my 8 year old nephew was listening, and about 15 minutes later he goes "why didnt she use her cell phone?" I said..what?! He goes "the pregnant lady with Joe, why didnt she take a picture of the prince on her phone so her mom could believe her?" Poor kids, they dont know a life without technology was the most memorable!
Your mum remind so much of my mum with the sales, I swear she will find a $700 dress for $14.99. Thanks for the storytime Rox, like always making my day more interesting 💕
I love ya story times!!!! My all time favorite is still the time you thought your car was stolen 😅😅😅 I damn near had an asthma attack laughing so hard.... and I dont have asthma! Luv ya Rox!
Funny enough, I grew up in the projects in New Orleans, I too, never felt like my life was in danger and shootings were normal. I think it had something to do with the fact that most of us in the projects were like family we looked out for each other, and unless you were involved with the "goings on" you really had nothing to worry about. Back then, they made sure to leave older people and children out of the mess. Now today...let's just say I'm sure you've heard or seen what goes on now here, lol.
I love your L.A. stories Rox! I grew up In Compton, but I graduated in 76,and spent all of the 80's overseas, where I have moved back to in 2006.You take me home, and I love it!!!!
Rox, you are such a great story teller, I felt like I was right there, even though I've never been to LA or even California. I was picturing what LA looks like from the hood movies, also my family is from Africa so they also have the stone houses with gates around the yards so I got the visual. Glad you shared.
I was watching the Games Documentary Streets of Compton, and it made me think that i would love to hear about growing up in LA during that time from a female prospective. Its usually always from the point of view of males and gang life but I would love to hear what it was like to be female and see all this happening.
Hey Rox, thank you for the stortyime. I'm born in Berkeley & raised in Sacramento, a Cali girl also. Married & moved to Detroit where husband & I were in the phonograph record business, music industry. We had "in-stores" at our record stores & I met all the greats. I am not "star stuck" & don't have many pictures but oh the memories I have in my head. My daughter is on air in Atlanta & she invites me to some wonderful events when I visit her, I'm still not star struck & don't take lots of pictures but I know the experiences I have had & the people I have had the pleasure to meet...oh what a beautiful , rewarding & blessed life I have experienced! I have recounting & reminiscing time with my sister-friends & hopefully someday with my grandchildren.
Rox!!! I love your story times and your other long videos! please please please never stop them. I listen while i do my makeup, shower, hair, film, cook, homework, lol allldat. Your personality is everything. It never gets old lol.
I'm from California and I literally grew up between San Diego and Northern, Ca! This video is sooo funny! Especially the roosters! "Y'all m'efff's shot George!"😂😂😂😭😭😭 Lol!
I LUV story time!!! Thanks for sharing. I was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. It reminded me of the time when me and my mother were returning home and we were only a block away when a young man ran up to the car in front of us, hit it, and ran off. The passenger in that car popped out the window with an assault rifle. I was maybe 9 at the time, but I just remember me and my mom pushed the seats back and started screaming. I really thought I was going to die. Fortunately, nothing happened... the passenger knew who the guy was... I guess they were friends because they were laughing... sad... we were terrified.
Wow, what a week! It's awesome that Joe got to experience some of those events with you, I understand completely why you moved. Just about all of my family live in Southern Virginia and my mother and I still live in Baltimore, Maryland because she didn't want me to live the life that a lot of the men in that area of Virginia lived. You're a very thoughtful person Rox. I could relate to this storytime as far as being in a completely different area than family to live a better life for your family. It's awesome.
It's a sacrifice for sure, my kids miss out on a lot of family events and that makes us all very sad. But we wanted different for them. Not sure if it was worth it, but I just gotta believe that it was the right decision.
+4itsrox Aww Rox, I feel the same way too 😔 when everyone moved from Baltimore to Virginia when I was younger, it crushed my heart (they all moved because my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and was slowly dying. R.I.P.). Now that we are older, it's sad to say it but, I see what my mom meant by she didn't want me down in Virginia because that area is still segregated and they down care about a black man over the age of 18 down there. We visit when we can and its always a great time but it sure does get lonely in Baltimore.
My kids are heartbroken when we visit and leave Los Angeles. I mean full waterworks. They miss everyone, the whole family atmosphere there they don't get here and it gives me a lot of guilt. I wish I could move all my family out here to Atlanta and then I'd probably be better.
I watch you entirely too much Rox! When you were talking about your mom & her shopping. The smile on your face almost made me tear up, I love your connection with her. It reminds me a lot of me & my Mom's.
"never felt unsafe"... that reminds me of a story I read about the genocide in Bosnia back in the day.. there would be dead bodies just laying around the street and kids would just step over them like it was normal.. because it was. Growing up in a warzone blinds you to the danger you're in.. it's not until you get away from it that you realize how crazy it really was.
Ahh this just made my afternoon....I feel like you'e Mother Goose and just read us (the children) a story and we're now ready for nap time. If I was at home I would be ready to turn on the fan and take afternoon nap. Good job Rox!!!
Cool ending! Not sure if you know this, but Charles is very into organic farming etc. He designed the gardens around his home Highgrove and has wildflower meadows etc.
I love story time!!! This was great. That lady said Prince was down there LOL!! It's always funny when kids meet a famous person because they don't care lol It's got to be humbling as hell hahaha
I enjoyed your story Rox! Loved it! Had to laugh because everything was so random. It reminded me of a series of crazy random events that happened to me and my family many years ago. The difference is that all the random madness happened in one night! Lol .... I am glad that you've brought back storytime and am looking forward to the next one!
I grew up in the avenues too!! On 4th Avenue between 52nd & 48th and knew several peeps on 8th Ave. I wasn't scared either, like u said... u just have know how to move. But I eventually got tired of L.A. altogether and moved to No. Central Florida 12 years ago and don't think I will ever move back. Good story though fam.
You have the best storytime! I have been watching you for years. The first video I remember watching was a shoe haul I think way back in the day. I don't comment ever, but I just wanted to thank you for all the entertainment.
As a New Yorker, when we read the title for this video, we instantly thought you had saved this story from when you were in New York for that K. Michelle thing. Lol... Due to #gentrification, 8th Avenue in #NYC has been totally transformed for what some may consider "for the better;" however, there could still be some crazy pockets on that strip, especially after dark. Thought Rox had went out, left the hotel one late night, in search of a deli or something, for some grub and WHO KNOWS what happened next...? Hence, why we clicked on. However, still giving a listen...sounding compelling thus far... part of *this* we read in your blog a while back... @11:39, Yikes! May the Earth Heal! What a world we ALL live in. #Heal
Just finished watching three times in a row and now I'm going to tear myself away so I won't keep watching but definitely a great storytime. I was going to say my favorite but it's hard to rank them because they're all so good.
I love your stories! They keep me on the edge of my seat. I'm gonna replay this story while trying to construct my bookshelf. I'm already looking forward to your next one!
Great story Rox! I enjoyed it, but maaaan, nothing beats the story of you almost dying in the bathtub. I'm sorry but I'm still laughing from that one!!!!!
Great Story Rox!! Thank-you!! I'm from L.A. so I can definitely relate. Those were some scary unpredictable times. Loved the Prince Charles story also...how random was that!! I think that was a sign from God... "Sunshine coming through the Clouds" :-) at the end of that crazy heart breaking week that you had gone through....
Aw man. That story about the young guy that got shot messed me up. I can just imagine the terror he went through from your description of his face. And yeah the royal_s love horticulture. I'm British so we know all about them.
Great story time!! I just love your LA stories! I agree with you Rox that although it was dangerous and it seemed people were always getting shot I never really felt unsafe in LA. I grew up on the east side (off Slauson and Main) and also lived near imperial highway for a time. My family moved in the 90s because the violence in the late 80s/early 90s was horrible. I have a lot of good memories though.
I love when you talk about your Mom. You really glow when you reflect on those memories.
She sure does, you can see it all over her face
my 8 year old nephew was listening, and about 15 minutes later he goes "why didnt she use her cell phone?" I said..what?! He goes "the pregnant lady with Joe, why didnt she take a picture of the prince on her phone so her mom could believe her?" Poor kids, they dont know a life without technology was the most memorable!
Now thats funny... we had pagers and brick phones
Hilarious!
Too cute
too funny! 😄
I hollared at the chickens. ..you dun killed my friend George 😅😅😅
Po thang...
Prince Rogers Nelson.......I was hoping it was OUR Prince
When you started talking about that boy jumping fences, I immediately thought of the scene in Boyz In the Hood when Rickey got shot.
Luv ya Rox!
That video was the first time I watched Rox and I subscribed instantly
I loveeee your hearing your stories! You're a great storyteller too!
You start to glow when you talk about your children and parents. It is so sweet to watch. Your videos are always the best!
Funny enough, I grew up in the projects in New Orleans, I too, never felt like my life was in danger and shootings were normal. I think it had something to do with the fact that most of us in the projects were like family we looked out for each other, and unless you were involved with the "goings on" you really had nothing to worry about. I could listen to you all day it's like kicking it with your favorite big cousin never boring. Love a roxstar :)
I love your L.A. stories Rox! I grew up In Compton, but I graduated in 76,and spent all of the 80's overseas, where I have moved back to in 2006.You take me home, and I love it!!!!

What a pleasant story. Loved it. I really love how you light up when you speak about your mom.
I miss my mom so much. :(
I noticed that too I was cheesing so hard...u could really hear and see the love
+4itsrox I miss my mama too 😔😔😔😔
I was watching the Games Documentary Streets of Compton, and it made me think that i would love to hear about growing up in LA during that time from a female prospective. I loved this story, had me laughing at Joe and roosters

That's awesome, you all will have great stories to tell the grandbabies...
I know years ago, you started writing a book. Maybe you should pick it back up. I would love to read a "storytime" book. Love this
I have two books already finished, lol. They just aren't published. But I keep saying I'm going to do that....soon. :)
+4itsrox please do THAT :-)
+4itsrox a roxstar Kickstarter? Or go fund me to help get them published?
No, that's ok, thanks. Lol. I'm gonna get it done, it's a promise I've made to myself.
+4itsrox WHEN, not if it happens. I will buy both books. :-)

Who killed George? LMAO
*****
Did you hear the part when Miss Rox was talking about the roosters....
*****
Gotcha.....
I got it. I hollered on that part lol.

And my Mommy is the same way with sales too! Haha, that made me smile. I know she's smiling down knowing that you're keeping her legacy alive.
It's a sacrifice for sure, my kids miss out on a lot of family events and that makes us all very sad. But we wanted different for them. Not sure if it was worth it, but I just gotta believe that it was the right decision.
