@@amandaisbored_ actually that makes so much sense! She likely has hundreds of babies and that's why she wasn't that bothered about giving up this one 🤷🏼♀️
Tbh I think the film would have benefited from the idea that the parents knew he was a mermaid and hid it from him. It would be cliche to some extent but it would also make some things less bad like their lack of concern for his symptoms. I also don’t get the electric aspect at all. They should’ve done more to avoid that one. 😂
She missed that, in the movie the parents knew he wasn’t normal/special and they clearly found him.. that’s why the mom was hesitant to take him to a doctor lol it was all a silly movie but yea..
As an American introducing my British boyfriend to DCOM's for the first time, I've never in my life felt the shame that I did when it came time to show him 'Luck of the Irish'😭😭😂 there have been a few other rough ones as well, but having to see the reaction to 'Luck of the Irish' from someone who has Irish relatives and grew up with the culture was a rollercoaster to say the least 😅
Wait, wait, wait. So, all these crazy things start happening once Cody turns 13. Starting right on his birthday. How do his "adoptive" parents - a.k.a. the parents who stole a baby from the middle of the ocean - know his birth date, to begin with? 😂 I feel like Disney didn't even try to make this movie make sense.
I’d assume they’d have an idea because of how old he was when they found him. Like they probably wouldn’t be right on the dot but they could at least get within the month? Or they could just call the day they found him his birthday.
But they thought it would make sense for mom to not like doctors so there was no way one would be able to see Cody was a mermaid child. Their logic was completely broken.
Please make this a series!!! I am an older mom (I was 38 when my son was born in 2003). That was a very funny commentary on a highly bizarre movie. I had forgotten how exquisitely weird this movie was. It was like multiple random people walking by Disney headquarters submitted chapters and someone at Disney glued it all together...badly. I had to Google Brink it seems weird enough to provide laughs, so yes do a commentary. Please do Smart House (1999). This movie has violence against children, false imprisonment, stalking, invasion of privacy and that is all I can remember in 60 seconds!

What’s also wild is that in schools (at least in my experience growing up and now being a teacher), the popular kids actually usually are the ones making really good grades. The kids that don’t do their work and slack off often are the outcasts.
I think it varies by school and local culture/values. I’m a 2019 grad but at my high school the popular kids were the class clowns and “dumb jock” stereotypes who everyone knew got poor test scores and never did their homework, while the kids who visibly excelled were thought of as lame and boring. I live in Hawaii and that was with a primarily local Filipino-mix community where most parents only had a high school diploma, so I think academics just wasn’t priority. Versus my sister’s currently a senior at the high school a valley over from mine where the community is more involved in business and the local community college is, and at her school the popular kids usually do pretty well academically
I miss the old Disney channel 🥺 I’m 48 and there was a time in my late 20’s where I was addicted to that channel lol. My son was 12 and we used to watch Lizzie Macquire, Hanna montanna, my favorite was “ya little nasty” can you guess what show that’s from? Lol I still use that phrase.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE this format for you!!! hearing you get more and more incredulous as you described this movie was so entertaining. it made me feel like my friend was in the room talking to me about it and slowly losing their mind 👏 primo content, i’d love to see more!
I vote that you absolutely make more of these videos. 😂 I haven't watched any Disney Channel Original Movies since I hit 20, and so looking back on them as an adult... it's wild. And your commentary is 🔥
One that truly felt like a fever dream was Stepsister from Planet Weird...highly recommend watching or re-watching that one. Would lovee know who signed off on it and did the CGI work
That was a wild movie. I have a huge love for the old classic Disney Channel (DC) Original Movies. My two favorites were the original Under Wraps, Mom's Got a date with a vampire and Phantom of the Megaplex. The 90s Under Wraps did scare me when I was a kid at that time. I loved how they made The Wart creature so creepy, vile and monsterous. (Yes that fictional beast within a movie) Compare him to the remake and yeah it was completely different. Mom's Got a date with a Vampire that was somewhat wild for another DC Halloween movie. The title says it all, but there was a scene that was cut out for obvious reasons, I saw it on its premier date, the vampire when he stares at the dog he wanted to eat it, but he doesn't want to spoil his appetite. Phantom of the Megaplex, that movie terrified me whenever the phantom laughs.
I am HERE FOR THIS SERIES🎉 I remember watching this movie and didn’t not notice all these weird undertones and inconsistencies in the film. The way you simulated putting on a seatbelt to lead us into the 180 the movie went SENT ME! I now need to rewatch this for nostalgic sake and your retelling was chefs kiss 💜 MORE OF THESE! 🧜♀️
I absolutely adore this film!!! As a young girl mermaids were ((and still are)) my biggest obsession. Maybe it’s the nostalgia, but I see no flaws with this film. Still at age 21 I look at this film with fondness
I’ve been thinking of this movie out of nowhere lately and then you upload!! 13th Year was probably the first Disney Channel movie I ever saw and I LOVED it. I had the biggest crush on the main character when I was little. It’s hilarious hearing your perspective because everything you said is absolutely valid 😅
I was convinced for all of this episode that I hadn't seen this movie, until you showed the still of Cody with the finny arms he was trying to hide from his (12 year old) gf, and then I realized I have seen this and I feel like I just pulled something up from way deep in my memory hole and I really didn't need to 🤣
... oh my god. I COMPLETELY forgot that this movie ever existed. I vaguely remembered the plot involving mermaids, but I had zero memory of the actual details. Wow. This just makes me want to dig back into the history of Disney originals and see what other nonsense they were putting out there, because this can't be the only movie as ridiculous as this.
I loved this movie as a kid! I haven’t seen it in at least 10 years, so I appreciate you’re realistic review. I love this style of video and hope you feel better soon! 💗
Better ending: he has Jesse compete for him, but Jesse stumbles and almost drowns, Cody has to jump in and save him. The other kids are confused and grossed out by his fins, but Jesse stands up for him. Socially scorned by everyone else, Jess and Cody leave as best friends
A series summarizing/reviewing Disney Channel Original movies is all that I have EVER wanted!!! Absolutely fantastic idea, Hannah! Loved this and can't wait for the next one!
I completely missed this movie growing up, but it sounds exactly like the kind of thing I would’ve been into. This video is great, and I hope you decide to do more about old Disney original movies! I think my favorite Disney original was The Luck of the Irish, it was SO bizarre I couldn’t help but love it (Also not a Disney original, but I was absolutely obsessed with The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It. It was one of the things that jump started my love of horror and it’ll always hold a special place in my heart)
OMG I didn't realize how much I needed this!!! I TOTALLY remember this movie now!! It's crazy how much of it just seemed to make sense when I first watched it as a kid hahaha! Please please please do more of these! And yes I totally used to love Brink! Team Pup N Suds! I also remember Johnny Tsunami, Xenon, Smart House, Luck of the Irish, The Halloweentown movies, Pixel Perfect, a few with Aliens but I can't remember their names, I think there was one where Kirk Cameron could talk to dogs? I vaguely remember one where the was surfing and a girl with a dead mom. Basically there is a LOT of stuff that I'm sure doesn't actually hold up to adult logic so PLEASE continue this series!
This was LITERALLY my favorite Disney movie! I remember watching it every year when I was younger (like ages 8-12 or something) cuz I loved mermaids so much. So weird to hear about someone not seeing it until they were an adult but now I gotta watch it again and see if it gives me all the feels still
I haven’t watched yet only read the title! The 13th year legit made me think I was going to become a mermaid at 13 😩🤣🤣. I was scared and excited at the same time. My parents would reassure me that I wasn’t found or adopted and I look just like my dad. But I was not convinced 😩🤣🤣
Wow I love this so much! I had so much fun watching this. So nostalgic and so entertaining. You did an amazing job breaking down the movie.👏🏾🔥Insane that it was one of my favs growing up yet so toxic & I had NO idea. PLEASE don’t stop doing these. Brink was also one of my favs 😩 would love to see the break down
I loved this movie as a kid! I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it from the same perspective anymore now that I realize how insane the plot actually was 😂 can’t wait for more in this new series! ❤️
Ah yes, my childhood. Brink, Johnny Tsunami, The Color of Friendship, Double Teamed, Gotta Kick It Up, Motocrossed, Go Figure (nooooo), Cow Belles, Stuck in the Suburbs... my god, there were so many of them...
Pleeeeaaase do another one of these soon! I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks. Your recap was hilarious and now I need to rewatch some of these movies 😭😂
to add to the conversation about the damaging nerd stereotype - i'm from Finland, never watched Disney Channel and still the trope lived very strongly in the movies and tv shows that we all used to watch. And yes i was bullied for my whole life for being "that nerd". Very nice
This was awesome! I feel like any topic you cover, from serious to lighthearted, is always enthralling. I get distracted VERY easily, but I always watch your videos all the way through, start to finish. Love you, Hannah!
Your story telling was so good! I was working on my stuff while listening to you narrating the whole film and I can just imagine every scene with the way you portrayed each character and their action. Really awesome!
I imagine a conference table full of old stuffy white dudes with one standing at a white board, coming up with the "Let's make Cody a member of the swim team" and all the laughter from their cleverness. I've never been a Disney fan and I never had cable to watch the Disney Channel which, honestly, thank god.
Yes to brink! I'd also love...miracle in Lane 2, motocrossed, horse sense, the other me, smart house, jumping ship, don't look under the bed, the luck of the Irish, a ring of endless light, tru confessions, step sister from planet weird, rip girls, you wish and double teamed. These ones are the ones that stuck in my memory all these years and would LOVE to see your commentary on any of them 😊
Hi Hannah, hope you’re doing okay!! We love and miss you lots but don’t feel pressured to make content, ur mental health if of course the priority! Just know so many people care about you :)
'Brink' & 'Under Wraps' were my favorite when I was real little. I feel like 'You Lucky Dog' was incredibly bananas too, like a guy leaves everything to his dog.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE this format for you!!! hearing you get more and more incredulous as you described this movie was so entertaining. it made me feel like my friend was in the room talking to me about it and slowly losing their mind 👏 primo content, i’d love to see more!
I now need to rewatch this for nostalgic sake and your retelling was chefs kiss 💜
MORE OF THESE!
YES not enough people talk about this movie 😭
also, you’re def putting the GLOW in Smokey Glow right now!
I was convinced for all of this episode that I hadn't seen this movie, until you showed the still of Cody with the finny arms he was trying to hide from his (12 year old) gf, and then I realized I have seen this and I feel like I just pulled something up from way deep in my memory hole and I really didn't need to 🤣
this was my favourite movie as a kid 😭 but being older now, god how weird and insane it really was lol
I LOVED this movie as a kid!! I forgot all about it, now i have to go watch it for nostalgia 😭
I can’t believe on how much I am dying laughing my butt off during this video. Smokey glows commentary in here is fire.
Don't forget "Smart house" that one was also pretty crazy 😂
This video is incredible 😂. Thank you, Smokey Glow! 🙌🤩
I remember watching Cody get kidnapped and thinking it was odd, but also thinking it must have been normal because it was being shown in the movie…
Here for the Disney videos! Your reaction to the eel comparison had me dying 😂😂
The book this film is based on is even weirder. Highly recommend checking it out.
I just saw you in the trailer for the movie "Not okay"!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh! How cool! Congratsss
I live for you taking our fav Disney movies to dissect and destroy them 😂 honestly tho, I live for your content and I love this video!
PLEASE MAKE THIS A SERIES!! i loved watching this video so much!
Please keep doing this series 😂
Please continue this series!! Love all your videos ❤️
Yo smokey, longtime fan. do you need an editor / motion graphics work by any chance?
Hey Smokey I hope you’re doing well
Pleeeeaaase do another one of these soon! I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks. Your recap was hilarious and now I need to rewatch some of these movies 😭😂
You have not posted In a while... I hope you are okay!
Oh my god this is the series I’ve been dreaming of. Can you do Cadet Kelly 🥺
to add to the conversation about the damaging nerd stereotype - i'm from Finland, never watched Disney Channel and still the trope lived very strongly in the movies and tv shows that we all used to watch. And yes i was bullied for my whole life for being "that nerd". Very nice
This was awesome! I feel like any topic you cover, from serious to lighthearted, is always enthralling. I get distracted VERY easily, but I always watch your videos all the way through, start to finish. Love you, Hannah!
this movie was insane! thanks for talking about it haha 😭
This was my FAVE Disney original. I dreamed of being a mer-person 😂
Please do more of these types of videos!! We love your opinions and the nostalgia dynamic is A+
I remember loving this movie when I was younger lol Now I'm convinced, writing the whole script, was a huge fuckin acid trip 🤣🤣🤣
I love this kind of content from you! My only suggestion is I would love more clips from the movie
Hey Hannah i Hope you are doing well ❤️ looking forward to a new video 🥰 have a good one kisses and greetings from Germany 😘
