It worked for me.

I understand Brandon is young but he should a little more gentle. Not trying to be mean or anything. Try not to force anything especially with stepping up. “Step up” is a question not a command, so don’t press against his chest and just offer the finger and see if he will be willing to step up. When pillow is relaxed stand him on a flat surface and if his feet don’t stay flat and his nails are pressed against the surface than his nails need clipping (make sure he is relaxed on the surface or he could clench his feet and make it look like they need clipping)

My budgie climbs up my ponytail onto my hair/head. He is already very friendly... We got him couple weeks ago with his friend Lemon (his name is Charlie), Lemon is not as friendly tho she also climbs up my ponytail onto my head.

Hi Kevin & Krista, I noticed from your bird cage that you have a wooden perch at the highest level. I assume that's where Pillow sleeps. I would recommend you to buy a bendable perch eg: i.ebayimg.com/images/g/2oUAAMXQb2JSHiCK/s-l300.jpg. Why these type? Because they're softer and it won't hurt the bird at night when it sleeps. I know in nature, they don't have the luxury of a soft branch. Also put the perch at the highest point. Birds always prefer this to prevent predators. Just make sure you don't put too high which forces the bird to crouch. Leave some head space. Also you can bend the perch so that Pillow can climb down easily toward the food dish. The cage isn't very big and so flying isn't that easy for Pillow. Do a search on amazon for bendable perch. Also be careful about rope ladders. Make sure the space between the ladders aren't too small which can get your bird's head stuck and die.
Remove the seeds. No apple seeds. Poisonous to birds. Maybe try not to give birds acidic food like oranges. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, banana, melons, cantaloupe . Some trainers say don't give birds too many fruits either because it has Fructose (the sweetest type of sugar).
Please be careful about Halloween Spider web stuff. If your bird swallows it, it will get stuck in the crop and prevents food from being digested and then the bird can die. Same thing with those cute triangular hoody house for birds. If the bird bites the outer soft cover, inside might be cotton and if it eats the cotton, it's a disaster for birds.
MtT _ - Thank you! We actually put up that Halloween spider webbing every year, so we'll have to be extra careful. Fortunately we don't put it where Pillow usually goes.
You're very welcome. Glad to help you/give you advice. Birds are like little children. Sometimes people just think of them as pets, but I always ask myself/people, would you do that in front of your kid? Boo, the budgie, had 2 broken legs because the owner didn't put curtains/venetian blinds and so it broke 2 legs after smashing into a window. Never recovered those legs.: czcams.com/video/EZYA3NRCHyQ/video.html. When I watched the video, after it recovered, I noticed that the owner still didn't have a curtain.

My budgie went onto my dads shoulder, (I was quite excited since he hasn’t been tame for long and he’s still quite scared of peoples shoulders) He was eating some millet and my dad took away the millet and he just looked for the millet around my dads shoulder then kissed his cheek 😂😂🥺🥺

Kevin and Krista Extras, the bird is actually probably a she because the ceres *area near nose* is pink, which indicates a female, whereas males have blue ceres. XD Just wanted to let you know ^^
Get you parakeets a toy mirror they like to see themselves
make sure you give your bird some pellet to because a all seed diet is bad for a bird you should check out a you tuber called parrots and me because they have good tips on how to take care of a budgie and how to make them eat pellet and fruit also veggies.

Hey, I noticed that you have been referring to pillow as a boy. I can see that Pillow is a girl. Above Pillow's beak, he has a nose called his cere. Female Ceres are brown or pale colour. Male Ceres are blue.
In another video they said that they alter the colors in their videos, so in that video they didn't change the color of the film and Pillow's cere looked purple. I looked it up and most people say that a purple cere indicates that he's a boy. Although, not all colors in a video can be exact. :)

Cool boy Shahnawer - We just have him out of the cage, and we hand-feed him a lot. We also got lucky with a laid back bird - some may naturally be more skittish. Good luck with yours!
