- Georgia boys go to New Holland, South Dakota to pick corn - OLD SCHOOL! Case International tractor (Model 656) pulling a New Idea 2-row corn picker which is pulling a small grain wagon. One heck of an operation!

enjoyable video for me being old school farmer here. we had the same 656 tractor and 2 row new idea picker for our dairy farm in northern indiana. it will be nice to look back on this in your lives and be able to remember those days. i wish i had movies of our farm back in the 60's and 70's. so many good memories. thanks .
Love it. Dad had a 756 and a New Idea 2 row picker. Loved riding in the wagon dodging ears!
Steven Pfaff ahh yes. so many fond memories. hanging on to the bulkhead and running on the corn as dad dumped the wagon.
Looks like it would take a week to get half of that field done when you can only pick two rows at a time. Notice how long that row is when you look from the back of the wagon. Amazing that vast fields like this were picked using these machines decades ago. Now they are relegated to the small farms where the 13-row combines are overkill. A lot easier when there aren't any hills to shift the elevator and start throwing ears on the ground instead of the wagon. lol
I grew up down in Arkansas on the cotton farms, so I am a little ignorant to corn harvest. So anyways on the kind of harvest what do y'all do with the hole corn cobs afterwards.
We grind it, cob and all for cattle feed. Biggest advantage to ear corn, is you can store it a bit wetter in a crib, as air can still move between the ears and it'll continue to dry, vs having to put shelled corn through a dryer if it's too wet
Nice Video!!
@Kazinci Krisztian Not actually. The one you think is Zmaj 221. But this one is not, this is New Idea corn picker, like it's said in the video. But Zmaj 221 was indeed built based on this exact same model here, way back in 70's, or even 60's, I'm not sure, in Serbia(Yugoslavia). Zmaj 222, 223 and 224 models are similar, more or less, but have bunkers insteed of direct elevating corn to trailer proces like this. This machines were great, untill Zmaj colapsed, like everything else in this damned country.
Hi Dawgdailey, Great video. Really enjoyed it. So much I have liked it and subscribed to your channel. I particually like at 1:00 seeing that old iron run. Its nice to see your farm operation. I was as I was growing up raised on a mixed farm of arable, pigs and beef. Like yourself I like sharing skills and knowledge. i have had apprentices and young people work with me. To share some of my knowledge I have set up my own you tube channel. You should check out. Well many thanks for a great video. Keep the good work up. Look forward to future videos.

that was a dumb comment.you never drink alcohol when doing farm work of any kind.
Growing up... Circa 1960s 70s.... the old timers back then... "Why? What's wrong with a harmless beer???"
