    Purchased this for a 4 day trip in the sequoia National Forrest, ended up needing the sos feature because of extreme altitude sickness and dehydration. I cannot stress enough how useful this device was, it allowed me to text with a emergency response operator, and got me connected with a helicopter that got me to safety. Amazing device that was totally worth it

      Had you purchased the rescue insurance? What were the costs related to the incident? Thanks for any info you're willing to provide. I'm heading to Alaska having just purchased the mini 2 with rescue insurance. Seems like a no-brainer at $30 for the insurance.

    • @temp6156
      @temp6156 Před rokem +7

      @@Johnbobon definitely don’t cheap out on the insurance. I was picked up by state funded rescue helicopter which was California Highway Patrol. But I spoke to them afterwards about what the cost would have been. The helicopter life flight to the hospital could have been anywhere between $20,000 to $100,000. Your health insurance may cover a couple thousand but nowhere near as much as the insurance available to you through garmin and the set up.

    Absolute beast. I have an idea that would make sales boom even more with this cool company.

    In the future can you make the carabiner hole large enough to accommodate a standard climbing carabiner? The hole is only large enough for a Garmin carabiner and it's not climbing strength.................not a deal breaker, but it would be easy enough to fix in the future :)

    A few questions:
    1. I believe you said that the hidden trackback is saved for the last 10 minutes. Is that correct?
    2. Is there a subscription fee for the IECC service?
    3. Is this product waterproof? The reason I am asking, is because my wife does Stand Up Paddle boarding, here on our island in Japan. There have been instances of people being swept out to the ocean. As a matter of fact, last week, a woman was swept out 40km. If something like that ever happens with my wife, would this product be useful?
    4. Lastly, how long is the battery life?
    Your video is great. I was wondering if there is a retail video with all the technical stuff?

    Great device, love my InReach Mini.

      I can't imagine anyone actually using the Mini for GPS navigation. This thing loses signal every time I look at it. Besides, the screen is so small and there is no map. Of course, you can use your phone for larger screen, but then just use it for GPS navigation and forget about the Mini altogether.

    Hi! Glad to see these improvements as I'm about to buy an inreach device.
    I've a very important question to kill my doubts: Mini 2 + Smartphone is comparable to a Gpsmap 66i ?
    Or Gpsmap 66i is still more complete or has better performance in communication or GPS or tracking... ?
    Thanks a lot!!!

    • @GarminRetailTraining
      @GarminRetailTraining  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you for your question. There are quite a few differences between the inReach Mini 2 and GPSMAP 66i. I've included a link below to a comparison chart between the two. One big difference you'll notice immediately is the battery life. On top of that, you'll notice differences in maps and memory, smart features, and some activity features. All-in-all, you'll see that the GPSMAP 66i is a more complete, all-inclusive device, but it really depends on your use case. I hope this helps.

      @@Jay151 Better screen? It is still a tiny, monochrome screen. There is virtually no practical benefit in the "better screen" of the Mini 2.
      Revised hardware... that remains to be seen. Improved battery life can simply come from tweaking the firmware, dumbing it down...aka making it perform even worse.
      Someone actually uses a Mini for navigation? Use a dedicated GPS for that, or at least your phone. The Mini can't hold a GPS signal, it constantly loses it. No way you gonna navigate with something so terrible.

We made some hardware changes as well. Specifically, we put in a higher resolution display, a highly requested USB-C charging port, and an improved battery life (think days, not hours).
