Upgrading Geo's Old Real Street Supra Build From 2013 With New Mods!

- You might recognize this car. This was Geo's 2nd Supra that you may have seen in our early videos on CZcams or in person at events around 2014 and up (You can still find those videos on here). Watch as Geo & Jay go over the car and engine setup. This car had a lot of experimenting done over the years going from a high 9 second car to a low 8 second street car with A/C and all the comfort features this car came with from factory. We are talking about a low 8 second Supra that was driven on the streets back in 2013. Now we upgraded the ECU a made some small changes to what's already a proven recipe. Still a street car and now even better than before.

I can’t believe this build is this old!!! I can’t believe I’ve been following this build for this long.
Been a long time since the trip to Ohio to grab that car with my dad. I totaled a red mk4 he had and we picked up this as a rolling chassis to replace it. Car made a little over 900 and ran mid 9s when my dad sold it to geo. I love to see it still around town. I have a lot of good memories on the street in that car

Excellent video as always. Driving a 1300hp Supra on an AEM V1 was a handful. I can only imagine how much better it would be with todays technology.

I highly agree. The amount of technology, data, information, and experience that both the Supra and 2JZ communities have gained over time is impressive. It's possible to make a very consistent car that's also comfortable to drive.
Can't wait to get my built VVTi GTE on the road. Imagine taking any of these modern builds and showing it to someone in the early 2000s. They'd be shocked at the powerband and smooth delivery at all driving styles.

I wonder if they knew back then how capable the Supra would be! For sure it was at the peak of competition between Japanese manufacturers and these were built with motorsport domination in mind, but this must still be beyond what Toyota were ever designing for.
Driver- "What's the problem officer?"
Police Officer- "Is that a parachute on the back?"
Driver- "It came stock with that from factory."

Do you run your TCS wheel slip error factor at a percentage of slip or is it a hard number?
Motec M1 series factory firmware has two main tables for traction control, Traction Aim and Traction Range. Traction Aim Compensation table allows you to to control the slip angle over a variety of inputs/parameters. Traction Range uses an RPM parameter to provide an RPM range that the engine/wheels can slip and control the severity of the cut.
Tuning the TC initially is an involved process as you need to adjust it with experience to certain conditions and it will reduce timing - in Jay's tuning - instead of CUT timing, which is that aggressive type traction control that's similar to an intermediate rev limiter.
I have a Racelogic TC control in my supra and it cuts injector pulse (not timing) as part of the TC strategy - it's more aggressive than the Motec based on the technology. For Drag racing the M1 TC setup can actually make you quicker on the street or strip and safer so you don't blow the tire and send the car sideways.
Imho, Motec and custom firmware that can be built for the M1 platform, is the most superior ECU out there - but it does come as a price of 2-3x that of a Haltech and a high degree of complexity so you must get package that's most suited to your budget and aim and also tuner's ability.

We do. VVTI is awesome. This engine was built long ago so we didn’t do it.

Jay why did you say you need some level of wheel spin?
You need to maintain a degree of wheel spin that the tire can recover from, so you can maintain momentum and not have an aggressive cut where momentum and thus acceleration is lost. The torque output for ICE engines and the control of such is multi factorial and non-linear or constant - compared to an electric engine, where you can control the torque with a PID control and monitor wheel slip through the engine's drivers and sensors with a high rate of control.
Motorsport TC is about compromise between wheel slip and acceleration - where as manufacture TC is about safety where the torque is momentarily shut off to avoid an accident or a high degree of wheel spin.

Been building mine for far too long. As Ive aged the cars power level has gone down. I wanted 700 plus because supra. As I get near the finish I want about 450hp or less for the street lol the old man in me is showing.
