    THE CHANNEL:
    This channel is about Kerbal Space Program and can consist of SSTO building tutorials and rocket building tutorials. Some times the videos contain bad language and adult humor but on a low level. In these videos no planet is safe as we can explore space together by landing on places like Duna and Jool and build large Duna colonies or orbital space stations. Also, Interplanetary SSTO builds seem to be a hot topic in the KSP community so I will be touching on those as well. I also build SSRT space craft. These are fun to build and easy to fly! Warships or space warships are one of my favorite things to make. Stock weapons can be very challenging and so when building them over time , you get to see the evolution of the designs. Same thing with the Warships. They get better and better with each new design.
    Now , I know it's considered cheating but Kraken drives are a fun way to put things like warp drive ( like in Star Trek ) and or hyper drives ( like in Star Wars ) in your Kerbal space program game. These game mechanic loopholes are fun to figure out as you find out how they work and how to incorporate them into your star ship design.
    Everything from Outposts on far away moons and Mining Stations around asteroids and comets, you name it I've ether built it or it's on my to do list! I still haven't really explored things like building SpaceX starship or any of the NASA spacecraft, and I think that's because it been done to many times. Recreations of spacecraft can be found almost everywhere on CZcams now and so making yet another one seem redundant. Only if the spacecraft recreation is of one that I loved as a kid will I even attempt to build it. Like the Apollo Moon Lander, or the whole Apollo rocket! Now that rocket was cool!
    Many people have ask me if I'm ever going to wear my Mandalorian helmet ever again for my videos. And , yes. when the time is right, and I get a new wabcam, I will be dawning the helmet once more!
    Thank you everyone! ... This is the way.

    Long story short: You'll get 100% refund if your ctaft end up DIRECTLY at ANY runway/launchpad.
    If craft missed the launchpad "biome" - you'll have that "return cost" deduction applied.

  • @Nadaefvji
    @Nadaefvji Před 3 měsíci +16

    My dude, it literally tells you the exact percentage returned on the recovery screen, right at the top, every time, wherever you land on the planet, and has so for years. I mean, it’s literally there in your recording, every time.

  • @Andersam
    @Andersam Před 3 měsíci +11

    I love that you tested all these locations. But, just so know the game shows you the percentage if you click on the parts tab of the recovery popup window.
    It always irked me slightly when people taxi back to the SPH because of the slight reduction. (But 100% is realistically too much anyway as you would need to to maintenance on the craft)

    In all the years of ksp no one ( to my limited knowledge) has ever done what you just did. Figures out percentage of return on your recovery
    Awesome

    Hello. With the topic of this video it does make sense you would lose refunds when recovering from a further point away from KSC. It's nice to see some actual accurate easy to read data on this experiment, it was very well done and interesting to know. Landing a shuttle of ssto on a runway makes it extra sweet.
    I created a craft to achieve this in the last 2 days and doing it in stock ksp especially on console is rather hard but achievable. I used the probe core trick for a higher degree for periapsis. I am very pleased as indeed it does make the reentry much more smooth and stress free. I highly enjoyed the flight.
    But yeah thank you once again for wishing me a happy birthday on the 15th. It really made my day, you are a legend VAOS.
    Until we meet again live long and prosper

    i think the system works such that if you're in a "recovery zone"(ie the runways) you'll get 100% back. BUT if you're not it will use the distance to the KSC, which is why being off of runways far away from the KSC loses so much money
    a better system would be that if you're not in a recovery zone it should simply use the distance to the nearest recovery zone

    Yes, I did know about this but I never bothered to test it to see how severe the losses were. I wonder how bad it is if you land on (Bill) Nye (the Science Guy) Island.

    I love these "science experiment" style projects. Reminds me of "the good old days" of KSP, when we had fun! Which required charts and graphs and a protractor.
    About the bell. Sorry bro. I don't click the bell, because "they" told me not to, and I always obey whatever the system says. Yes, that same system what told you to remind us to click it on EVERY. SINGLE. VIDEO. Down with the system! Give the power back to the cats! Instead, I check your page whenever I can to make sure I've seen it all.

    Vaos, I have a tutorial request. I still struggle with reentry for my SSTOs. Even with RCS build aid to ensure they're properly balanced, I still tend to have issues flipping, or under the best case I tend to bounce off the atmosphere once or twice before "digging in" and getting down to flight altitude. Would you be willing to do a detailed reentry tutorial for spaceplanes, for things like Angle of Attack, orbital altitude, etc. That'd be really helpful. Great video as always!

    Head on into the administration building and buy yourself the upgraded transponder...+5% to +15% for minimum vehicle recovery costs, -6% to -10% for the max, price ranges from $75k to $550k...
    Or simply land on a runway or launchpad...

    @bismuth2672 Před 3 měsíci +4

    quick question: does it do the same for larger craft? like imagine you loose not a percentage of the craft price but a thing related to the mass or the size of the vehicle 🤔
    or maybe somthing totaly unrelated?
    (it's probably just a percentage of the craft price but I can't stop wondering 😅)

    • @bradley9201
      @bradley9201 Před 3 měsíci +2

      It is the same percentages for all craft. If you land a 200 part vessel at the sph you'll still get 98% (or whatever the percentage was) of the money you spent making the craft.

    Love the idea, but now I have another question
    Does the funds recovery reduction scale linearly with the original cost of the craft or does it reach a fixed amount and then it stops?

    • @user-vl9ju3vx9u
      @user-vl9ju3vx9u Před 3 měsíci

      Many people said it scales linearly with the original cost

    • @DeepProbe
      @DeepProbe Před 3 měsíci +1

      There is no dependence from craft's cost. Only from range.
      If you'll get, say, 80% in return for your 10k worth ship - landing at the same point a 1B worth ship will bring you the same 80% of total ship's cost (includig fuel/ore/cargo/crew belongings).

      I want charts and graphs that show in detail the relationship between craft refund %, distance from KSC, and original craft cost; preferably line graphs with color coded data points. For this project, you will need graph paper, multiple color pens, and an expensive research team to do a study that takes a year too long and goes 200% over budget.
