Fly Tying - Brian Wise's Knucklehead Deep

- This video will cover how to tie the second version of Brian Wise's Knucklehead...the Knucklehead Deep. Utilizing rabbit strips and lead eyes to help the fly get deeper, this version of the Knucklehead is also a little smaller than the original but still has all the movement--while getting a little deeper. FANTASTIC smallmouth pattern, but can easily target largemouth, rainbow trout, brown trout, pike, small musky, and stripers.....pretty much anything that will eat a baitfish.

Nice , this is a good color combo tied some like this and in black and chartreuse and olive and white . The rainbows in Alaska love them . Thanks for sharing
Man, I have loved this fly since seeing your article in Fly Tyer. I may have to get into this big streamer game someday, but this thing is bigger than a lot of the fish I catch in the tailwaters here in the mid-Atlantic. Nice tie Brian.
Thanks!!
dude that is awesome. thanks . see ya joe.
Great video Brian Thank's . I tied a knuckle head in black & chartreuse as my first knuckle head the boy's at feather craft loved it. I'll have to try this weighted pattern.
I love Black and Chartreuse......so tasty.
Another Awesome pattern and tie Brian glad to see you got your spread in fly Tyer . Your videos are top notch as always. The bass were smashing this pattern last weekend I even took a few pike on it.
Cheers!
Gorgeous tie as always! Thanks for the great content.
Thanks so much!
That is a stud of a fly..Nice
Cool, huh? Let me know how it fishes!
i like the color will have to try a few nice job
Thanks!
Brian, the Knucklehead Deep performed like a champ while fishing a lake in Michigan. Several smallies and a brown were caught using it with a sinking line. Unfortunately, the sample fly you sent was completely destroyed later that day by a decent-sized Pike.
Super cool! Send pics!!
Pretty awesome 😎 and the Hobby Lobby glitter strips are a nice touch.
Another variation that you could try is one on the new Ahrex GBR Predator swimbait hook 🪝 for a weedless option.
Great job as always Brian.
Thanks! This fly wouldn't work really well with those keel hooks, but I may have to work on a version that would!
@@flyfishingtheozarks you are welcome Brian. True the polar flash chenille would be tougher to put on that type of hook 🪝. I know that you could do some tweaks and build a version that would work. Thank you for the response.
love this fly!! 😍✨
Thanks for watching! When might we see a CZcams video from you?? 🙂
@@flyfishingtheozarks very soon.. ☺️
Very Nice indeed. It's the Best one in it's Catagory of "Intruder-like" Streamer👍And fine Jazz🎷🎺 as well 😉 Can you PLEASE tell me what the vise is?
Thanks!! The vise is the Peak LIRS....absolutely awesome!
Awesome fly! Does the foam make it float if using a floating line? or keep it upright with sinking line? Love the action in your test machine. I’m going tie some up and find out! 🙂 Thanks for your great vids.Have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend Brian! 👍👌☄️💥🇺🇸
Much appreciated! The foam definitely doesn't make it float, pretty much all it does is keep it upright in the water.
Cool nice 👍 tie
Thanks, Chris!
Nice fly Brian. I have to get my tying bench set up again and get some of these done. How are things down there in the Ozarks? Keep the good stuff coming.
You do! Things are good, super fun stuff coming up!!
Great looking tie! I was wondering though, when tying on the eyeballz, why do you tie them on top, and then roll them over to the bottom? Wouldn't you just tie them on the bottom to start with? Seems like it would save time and a step
If you turn the hook over to tie the eyes in right from the start, the hook-point is flirting with your fingers a lot more. 🙂
@@flyfishingtheozarks Makes a lot of sense!! Thank you for replying!
Brian I haven't slept for 2 days now, and I Very Sincerely hope that you and Others Forgive my error in this Never-ending Comment 😊
HAHAHA, no worries!!
very cool fly! if you were limited by regulations to one hook and wanted to still tie it articulated would you go with a front or back hook? Cheers
Front Hook, 100%!
Nice streamer,,, can I try to tie it to see how it looks for a photo of my instagram?
Of course!
@@flyfishingtheozarks Thanks brian when i tie it i'll tag you on instagram, thanks again
Can you do more step by step videos?
Nice tly injoy
Do you always go top to bottom with your trailing hook wire?
Yeah, just how I have always done it. I do tippet the same way so I started articulating that way and have never stopped.
What material are you using to attach the bead and rear hook?
Beading wire.
won't the magnum rabbit strip wrap as its casted?
It does at times, usually only happens when I mess up a cast. 😉
Part 2: Oh also, I caught the World Record Steelhead in OR. if you'd like to Catch one similar to it, come on over, I'll guide you for 10%of my usual fee of 0.00 USD lol But I Can't guarantee Same Size fish. 😂 But Seriously I Caught it on a Streamer (my own pattern). And basically on the same pattern, I caught a Monster Sea-Run Brown (Salmo trutta caspius), 3X the mass of largest ones in Scandinavia!! I was Only 17 , fishing a River that empties into the mighty Caspian Sea, But Not, on the former USSR Side (North)!! I'm embarrassed to tell you that I dispatched it 😊 And my family and I ate it, Yum Yum 😋 But Please Cut me some slack I was a Kid in the 1960s??! 😊
Intermediate with sink tip?
Totally depends on the water you are fishing. The fly does sink, especially after it soaks up some water.
