      Zillow (not because of the website, that’d just be a super cute name for her! Plus it rhymes with pillow!), Daisy, Mrs. Puff, Goldie, Mango, Cheeto (for her orange cheeks), Honey, Zaffa, Zippie, Zazu - sorry for all the ‘z’ names but when I saw here she looked like her name should start with a z! Congratulations! :)

      I think Willow is a good name as it rhymes with Pillow. Also, Willow could be for a male bird or a female bird. If you find out that your cockatiel is a female, you could name her Pearl as it is similar to Brendan's suggestion- Pearltail. (Not that you couldn't name a male bird Pearl- in my opinion Pearl would be more suitable for a female bird.)

      Her/His mutation makes it difficult to know - impossible to tell by looking alone until he/she molts - Male names : Spike, Jaws (lol), Coco, Kitpu (means eagle in mikmaq language - canadian native american tribe language - pronounced "gitbo"), Sunny, Zorro, Squirt, Taz, Chopper,. Sticking with the P's to match pillow are : Pinto, Poncho (i actually think poncho is a great name to match Pillow), Pebbles, Peaches. Female names can be : Bijou, Alsing (means to fly free / glide in mikmaq language - and sounds like "all sing" in english! - I named my female alsing and my channel is mostly about her adventures) , Nutsy (maybe this is gender neutral? not sure lol). Good luck and once again, message me on my channel or privately if you have questions, I have had budgies for 8 years and a tiel now for almost 2 .

    Congratulations. She is beautiful. Pillow will love her. Perched should be lower to the bottom at first to prevent falls that can injure.. She may not be used to other birds yet if she was not raised with siblings naturally. I use paper on bottom of cage and took out grate. Shavings can get swallowed or get moldy. and grate does not allow bird to pick up dropped food. Use an avian vet to recommend best food. Also look up Christine's Chop Shop for suggestions on healthy food.. Many people buy her food and she sends it to you. You can talk to her and she can tell you what to add to the diet you have. Good luck . She is precious. Pearl is beautiful.

    I have worked with cockatiels and many other types of pet birds for over 35 years. My guess is that you have a male. If so he will most likely lose the pearls. The orange cheeks are pretty vibrant too. Females have less intense orange cheek patches. It is sometimes hard to tell with baby tiels until their first molt. Females also have barring on their legs and underside of their tail feathers, males don't. I would also not house them together. Cockatiels and parakeets have different needs and behaviors. They may be fine on a shared playground but territorial issues can arise when it comes to housing. Congratulations on your new family member!

  • @PwingMinecraft
    @PwingMinecraft Před 5 lety +1

    Congrats !!! I am so happy for you guys and your new addition! I know she will be well loved, you guys do your homework too, which is great! Chili peppers actually taste sweet to parrots, they don't taste the hotness like we do ! If she is a girl, she will keep her pearls. If he is a boy, he will lose them, and turn into a normal looking grey cockatiel , unless - he is a pearl pied. Then he will keep a very small amount of pearls on his wings only, and lose all pearls on his back. You will have some idea if she's a girl or a boy by her behaviour by the time she is 6 months old and the first molt begins. Males sometimes start whistling a lot sooner, and you will know you have a male possibly a lot sooner then if she is a female. Males will whistle a lot, show heart wings, bow their heads while singing, and sometimes dance to music / tap dance / drum their cage bars or anything like a woodpecker. Females do not learn to whistle most of the time, they are more quiet and just flock call when your out of sight usually. A female will show hormonal behaviour by sticking her butt in the air and doing fast chirps. A male will masterbate on things. Males can be angry when hormonal, but it goes away after their hormones settle down (Some extreme cases, you have to leave him in the cage for a couple of weeks). Aww, too bad they clipped her =( Clipping young birds is not advised, it takes them a lot longer to learn to fly.(And some never learn sadly) I have my budgies for 8 years now and I have a 1 1/2 year old cockatiel, so if you need any advice just message me :) Young cockatiels are very playful and that's the best time to introduce healthy foods to them ! Your pellets have sugar in them, they are most likely zupreem brand. Natural is better (but dont throw it away, just mix it with some natural pellets if you like!) I feed my birds roudybush pellets, nibbles for my budgies and mini for my cockatiel. Even though the mini is about a cm in size, my tiel loves to chew them all up. Once again, vegetables/sprouts is the healthiest food to feed her , although she needs some pellets and seeds. Sunflower/flaxseed/peanuts/almonds should not be given to cockatiels, they are high in fat. Sunflower can be given 1-2 per day but thats all thats recommended. Cockatielcottage.net has amazing information about cockatiels, and budgies and cockatiels eat the same food !

    • @PwingMinecraft
      @PwingMinecraft Před 5 lety

      Oh you mentioned in the video she is only 6 weeks old? Maybe you were mistaken , and the bird is 7-8 weeks. The breeder does not sound responsible, clipping a young bird too soon, and rehoming her too soon as well. A bird is not fully weened until they are eating on their own for 2 full weeks ! 6 weeks is when they usually start eating on their own ... This bird probably has only been eating on his own for 2-4 days. So I strongly advice you weigh your bird every day and make sure he/she is eating . I've read some horror stories on the bird forums and facebook groups of young birds dying from starvation because new bird owners don't know the dangers of a young bird not fully weaned. A sign of a bird regressed and not eating enough is loss of weight / not eating (fumbling with seeds but not actually able to open them properly), crying for food (screaming all the time or making a low frequency hunger noise), wet poops / diarahaa with no / little fecal matter. If any of these signs happen bring him back to the breeder right away ! Also, I see she is clumsy as most baby tiels are , when it comes to climbing in the cage. You can help her get to her perches by securing the rope perch on the outside from the very bottom to a perch she needs to get to , thats what I did for my tiel when i got her at the age of 8 months. After 2-3 weeks she could climb better :] practice makes perfect !

      @@PwingMinecraft We think she was actually 8 weeks old when we got him/her. And we are taking him/her back to the store tomorrow (by their request - every week for a few weeks) to get weighed to see if she's gaining/losing weight. We did notice that when we are around, he/she will eat normally. But when we leave the room, he/she will not. So we stand and watch him/her eat frequently to make sure he/she's getting enough food. He/she has lots of poops and they do look normal though. Not wet/diarrhea like. And we did put the rope inside his/her cage. We might get another one to help even more. Thanks again for the info. :)

    Putting the budgie at a distance away from the family can and prob will cause behavior issue's! Pillow is use to his routine and not being stuffed away in a bedroom. I have just purchased a new bird and we purchased a stand to hang the cage from online at Walmart and it is worth every penny. It was $23.99 to $25.99. It looks like your new bird is a male from the color!

      Pillow is in a bedroom where Kevin has his desk and does a lot of work, so he's not away from the family completely. It's just temporary (quarantine). We didn't want him to get sick in case the new bird had an illness of some kind. But we are sure to give Pillow a little extra attention while he's not in the family room and will incorporate him back to his normal spot in a couple weeks. Thanks for your concern though. :)

    Noooo😢 I had so much hope that you got a budgie... A cockatiel isn't a real friend for a budgie. They don't speak the same language. They just will be together and that's it. It's like if you put a guinea pig with a rabbit. They are similar but not the same abd they don't understand eachother.

      Leali Lumos lol any birds in flocks with understand and love each other as they make and learn new names for things, but all birds speak the same language originally; body language. Because the new bird is a baby, she/he will develop a language that is the exact same as Pillow’s language. She/he is a baby. Baby birds are extremely impressionable, especially with other birds in their flock.

    Congratulations on your handsome new addition to your flock! 🎉 Beautiful bird indeed 🥰. They are wonderful companions. Note: I recently added a baby hand fed cockatiel to my flock in January. He is very tame and loves to perch on us very much. But be careful until the flight feathers grow in. They can fall (as expected when clipped) and in in a short distance can hurt their underside. I’m dealing with this currently. So I’d sit while the bird is out so that a fall will be short. They are heavier and their tails more rigid than a budgie. Be careful. Great choice. Best of luck with all ❤️🐤🐦

      Btw...I would agree with the previous comments about the vertical bars...sorry...🙏🏻 You can improve the set up with a boing (total MUST), more ladders and climbing items. Also I’d add a rectangular hook platform (@ $8). It really allows them an opportunity to truly rest. My breeder shared this and it’s absolutely true. Enjoy all your new adventures together 😘

    In 7:23 you can actually see markings in the bottom of the tail feathers and those indicate that the cockatiel is a female

    Such a perfect bird! It's so pretty and seems to have a great temperament. I don't have names suggestions, but I would suggest being careful on the types of beddings you try. Most wood shaving beddings have toxic oils to birds or microscopic dust which can be harmful to the respiratory systems of birds and even other small animals. If you do wood cuttings, only dust filtered aspen wood chips, and kiln dried pine are said to be safe. Ceder and normal pine are on the top of the avoid list for oil toxicities. I personally use paper towels in my bird cages, and spot clean by dry scraping at dried poo on toys and perches, and when needed I wash things.
    Anyways, great looking bird, good luck on learning something new every day and having fun too!
