Kawai's Smallest Pianos, Compared!

  • People enjoyed my review I did a few months ago about Kawai's tiny upright piano, so I bought two toy grand pianos for my own enjoyment and decided to make a video showcasing and comparing all three. Like professional instruments or even real acoustic pianos, they are all slightly different and have their benefits and drawbacks, with differences in tone, sustain, build quality, and playability. I hope you enjoy!

    Food for thought.
    I'd love to see a review of high-end digital pianos, such as a comparison of the new Yamaha CLP785 and a Kawaii CA99. Although the Kawaii calls itself a hybrid, it seems a marketing label more than a technical distinction. Both are relatively close in price range and they both represent the flagship models of instruments which strive to emulate a real grand acoustic piano. Thanks.

    Oh, that was what you talked about. I love these pianos. They are cute and sound nice. The upright was already nice to play but this grand sounds good. A little loud keyboard that’s for sure but who cares. It’s a toypiano with a great sound. Oh I like the room you are in. Studio B can be somewhat harder in sound but the toys sound good in it. Even your harpsichord will sound great in it. I didn’t hear you play it for a while. Maybe once play it together with the toypiano? Thank you for sharing and playing. Like it!

    Fascinating instruments, but not actually pianos. At least, if one defines "piano" to mean "short for 'piano-forte' or 'soft-loud', meaning any musical instrument which makes sound by using felt hammers to strike tensioned strings with variable force so as to be able to play either piano or forte". Which raises the question: What are the smallest _actual_ pianos made? Certainly there are uprights and baby grands; but surely there are even smaller pianos out there somewhere? Any real pianos approaching the size of these toy ones? How small do real pianos get?

    • @ThePianoforever
      @ThePianoforever  Před 2 lety

      True, these are not pianos - I disclosed this in my original video about the Kawai upright haha. The smallest true piano would likely also be made by Kawai, oddly enough, in the 1940's I believe. These tiny upright pianos, made for children, had true wire strings, felt hammers, felt dampers, a wooden action, a rudimentary cast iron harp, and even a vintage-style music rest. Other similar models were made by other companies too.
