Picked up three of these at Dally’s back in November and excited to try this color out on stripers and hybrids this spring. Just tied one on my 8wt.
Nice!! Thanks!!
Really enjoyed the video. The action on this thing is crazy too!! It stalls, lifts that foam head, twists it's back end! They can't resist it!
❤️ LOVIN THIS ONE!
Fished this pattern for the first time last weekend. It absolutely crushed smallies. Back to the fly shop for more materials!
Ive got sooooo many ideas for this head style already! Snakeheads are gonna CHOKE this thing! Awesome fly!
Been waiting for this one for a while. Killer color pattern 🤘
Ill see you at feather-craft in October. keep up the good work!!
What a cool pattern. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic tie.I think that craft fur along with the other synthetics reign supreme.Bucktail is out!Stood the test for years but my god how many deer roam the earth without tails ha ha!Keep up the great work.
I still love bucktail........
Such a cool pattern!Love the color combo!
Love this fly, cant wait to try one myself. Love the posts .
Ok… I just ask a dumb question on your Meathead Custom Eyes vid. You can’t buy the foam head, you have to make it. Got it!
Wow just wow! What an alien 👽 tie🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
So cool
I bought one at Dally’s and it looks nothing like this one. Kenya is doing you no justice. No wonder the one I bought want catch shit 😂. Just proves if you want a good fly tie it yourself
Thanks for sharing one of your own patterns Brian. It was definitely well worth the wait and something I will have to try, don't have that foam, but got sheets of foam that I could cut in strips, but that would be too flat of foam for this pattern. So what inspired the head design? Were you tying some foam ants or hoppers and thought, hmmm I am tired of spinning and stacking deer hair and the pain it is to tie and the big mess it makes so I will use this foam instead? I bet one could tie a Zoo Cougar or even a knucklehead frog with that head design and material. Fish it on a full sink or could an intermediate sink work?
Next new product from Hairline: Brian Wise's Knucklehead foam.
Killer pattern. I just need a new streamer box to put some in 😁
Actually, they already carry Chicone's Fettuccine Foam! Check it out! www.feather-craft.com/item/tb115/chicone-s-fettucine-foam/1.html
what weight fly rod are you using with these bigger double hook flies? they look awesome, and last night I tried cutting my own fettuccini foam out of sheets from Hobby lobby. is there something special with the fettuccini foam you are using? thanks, and I really appreciate your channel/content.
Thanks for watching!! I am an 8wt guy for the VAST majority of these flies. A sinking line is required for a lot of them, so an 8wt handles the line easier than lighter lined rods. Nothing special with the fettuccini foam.....but you 'can' get sparkly foam at Hobby Lobby, FYI. :)
Bout dang time!!! But worth the wait.
Might be a silly question, but can you use this pattern for browns or is it mostly a warm water species type a pattern?
To my knowledge, the Knucklehead has around 15 species under its belt. Warmwater, coldwater, saltwater, from Brown Trout, to Stripers, to Snook.
I'm going have to tie one of those someday. But one question, what is the fur you were using, I'm guessing polar fiber craft fur maybe?
Regular Craft Fur.....super simple!
So I don't know where I read or saw it but I hear you fish for striped bass in AR. What flies do you like for Striped bass? We have them here in Texas and I actually like catching them more than trout. I know this is heresy among flyfishermen.
Definitely NOT heresy!! Stripers are crazy-awesome.!
We use Knuckleheads and Double Deceivers to target them on my river in Missouri. Pretty much the same flies we use to target big browns.
We don’t have big trout where I live in TX. What colors do you like for Stripers? Solid white? Ever tried Dave Whitlock’s shad flies? I got stuff to do them and haven’t gotten around to it yet. I use an olive leech on the Brazos as an all around fly and catch them up to 24”. With the foam on the head is it safe to assume you won’t be able to get the Knuckleheads super deep?
@@gcmillar Just like all swim flies, the Knucklehead will get as deep as the line takes it. A sinking line is a must. For Stripers, I usually stay lighter colored like White, Gray/White, Chartreuse/White, etc.
Nice head👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks bro
Thanks!
What is the function of the foam besides looking like it is ready to go to war?
It's main purpose is to force the fly to "keel" or swim with the hooks on the bottom side of the fly. I got sick of having so many big streamers flop on their side, this fly can't do that.
I tried tying a couple of these recently and can't quite get the head right, any tips? I'm going to guess my problem is that I let the foam move down the sides of the shank when I tie it in, so I going to guess the solution is to keep the foam on top of the shank when I tie it in?
Shoot a photo of it to me and I can probably tell you what you are doing. bnwise@gmail.com
Brian, when you do the patterns other than “cotton candy” do you still do a multi color fur stack with the corresponding ripple? I cant get good looks at the other variations you’ve done to see if its just more stacks of one color, 2 colors, or its just not as “bulky” and you just do the single of one color and post it up with the uv. Im dying to get one of these attempted. Haha. Rather do your pattern justice.
Good question! No matter how many colors are used for the Main Wing, you still need to use the same amount of Craft Fur. So, if you use 2 colors of CF for the wing or 1 color, you have to end up with the same amount of CF used for that wing or things will get wonky.
Can you tie with with a single hook just the front hook?
Proportions would be way off if tied with one hook. If you fish an area that has regulations against an articulated fly, you can always tie the rear portion with a Flymen Shank.
Thanks!!
That "music" is ridiculous. Had to turn it off.
Material names plz sir
