- A young woman brings a costumed stranger to her sister's dinner party.

Hannah is on her way to her sister Julia's dinner party. Walking to the dinner, Hannah is accosted by a drunk man but is extricated from the situation by a friendly stranger in a costume. Feeling grateful, Hannah spontaneously invites him to Julia's dinner. Julia, however, is not happy about Hannah's spontaneous guest, hoping to set the free-spirited Hannah up with a friend of hers and her husband's.
At the dinner, most people dance around the topic of the stranger and his costume, trying to be polite about the fact that he's wearing a SpongeBob costume but weirded out by it behind closed doors. As the dinner wears on -- and Hannah's would-be suitor Daniel arrives -- tensions come to a head between the sisters as their agendas clash.
Directed by Drew Bierut and written by Dan Brier, this clever and incisive short blends both gentle absurdism with a comedy of manners. Its jumping-off point is both silly and high-concept, allowing the excellent writing to explore how this group handles someone's admittedly eccentric difference and how it ruptures the social fabric. But with its well-drawn personalities and willingness to fully explore its premise, it also shows surprising emotional depth and resonance that make for a truly engaging watch.
Shot with a low-key naturalism, the writing and pacing are deft and brisk, quickly establishing the narrative groundwork: two different sisters, a dinner and then an anarchic element of a friendly stranger in a costume. Much of the action and tension is built when the dinner party starts in earnest, beginning with Julia's reaction to Hannah's last-minute guest. The scenes oscillate between different groupings, each revealing the characters' perspectives and values and mining the awkwardness for both comedy and insight. The obvious question is why the stranger is wearing a SpongeBob costume, but no one outright asks it, instead either politely alluding to it, ignoring it or joking about it.
Being on some level a comedy of manners, the film's ensemble cast collectively delivers solid, understated performances, led by actors Emma Pasarow as an earnest, spontaneous Hannah and Talia Goodman as the well-meaning but judgmental sister Julia. Kudos go to actor Dillon J Stücky as the titular character, who ably conveys regular-guy decency and affability, even in costume. Bob is generally kind, polite and friendly. But despite his civil demeanor, warmth and earlier heroics, his presence still wreaks havoc on this social occasion, leading to a more outright confrontation between the sisters.
Funny, sharply observed and finely crafted, BOB could conceivably emphasize the absurdism of the costumed stranger or hammer home the metaphor of how we're unable to deal with social differences head on. But instead, it makes a deeper, more humane choice to both reveal the man underneath it and the reason why he wears it. It also chooses to explore the connection that can happen when people truly accept each other and look beyond the surface, seeing who someone is by their words and actions. In doing so, it achieves a warmer, more open-hearted resonance, leaving audiences with nothing less than a sense of optimism and a renewed belief in the power of human connection. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
If Nickelodeon takes it down, it’s canon
Imma save this
@@emmanuelhill6648 same here 😊
Lmao wtf
@@emmanuelhill6648if you save it, if it gets taken down won’t you not see it?
@@robynskei you can download it and save it
The piano was a bit rude but I don't think that anyone who thinks to ask if they should take their shoes off could be a serial killer.
unless they are trying to limit dna shedding 😂 Glad it ended this way though
@@pion137 I only know what I've seen on tv but I figure you'd shed more in socks than shoes because of sweat
Sponge Bob might be square by shape, but he's not the one living the square life.
deeper than the bikini bottom
😂 Good One.
Hey that's cool.
I like that she also left along with her guest when the cops were escorting him out...🙌
Gotta admit, i also thought corporate real estate was just selling big buildings. 😬
Yeah. I can't imagine what else it could be. She seemed so rude.
According to the dictionary & Wikipedia, that's basically what it is haha! However large parcels of land & tiny buildings may also be involved… I wonder if they ever sell abandoned oil rig platforms?
I think if Bob showed his face to Julia she wouldn't call the police. Even without knowing that he was a famous DJ. But not seeing his face made her super uncomfortable. This shows how much we humans have evolved to rely on seeing the face of the person we interact with - the closer we interact, the more we need to see their face. This is because we try to predict person's behaviour by reading their reactions, we try to judge how much we can trust them, and when we cannot see the face we freak out.
What you say is Fair BUT completly doesnt take into account that she jumped to saying 'Hes OBVIOUSLY mentally ill'
That line did her innn
@@slevinchannel7589 She was in her home, she wanted to feel safe in her own house. To be completely honest, he did behave a little eccentric, he showed disrespect to their space by going on tour around the house and playing piano without asking their permission - to many people this is very uncomfortable. So, she freaked out because not seeing his face made her feel vulnerable and she got nervous and protective of herself and her house the only way she knew how. We all think of people, whose behaviour is very different from ours, that they are mad, no matter if it is true or not - this is our perception. Especially when their behaviour is unpredictable.
@@-svet-ka- Nonsense, your being oversensitive af
This is a short that genuinely made me feel good here at the end of the day. I don’t smile much but that changed and it felt like a breath of fresh air. Bob was perfectly cast as were all the actors.
PS. Everyone knows not to try to wrestle a bottle of wine back after an old drunk accosts you on the street. That was the only squeak that was screaming for an oil change.
This is refreshing.
Plus, he made her feel special throughout
I'm glad he eventually took that silly costume off, so we could see what he looked like.
Lovely short film. I always expected something bad to happen, but this is such a satsifying good ending. The Bob character has this "ugly frog, charming prince" archetype, but the way it is all modified is very good. I love it.
@@thatvalensteingirl That thing about not knowing about the Spongebob series was also a small gamechanger for the plot. I mean really, I think it is natural to expect someone to embrace the identity of their costume. But then not all people suited as college football mascots are actually into football. It got me thinking that this skit intentionally made me try to understand who is Robert. But nobody actually needed to. He was just a very cool person who was also a big DJ. And this being part of the social dilemma of partnering up your siblings...
I could just go on and on...
The costume juxtaposed by the matter-of-fact demeanor was hilarious!
'Hes OBVIOUSLY mentally ill'
That line did her innn
This had me laughing the whole time but ended up almost crying at the end, this was a beautiful short film to watch, thank you!
Yeah, I'm pleased and surprised by how much I liked it. Bob turned out to be a pretty nice guy.
I don't know if there are two phrases that make my skin crawl more than "corporate real estate" and "billable hours."
I know too many people like Julia and Grant.
Great film. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well done by all. Thank you!
So this was your idea of a dinner to die for 😄
Loved this wholesome, odd, sweet, and unexpected story!❤❤❤
3:44-3:47: "What? We're gonna like sit and have dinner with SpongeBob f*** SquarePants?" (Slowly raising my hand) I would. This video was hilarious. 😂
Finally, something fun and gentle!
This is a refreshing change of pace. Honestly, I felt that the last 2 or 3 Omeleto shorts I watched were subpar, but this was good and felt (mostly) real despite the absurdity of a guy walking around in a SpongeBob suit. Would love to know how much of this short represents the actual events it's based on.
I agree with everything that you wrote.
Also, at first, I thought that this might be based on an average person's life, which would be true for "based on a true story", but be meaningless.
I love this but I've always loved SpongeBob. Lots of fun. The funny thing is most people want the life the first people have, but when we watch this we all want to identify with the fun spontaneous one. Love to all. Daniel
and to this day, that car is still there.
Nice film without angst for a change.
He was so attractive out of the spongebob costume...I would date him...
I was looking for something not so serious and dramatic to end the night, this was absolutely perfect and funny! Good job to all involved! 👏🏼☺️
Well-conceived, well done short. Kudos all around!
If this really happened in real life then that’s awesome
Seriously? How? It's super awkward.
@@afrinakhanam4696 just like real life
I like Bobb!!
Sweet! Fun! In the real world you have to be super careful about possibly bringing someone you don’t know into someone’s home that could hurt them.
I don’t appreciate people roaming around in my home without permission.
Robert/Bob and the young lady seem kind.
I never liked Bob, but he's actually a likable guy.
You could easily see that they were handling that cigarette as if it were something else and they obviously were not into it, could have cut that part easily as it doesn't really relate to the plot or have them smoke it like normal people would.
Yeah, ithey could have sat there drinking wine, and it wouldn't have made a difference.
I had always imagined that a cute girl would somehow date a guy in a full covered costume who hasn't shown his face to her since they had started meeting. If only there was actual proof that she liked Bob that way and that Bob would still put on his SpongeBob suit during the remainder of their date.
This is undeniably charming - I adore it.
Honestly, I thought he was going to murder them all at dinner. Who knew he was a musical genuis and a nice guy.
Bob is such a nice guy , such a pure smooth and unique individual, I wish I could meet somoune is exactly like him in an alternate
Yay, go bobert!
Best Omelet this month! :D
Really wished he was supposed to be the real SpongeBob 😂
You roll the dice with masked characters, sometimes you get Banksy or the Red Death.
I loved the animation section on the beach…it was such an amazing insight into her soul (also the animation is extremely well done)
Man, if Bob wasn't cleanin' things up scene after scene...keeping an even demeanor too even if others weren't so keen. Not to mention havin' fallen in the sand, AND bein' hassled by the MAN!
I've never seen The TV program SpongeBob. This was hilarious though. Corporate shills doing what corporate shills do when others don't reside in the same box as them. Bravo to Hannah and Bob. And an honorable mention to Daniel
This was so good. Im glad the end wasnt sad. Thank you! 😊
Next, MICK and BUGS joining the BOB universe
NAB
Best thing too show up on my feed
i had skipped through this vid cuz i thought it was going to be crap. but that dinner scene made me go back and watch. brava 👏🏿👏🏿
Bob and the real guy.
Sweet and wholesome, but I'd at least ask to see this stranger's face and know his name before letting into my sister's house.
Puff, Puff, Pass
I think Hannah is totally beautiful inside and out. :-)
Awesome acting performances from everyone 😎
Great video, iconic LA filming locations.
This is the greatest thing iv ever seen. 10/10 no notes
This was hilarious. Loved it. And I love Spongebob.
My twist: It’s “SpongeBob” on land … alias name “Robert” 😯 and him asking her do “You want to keep walking” … will lead to him, ailing his SpongeBob and how he gets by and wants to be honest with her because he likes her too and invites her underwater, of course, with a suit/ helmet❤
Hehe till the end it was unclear if it will be the prince or the beast. Well done 😂
WHAT A LEGEND
Lil lady is wound up a bit tight huh 😳
SpongeBob SquarePants in Times Square should be a movie title 😂
okay so none of you noticed robert walking hastily in the last few frames?
Very interesting animation
This was brilliant 😂
Nickelodeon gonna be livid 😂
This is a beautiful movie. Thank you for.
Everyone except for Daniel are totally annoying. Julia has made a setup without taking permission from her sister, the husband is a spoiled kid who doesn't help his wife in doing household chores, Hanna is super immature and brought Bob with her unannounced to her sister's party and Bob, agreed to go and acted weird in the party by not taking off the mask and playing the piano. Only Daniel was the sane character here who patiently tolerated all these insanity and still wanted a date with Hannah.
THIS IS PEAK FICTION, THIS IS THE GREATEST SHORT MOVIE, MOVIE, FILM AMD SHOW THIS IS PEAK😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️😍😍😍😍😍😍
YO I AM WIT THIS ONE! YEAH MORE LIKE THIS! NO MORE OF THE CREEPY DRAMA FILLED DEPRESSING ISH WE NEED THE POSITIVE OUTCOMES!
Just goes to show how narrow minded we can be. Hannah has an awesome attitude.
If i can't fall in love like this i dont want it ❤😅
Disappointed that they didnt play the Jellyfish Jam @14:50
😂😂😂
.....fkn why 😂😂😂 im dying inside
Sweet, smooth
Why did no one ask for him to take off the costume? Literally I'd have asked the second he came in. I mean I'm sure it's supposed to be part of the story or whatever but no one would go for this.
Hannah would be a Gemini 😢😢😢
Was that Chopin?
This is wonderful! Don't judge a book ... 😊
I love the whole jist of this. Perfectly done!
well i wasnt expecting to see that thumbnail
Wholesome af
Enjoyed it. Thanks!
Great film as always! Hope you make more thanks, for the good vids!
As a Robert I know that we can be a Bob. I however sadly am not as famous as SpongeBob SquarePants.
Not that fond of Mr. Krabs however.
Can someone please tell me the piano piece? Is it Chopin?
I really enjoyed this film thank you
Super sweet!❤
LA 2024. Here we are now.
This was so fun! Thanks!!
That was so warm and charming…I really liked it,.
Smart - Thank you!
Did you know that in spongebob, [Insert fun fact here]
It’s a common misconception, but in fact it’s only 5 inches long
It can grow back even if detached
I want to hear the rest of dj Bob's song. Am I the only one?
I like this cute romcom.
Love it ❤ congrats on another great one omeleto 😊
That was cool..

I loved it
The sponges are not what they seem.
fabulous
Who let Daniel in the house?
Bob's after my time so i don't get it but i get the suit
This is based on a true story?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cuuuuute
